If I verify my Paypal Personal account, will my account be auto upgraded to a Premier account?

Hey Guys,

I'm intending to withdraw some money from my PayPal Personal account into my bank account.

The problem is that Personal accounts have limit as to how much one can withdraw, and I'm intending to withdraw an amount that exceeds that limit.

So, in order for the limit to be raised, PayPal requires that I verify my Personal Account by linking it to a credit card.

That's fine with me, but I'm concerned if whether linking my Personal Account to a credit card would automatically upgrade my account to a Premier one?

I'd want to maintain that Personal Account solely to receive money as there's no transaction fee involved, unlike the Premier Account which I use primarily to buy stuff.

So, back to my question, does anyone know whether verifying my Personal Account would auto upgrade it to a Premier Account?

Kindly advise.

Thanks,

Johnson

PS: Checked PayPal Help, didn't find the answer I want.

  • Johnson, I think when you verify it, it goes to premier automatically. I think mine did anyway.
  • If I remember correctly I think it does...
If you link your personal account to a credit card it probably would automatically be upgraded to a Premier account. I believe it does.

Then on the other hand couldn't you possibly spread your large withdrawal over a couple of days by withdrawing small, equivalent amounts on your personal account?

    I hope this helps!
  • No it would not upgrade to a premier account unless you requested for it. I have two account both verified but one of the account is still personal account as I am lazy to click to upgrade to a premier account.

Simply verifying a Personal Account should not convert it to Premium, but . . . .

Judging by all the answers here - why not just ask Paypal?? Much better "from the horse's mouth!"

    • Well, I directly checked with the horse yesterday and got the most idiotic reply:

Johnson, did you get any reply from them?

Paypal are notorious for responding to emails replies using "bog-standard" answers - they very rarely make sense!

Log into your Paypal Account - use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the home screen , then click on "Speak To Us" on the resulting screen.

You are given a phone number ("local" to you) together with a Secure Web Pin Number valid for one hour.

Call them and ASK your question.

Their reply to me just ten minutes ago, using this system, was "If you wish to upgrade your Personal Account - you may, however, simply verifying a Personal Account DOES NOT automatically upgrade to any other type of Account. In fact the guy said "why should it?"

    Hope that may help.

    • Wait till you try eBay. They are worse than PAYPAL in replying to your enquiry.
