I would like to know your habits while working..

for example:

1) do you listen to music, and if yes, what kind of music? (songs)

2) where do you like to work?

3) when do you like to work?

4) how do you stay focussed while working? (not getting distracted)

I work from my home office. I have to have it silent. Music or other things in the background are to distracting to me.

As long as it's quiet, I don't really have to worry about getting distracted. But I will set goals for myself so that I can stay focused on the task at hand. When something else pops into my head I write it down on a notepad so i won't forget it and that helps free my mind up to stay focused on what I'm doing at the moment.

    Hi
I work in my home office, normally have the radio on talksport mainly, I make a to do list everynight for the following day and prioritise each task, I also see what task I can get someone else to do if there are any. This helps me as the next day i can tick off what has been done and it motivates me to complete the list. I also make sure that the hardest task on the list gets done first, which makes all the other tasks easier. A good book to read for this is 'Eat that Frog'

In my day job before I got organised I found myself busy allday but had actually done very little, so for me a list is essential. I also put together a 'How I spend my time' spreadsheet each row resented 15mins of the working day i would input what i had done, colour coded what i had done if you do this for a few weeks you will see pattens of when you can make time for tasks, or when there is dead time.

    Hi
I always work at my work room in my home. I usually work at 08.00 - 11.30 pm, because in morning until noon I must do my job outdoor. I also take some courses with 4 my friends, so it must do outdoor.

I usually listen music, I like to listen all around genre of music such as pop, jazz, rock, r n b, etc. Music helps me to get focused on working, it also makes myself relax. I can work for long time if I listen music.

You can try my tips, they are very useful in helping stay focused..

Sometimes. I almost always have the TV going in the background.

    2) where do you like to work?
    I have a home office.

    3) when do you like to work?
I'm a night owl. Once I get rid of my day job (hopefully within the next 3-6 months), I'll be working from noon until the wee hours of the morning. For now, I do it from 6-midnight or so.

    4) how do you stay focussed while working? (not getting distracted)
I don't take on projects that don't interest me. If a project doesn't seem like it is going to be too interesting for my tastes, then I focus on the price tag and all thoughts instantly become focused.

I work in three modes: creative mode, heads-down, and flow-state.

Creative mode is running all the time, no matter what I'm doing. Notes are generated, plans are made, I jot things on my whiteboard, rehearse potential scripts for upcoming videos, etc.

This is what's going on when I spend twelve hours playing Minecraft or updating Facebook; I write down various little notes and come up with acronyms that don't have meanings yet - based on the idea that it will be memorable, so it will actually... you know, work for people.

Because you can't do that in two hours. When successful people say "I wrote this in two hours," what they really mean is that they spent weeks or months figuring out what they wanted to write, then sat down and wrote it.

Of course, those people have now told everyone to write reports in two hours, so the non-successful people say "I wrote this in two hours" meaning they just vomited out whatever random garbage they happened to know and slapped a price tag on it.

That two hours is heads-down mode. You can't really go heads-down for more than two hours unless you achieve flow-state... which can't be predicted or planned, but it's when you sit down and the work just seems to do itself, so you suddenly look up at the clock and realise it's been fourteen hours and you haven't eaten or slept or gone to the bathroom.

Those are magical moments, for the brief time before your body starts screaming "I'M TIRED AND HUNGRY AND I HAVE TO PEE." But if you're too stressed, e.g. you're going heads-down for more than two hours at a shot and more than twice per day, flow-state can't happen.

Most of the people going "so if you made $500 in an hour you could make $4,000 a day which is $20,000 a week and over a million dollars a year!" are basically stupid and don't understand that the money gets made in heads-down and flow-state, but neither of those happens without enough time in creative mode.

That's the real difference between me and a lot of my friends, who shake their heads about how much potential I have. If you go around blowing your wad on twenty-page reports all the time and farting out WSOs like a popcorn machine, you're just plain never going to do eight-figure launches. And most of them say "who cares, I make multiple six figures, I'm doing fine."

And that's as may be. But for some people, "fine" isn't good enough. If you want to reach those upper echelons of success, you can't run around doing that crap. When your fellow operatic vocalists say "screw this, I can make better money with my own crappy pop music career," you have to stick to your training if you ever want to hit the F6 in Queen of the Night.

You are never going to do that if you go out on tour and do synchronised dancing like Lady Gaga and Britney Spears, because it's a buttload of work, and you're not going to have hours every day to work on your range. If your voice is tired, and you have a show tonight, you do your show and vocal damage be damned. "The show must go on."

Basically, everything that isn't working toward that F6 is in the way. And if you're ever going to get there, you need to get that **** out of the way.

    1) Yes, I feel like it is essential that I listen to music. I only listen to one song while working "Dollar and a Dream III" by J Cole.
    2) The Library on the quiet floor. It is so peaceful and serene.
    3) Im a work-a-holic, so I work just about all day from 9-6 with a few breaks in between.
    4) It is hard for me to get distracted because I have goals that I set, and those are what fuel me, so I can just keep going and going and going without losing my train of thought( sometimes I feel like a machine).

    1) Sometimes and if so relaxing type of music like ocean sounds, nature sounds, etc. Sometimes hits of the 80s.

    2) In my office, but also at cafes outside my house.

    3) From 8AM to 12PM. I like to schedule the tasks I need to get done for certain hours of the day.

    4) I simply tell myself that I need to get this done now within the next 90 minutes. (or how long it takes me)

One of the key skills you should obtain in business is the ability to work fast when your success depends on it.

There should really be no time for low end tasks or unnecessary tasks, if you're working on something mature that needs your fullest attention.

Form great habits, and tell your self that the completion of this project is a MUST. If a project or task takes 45 - 90 minutes to reach its accomplishment, I rarely stand up during the 45 - 90 minutes.

You need to learn how to focus, and don't get distracted.

    So get started..

1.) I listen to either rock or rap music to keep me pumped up.

2.) I work in my office, home office, and sometimes a cafe. I can't work in one place everyday or I get bored quick. This is why I became a entrepreneur. I wanted freedom ; )

3.) I usually work 10-12 hours a day. I could work less, but it's a choice. I start work around 11am after I go to the gym.

4.) I stay focused by taking breaks when I get tired or start losing motivation. I don't do any checking of Facebook or anything like that during working hours.

At the start of each day I write down a checklist of things to get done. Until they get completed there isn't time for screwing around.

What motivates me? Knowing that the harder I work the more money I make.

I find that listening to music helps a lot when I am writing, but as a supplementary question can I ask how online workers overcome internet distractions?

By that I mean if you are researching a topic and come upon a web page with a link to something you are curious about, even though it will be far removed from the topic being researched.

How do you avoid falling behind with your working schedule?

Sometimes noise in the background such as from a TV or music helps me get started. However, if I want to be as productive as possible I usually need to shut off the noise.

I have an uncanny ability to just get on a computer and work.
I wake up, come downstairs, fire up the coffee and get to it..
I bounce between my laptop and desktop. Usually I'll throw on some
music or tv in the afternoon. Making lists of stuff that needs to be done helps.

I can work either in silence or with noise - any noise- around. Sometimes that's music.

What I do is creative work so I have tuned into my rituals. Rituals are the little things you do just before sitting down to work that cue your mind to get ready to work. Everyone has them, but most people don't ever notice them. For me it's making coffee and putting on a white dress shirt. My head doesn't like to go into gear until I get my white dress shirt on - no matter what else I am or am not wearing. I even wear my white dress shirts in the gem hunting fields - but that's more because they are really practical out there than because I need to be creative. A LOT of what I do online results from stuff I think of out there where I'm immersed in nature and my mind is just wandering as it pleases.

I also work in bursts, but I haven't really ever thought about labeling the different types of bursts as CD has done.

Usually a day starts out and ends checking email, FB, WF and just cruising around doing miscellaneous stuff. The meat of what I do is usually in late afternoon and early evening. I take a lot of breaks and go outside with the dog during a day at the computer - usually with one main chunk of time away to actually get at least a mile or two of a hike in. Minds also don't flow when they don't get enough exercise to move the toxins out and the oxygen in - and unwind a tad.

To be fair, it's not just me. It's a Microsoft thing, and not uncommon elsewhere in the tech industry.

  • 1) Do you listen to music, and if yes, what kind of music?
    • Yes! What kind? That vary a lot, I have a very weird taste in music, because I listen to so many genres. :-)

    2) Where do you like to work?
    • At home.

    3) When do you like to work?
    • As I'm not fulltime Internet Marketer, I try to work on my IM business when I have time, so I can't really have any preferences.

    4) How do you stay focussed while working? (not getting distracted)
    • Exercising have worked very well for me!

    1. Do you listen to music, and if yes, what kind of music?
    • I listen to music sporadically. I alternate between listening to music - House and instrumental music, classical, or groups like Enigma - with the TV on in the background.
    • Sometimes when I'm really stressed I turn everything off and work in total silence.
    2. Where do you like to work?
    • I work everywhere and anywhere. Mondays, Fridays and weekends I work at one of my home offices. I have an office upstairs in a closed room with a door I can lock. During the day when I am home alone I work downstairs on a small desk in the family room. When the weather's nice I might work outside on the patio.
    • Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursdays I work at my business office outside my home where I can have client meetings, if necessary.
    • The rest of the time when I'm not in my office I'm on my iPad anywhere I happen to be - Starbucks, at various restaurants, etc. Only time I don't use my iPad is when I'm driving or sleeping. :-)
    3. When do you like to work?

I like to work 7 days a week, 18 hours a day. I'm a super Type A++ I love my work. It's like playing all day long.

    4. How do you stay focused while working? (not getting distracted)
    • Close and lock my office door.
    • Only check emails once an hour.
    • Stay off SM and Warrior (hard to do sometimes)
    • Wear ear buds or headphones if there's other distracting noise
    • Put my phone on silent to avoid distraction from texts or calls coming in.
    • Give myself daily ToDo lists so I stay focused on the tasks at hand

I work on my PC in my room. I used to listen to music in past, but now I find it a little distracting so it all depends on my mood. Sometimes I would listen to it and other times I won't. I really like to work where there are also other like minded people, seriously! It does not distracts me and actually makes me more creative. I basically love to collaborate with others and have others collaborate with me as well. I like to work, 24 hours a day. Seriously. I always keep in mind that all this hard work is gonna payback some day, and its gonna payback really well. Now staying focused is something that I need to learn. It just happens naturally that many times during work I will loose focus, and start thinking about other things and I really need to stop doing this. This is turning out to be a big problem for me now.

I saw a video the other day that had a statistic regarding sitting down all day. It said there are serious health consequences for sitting down for too many hours at a time.

They suggested getting a stand up table and working only in segments of 45min to an hour at a time, then taking a break.

Has anybody tried this? I am thinking about changing things up in my home office, I don't want to cut my life short because I sit down all day long.

*I do not listen to music while working.
*I work in 33.33 minute intervals.
*I have a computer that does not get on the internet
*My research material is all psychical books. I have about 100 books in my office that I can read and scourge for research material.
*I also have 5 medium size boxes in there that I call my swipe file boxes.
*I stay focused by writing out my daily goals on a piece of paper and pin that to my wall. Not a virtual wall.
*I like to start work about 6AM and stop at 10AM
