Hi guys,

What's the best way to track a solo ad from CTR to conversion?

Is it Prosper 202 or some other tool?

no you dont need that tool

all i do is evert time i buy a new solo ad is:

    1. create a new web form in aweber and name it the new solo ad

    2. clone my squeeze page (i use optimize press so you just select "copy to a new draft") and name it something like ad 1

    3. upload your new solo ad web form aweber code to this new cloned squeeze page

    4. publish

    5. grab the url from your new cloned squeeze page

    6. put it into google url shortner

    7. grab the shortend link and give that to your new solo ad seller

i do this every time and its easy, it works and it tracks great

you also get some stats in your google url shortner account too so you can see which countries they send you traffic from

Paul I really think your idea is the best. But where do one see the google link shortner?

      Great advice Paul.

I'll definitely try this for my next solo ad.

I use Pretty Link to cloak my links instead.

      Thanks.

Thanks Paul.... But as a Solo Ad provider... how do you redirect your solos after that have hit the amount of clicks that the buyer has purchased?

How do you send them to your own offer after the limit of paid clicks is reached?

I, personally, would use LinkTrackr (LOOOOVE IT!). It will do all that and has a dashboard where you can manage multiple links in multiple campaigns.

If solo ads are something you plan to get serious about, I think LinkTrackr is a great investment. It's good for tracking traffic sources and (to a lesser extent) conversions from all those traffic sources.

A popular alternative to this that doesn't require the monthly fee is AdTracks.

Woooh - sorry Paul.. TOO much work! (I'm lazy, lazy is best!)

Grab yourself the free WP plug in - Pretty Link!

It's a link shortener + tracker combined and allows you to have multiple different links pointing to same squeeze page, you just make a new one for each solo ad / adswap. Takes like 1 minute to generate each new link

They have a paid Pro version if you like, but I never bothered to get it. the lite version does what I need :-)

      Hope that helps

        Hi Phil,

I've been using Pretty Link Lite to cloak my links but I haven't done much in terms of tracking.

Besides tracking the number of clicks, can it be used to track conversion rate?

        Thanks,

Thanks Paul for the steps. Does it mean we will go to the Google shortener account to find the number of clicks on the Solo Ads, then Aweber to find the number of Opt ins, and our affiliate account to find out the sales? You mentioned using the Google website Optimizer to split test in another post, so I'll be inserting these links into GWO to get results of the split test?

        Hey Phil,

I like the sound of this since it is free and does the job. Is there a panel where you can see all your tracking results in one glance? And this plugin works well for split testing?

Hey Jessica, LinkTrackr looks like a great tool but a bit costly for now with the monthly fees. I'm not very sure about AdTracks for now. With the looks of the screen shots, it doesn't seem to be the data I am going to track in the first glance.

I'll consider LinkTrackr when things are up and running. Many thanks for the suggestion.

If I'm paying for lots of clicks, I like to create two squeeze pages for split testing - sending half the clicks to each.
Long term this can easily make the difference between getting 30% or 60% opt-ins.

Comparing results from different campaigns never seems to work very well because traffic quality can vary so much
Hi seafrontsteve, you are right about the importance of split testing.
Do you use Paul's technique for tracking your split testing as you mentioned?

    hey phil

yeah there maybe plugins and stuff or other tracking tools which you can use and thats cool

but i use the above method every time and i can set it up in about 3 mins tops

but as you probably know theres "plenty of ways to skin a cat so to speak"

as long as all data is being tracked then thats the main thing :-)

also the other reason why i do it this way is so that all data appears in my aweber so i can just look down the list at a glance and see what every solo ad has converted at

some solo sellers do redirect there links after they have sent you your click package but they do always over deliver

this is something solo sellers set up within there tracking accounts

at least this is what i have found

every single solo ad i have ever bought i have always received at least 10% extra as a bare minimum

Yes Pauls method is best for a small to moderate mailing and pretty close to what I use, but for the bigger mailings I always use tracking202 or another one to track. On the larger mailings I want solid stats to keep track of every little thing. Laxed on the smaller mailings though say under 350.

Am I wrong for this or should I stick to one way all the time?

if this works well for you hustlinsmoke then just keep doing it

the way which i laid out above is what i do with all of my solo ads no matter how big or small

i find that using aweber to track impressions on the squeeze page is plenty good enough to see how many clicks we were sent

and not only that, if you don`t delete your campaign stats in aweber then if you happen to use the same solo ad again you can then see how much traffic is unique

ie: unique total impressions / total impressions

i fine everything works fine this way and best of all it`s nice and simple :-)

Some good tips to track conversions for free you got.

Other paid versions include scripts like Demon tracking. In the past I have used Xtreme Conversions and Adtrackz but there seems to be no support for these now as I have attempted to get current version downloads with no joy.

If you're using Google Analytics, use their URL builder tool to create custom tracking urls for your campaigns:
    URL Builder - Analytics Help
If you've set up conversion goals in GA, you'll be able to see the exact conversion ratio from that campaign.

This is by far the easiest method I've come across. (and it's FREE)
