I would pay them off with the offer right away, (some give it up even without a confirmed opt-in), then cultivate the list with a few useful information messages for each promotional email.

I think this is a bad idea because it will likely increase your bounce rate dramatically. Most people will leave once they have clicked on the second page and they realize they are going to get another pitch. One Great pitch is all you need.

I agree that you should definitely make the ebook available to the subscribers as quickly as possible. Offers can come later, after you have developed a relationship with the list that you have created with your optin.

If you absolutely must show offers right off the bat, then I would do so only after you have informed the subscriber that their ebook is on the way and to check their inbox. 'And while they are waiting, they may be interested in "X" (your offer). I would definitely not force them to sit through an offer as a requirement for getting to the ebook.

You will always have unsubscribes, the question is - how high is the ratio of unsubscribes? The best thing to do would be to test giving away the free ebook together versus giving it away in 3 parts. Let the numbers do the talking
