Please clarify this for me!

Hey guys- So, I've been told in order for my articles (which refer to my blog) to rank well on google, I should target keywords 20,000 or less exact match. Thats in quotes right? Okay. Did that, now my article ranks number one on google for that keyword....in quotes. Who the hell is going to search my term in quotes? Of course without quotes which is how people search it is like 43 million cause its a popular niche, which really isn't a niche. Can somebody please explain this concept to me? Also, how can I determine the page rank of a URL for a keyword in google? Any good free tools for that? Thanks a bunch!

There are a lot of good tools that show the PR of a webpage.

You can download Google's toolbar which will display the PR for every website that you visit. Once you've installed it you'll have to select the PR feature from the list of options.

The purpose of researching keywords with quotation marks is to determine the amount of "optimized competition." Your goal is to rank on the first page for the unquoted keywords. And the less "optimized competition" the easier that will be. Because even though there may be many websites ranked higher than you they're poorly optimized and only have some of the keywords randomly on their page and in backlinks.

Make sense? So you SEO efforts still contribute to ranking on the first page. That's the way I understand SEO anyway. Someone please correct me if anything's changed since I was an Optimization Geek.

You should post where you rank for the keywords then maybe someone can guestimate how difficult it will be to rank on the first page because while I have a decent grasp of SEO I'm not an expert on the subject.

This might help although there are a lot of sites to check PR
      Check Page Rank!

As far as checking to see where you rank on google for a keyword...in quotes. How many times have you been searching for info on something and put it in quotes because the results that you get are a mixture of junk and irrelevent content? I know that I do it all the time.

For a one word keyword obviously you don't need the quotes but for a long tail it will help you to see where you stand.

      Hope this helps!
