Proof that Dupe Content / RSS Penalty is a MYTH

I made WPTrends - HOT Breaking News not that long ago, it might have been 5 or 6 weeks.

Now type "site:WPTrends.com" in google and it has almost 4000 indexed pages. And this all with simple RSS feeds, news and stuff like that.

On this site i also used some "SEO tricks", but i wont go into details what i did

    COOL

Maybe it's time to kick CC into overdrive?

    Thanks,

    Nice George.

I think it's pretty clear by now that duplicate content only applies when you over use the exact same content WITHIN the same site.

Using the exact same content from external sites, RSS feeds etc... is just syndication, it will NOT cause duplicate content.

Also, using third party content is perfectly legit as long as you point back to the original source.

By the way, I see your site is pretty much automated, nice work. It has the potential to grow into a titan.

Google has itself debunked the idea that websites get 'penalized' for duplicate content:

Google Debunks The Duplicate Content Penalty Myth (Part 1)

However, there are at least two other issues to keep in mind. Firstly, Google has said that it won't (if it can help it) index content that is duplicated on one website. Also, Google has said it DOES penalize those who blatantly scrape content from other websites:

well they should penalize themselves then, because all what google does is present other people's content...

    Where is the proof?

    When I "site:wptrends.com" I get 3,2xx pages.

That "proof" shows they already booted 7xx pages today.

Do you really think Google is going to tell everything & not mislead?

I'm sure certain sites can have dupe content and be ok but sites w/ a certain percent, like yours w/ 100%, not so lucky.

This is a subject that will continue to go on and on... If people would focus more on their business rather than trying to prove or disprove that dup content exist then these people might actually make some sales..

There is not one person that will ever fully understand how google functions and google will never fully release how they actually function. Testing is something all business should do but those test results will show different from one person to another person.

I have a site that has the same content posted more than once but yet I have a listing on the front page of google listed #5 out of 309,000,000 for a very popular key-phrase. How do I know this is a popular key-phrase ? Simple it shows many times over in my AWSTATS and googles own keyword tool list it with a decent amount of activity.

I did nothing special to get a listing #5 out of 300 million, yes I have seo and yes I did target that key-phrase for a reason. This very site though has the same exact content posted more than once on the same domain.

It goes up when you site ads content and down when its checked.

      A better question:

well i made the site originally as "demonstration site" for one of my WSOs, so the main purpose was selling that particular WSO, and i sold a few, yes

I not claiming to be a big adsense earner (adsense was always only change for me)..but i started many blogs of that kind, some i monetize w/ adsense, some with clickbank etc...so the earnings overall are increasing.

Yes, back to 2500 now it seems. Do you ever use any social bookmarking or rss feed submissions with these sites?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[568305].message }}

i let that work do by the blogs. Initially, it can happen i use RSSbot to submit the feeds.... and occasionally a digg or propeller by hand.

But since the blog(s) ping automatically with each new content i dont see a point, thats the magic since everything is automated.

If i have a site which i really want to promote then i hire the nice guy from the WSO section who does social bookmarking.

Since each blog automatically pings with each new content...this means google bot comes and indexes, without any further efforts needed on my side.
