Best way to create and promote new book product?

Hey Warriors,

I'm in the process of publishing an eBook with a good friend of mine, for launch sometime in June. The book, which is describe on my site here, is an funny, entertainment book similar to the Tucker Max style.

The book is around 200 pages of drunken stories, hilarious events, etc. My friend is the author and I'm going to be responsible for marketing and selling the book, using my website as a platform to let the world know about it.

We've decided to launch the book in eBook formatting due to the much smaller investment than finding a publisher and building physical book copies. However, I still need to have someone format the book for me, as it would take me an inordinate amount of time to do so. I've been weighing my options, and it would seem that something like eLance might be my best shot.

My price range is around $200 for the book to be formatted and most US based designers want thousands. What are your suggestions to have the book formatted?

Also how do you think I should market and promote it? I was thinking of contacting all my friends and collegues in the men's entertainment niche, offering them a free copy of the book and affiliate status if they like the book. Also, I was thinking about doing something similar to Living Social, where if an ordinary person likes it and shares it with two other people who buy, their copy will then be free. How's that sound?

Thanks for reading!
Rob

  • Hi Rob

I'm sure you will get some fantastic ideas , but how about as a starter for 10, getting a squeeze page set up offering the first chapter for free. Get those interested on a list and promote over a period of time using follow up mails.

Get the first chapter completed soon, and get it out prior to the launch of the book and then you have a decent amount of potential customers all set up and ready for the launch.

I hope this helps and you have a great launch.

    All the very best
    Andy

Get video interviewed and syndicate the interview.

Transcribe the video and post it with the video on your site to draw in organic search traffic.

Then write multiple articles about the interview, syndicate them to forums, social networks and direct the traffic to the interview. This becomes your squeeze page.

The interview process will draw in your audience, will show that you are a real person, and without directly selling to your target, (through interview marketing), will build trust and show that you are the subject matter expert you claim to be.

If your interview is compelling enough, touches enough viewer needs, you will convert and people will order your e-book.

We interview authors from McGraw Hill this way.
