attach ebook or download page?

I've been posting a ton of questions about list building, and I just decided to make a thread for any new questions I come up with.

Currently, I'm curious if I should attach my ebook with my autoresponse or should I send them to a download page? I seriously don't know what's best...

Thank you guys for any answers. I do apologize for all the questions.

Also... On the form, should I make them give there name or just email?

Several things spring to mind here.
It is probably best to make it the least complicated route for your customers.
How would you like your eBook delivered?
Are you not interested in your customers seeing another offer on route while collecting this eBook? After all, you could be missing an opportunity for additional conversions.

I've also heard that when you have an attachment, it can put it into junk mail.

I like the download page approach better. If it's a zip file you can have an iframe linking to it and some upsell on the page. That way the download will automatically start and you will have a chance to make another conversion.

The only thing that I was thinking was that I could easily add some up-sell in the email with the download.

In the majority of scenarios that I can think of, having a download page is far superior.

    * You can protect the download page.

    * You can easily change the URL link within the download page if you need to.

    * Attaching an e-book to an e-mail may trigger certain spam or server filters.

    * You can put other offers, updates, announcements, videos, audio, etc. on your download page.

I greatly appreciate the input guys! The only thing that keeps me coming back to it is that I feel like I'm being spun around link after link to get it when people do that to me. I signed up then I have to go to my email and accept it with that link, and then when I finally get the email that's supposed to have the ebook, it's just another link. I don't want people turned off by that.

I'm at such an impasse lol

Also, I'm scarred people may give there friends the actual URL of the download so they don't have to sign up. That would suck...

Maybe I should send the attachment in the first email (I have several parts to my ebook) but a download page on the other ones.

How about adjusting your confirmation successful url to be the download page?

That way they will be able to access their download immediately after opting in and they will still receive a confirmation link. Maybe you can tweak the confirmation message or something stating an advantage of confirming. You can even state something about that on your download page!

        Best of luck!!!

As said I would go with the download page. To me its easier and as you said it could end up in the spam box if you attach it. Also as mentioned you can redirect the person after confirmation right to the download page so they get their item right away and also send them an email with link just in case something goes wrong with the redirect.

That's pretty genius! The only thing I think about is that most people go there (like me) and immediately exit it, knowing that's all it is, but man that really was a good idea.

You are way over thinking this. You are worrying about the rare feeling of a very small minority of people. Most people don't care about having to click a link to go to a download page.

And if people are going to send the download link to their friends they could just as easily email the ebook to them. With a download page you can easily password protect it and change the password as often as you want. However if people want to email your ebook around they still can, there's no way around that. Luckily most people have better things to do with their time.

As most have said, go for a download page. Ok, let me base it into reality. Most of the product creation gurus here in Warrior Forum are ordering ebooks to me. ALL of them are using a download page. That's it.

    Download page with no doubts:
    1) You can protect your eBook from unwanted free downloads
    2) You can track your customers information using analytics code
    3) You can offer a great bonus as a surprise and make over-delivery

Hmmm...I read through all of the responses and I didn't see my personal answer given, so here's what I'm doing:

They sign up for my free ebook. I use aWeber with the double opt-in, so while they're waiting on they're confirmation, I send them to a thank you page with another of my services listed on it. After they confirm, I have aWeber immediately send the e-book out to them.

I can track it all through aWeber and it hasn't caused any problems yet for me.
