Cheapest, well converting traffic to build an email list in the IM niche?

I was wondering what you think is the cheapest, paid traffict that converts well to build an email list in the IM niche? I know that you can't use squeeze pages with google adwords unless there is a lot of other content and a single page with an optin box will surely be rejected.

I heard good things about purchasing solo ads and I've had pretty good conversions with microsoft adcenter although it's a bit pricey. I guess after you build your list to a decent level it'd be a good idea to do traffic exchanges with other list owners.

What do you guys think about the above strategies and do you know cheap sources of traffic that convert well? Other than google adwords and microsoft adcenter, what are the other PPC sources are with decent conversions? Facebook ads, POF?

    Had some success with FB ads, approval can be tough. POF can convert well depending on the niche.

      I'm referring to the internet marketing niche. I tried POF before with an insurance niche and had very poor conversions. I was making about 30% of the money I put into PPC. It was a CPA offer.
