Freelancing with dignity?

Ive been trying to get some work lately but it seems there is nothing much i can do than whore my self for a quick buck on fiverr.

i tried 99 designs and won few contests but i just feel that most of my time is going to waste, i believe i can increase my ratio of success but it's so unclear, it's like going to work blindfolded.

i am on odesk, i didn't like the others like freelancer and elance.
they are an issue as well, you need to have so many reviews to get a good gig.
don't get me wrong i am totally willing to work free at the start of my journy for a good testimonial!

at the moment i am on fiverr and doing quite well i guess but i find my self lost, i can't complain much though because i only started last week.
i am working on marketing my self at the moment, which is a website.
i am starting to think if i should go down the wordpress lane and start designing themes and selling them, maybe make a membership website.

any suggestions? any other websites i could try?

and yea im so bored i can't even begin explaining, my frist week being a notebook potato and as you can see i made graphics for this post out of boredom.

LOL I love your post - the graphics made me smile.

How about trying to team up with one of the writers around here and create a product?

Spring for a Warrior For Hire ad?

Put together a PLR graphics pack?

Well anyway how about offering your services here on WF? And then position yourself as something unique (But before you do this make sure you know who your target audience is - high/low price etc.). I'm sure if you work hard, you will start seeing some results and as the testimonials roll in, it will get easier to get clients.
yea i was thinking of offering my service here once i finish my website and get all my portfolio there , i would need testimonials though so i am planing on offering some free work so i can start rolling.

      thanks for your support!

Ryan, do you write also? I was thinking that if you do, you could offer a combo service like content with corresponding graphics.

If not, then as Shay suggested, hook up with a writer, but offer the combo pack as a service.

        I do love your creativity.

So you do have a plan there. Execute it and only then look else where. Its easy to get distracted by other oppotunities and not finish what you have started -thats teh nature of IM All the best.

Certainly can't hurt, and you only need 5 fiverr orders done to afford it.

Can't comment, never done PLR; but Shay knows what's what on the topic.

    Love the graphics as well.

Another method you may want to consider is selling some of your work as original clip art or stock photos on Shutterstock.com or iStockPhoto.com.

From your post you appear to be creative op. You have to try really really hard to make some name as a freelancer.

Try making a very impressive personal site / portfolio so you can appear solid as a freelancer to any possible client for starters.

I agree with the others here. After I read your post, I knew you had talent.

If you want to write, I've had success finding clients on LinkedIn. I've also had success by simply contacting owners of websites and SEO companies, offering my services.

If you put the energy into one - two at the most - business ideas, you will succeed.

I'll bookmark this thread and contact you when I need graphics. I wish you the best.

    • Not to rain on anyone's Easter parade, but are threads like this really fair to the people who pay to be listed in the Warriors for Hire section?

With all due respect fluffy, he's not asking to be hired here, he was asking for help on other methods to make money than those he's tried already, albeit in a creative manner with his graphics.

It isn't his fault that some people liked his work and said they would pm him.

And he also said he would check into the Warriors for hire section.

I've seen other people asking for help on ways to make money in writing and other warriors like their writing style and say they'll send that writer a pm.

How is this any different? Just because he got creative and used graphics with his post?

Seems to be the trend - start a thread (or multiple threads) asking for "help" while not-so-subtly promoting one's services. I'm seeing more of them every day, and it's getting ridiculous.

Can you format books for Kindle and do the cover? I think there's a pretty good market for that right now.

No one is accusing you of anything.

You may not be aware of it, but there have been quite a few threads very similar to yours lately. Invariably someone (or multiple someones) ends up offering work to the OP. Heck, I've even been guilty of that myself.

It occurs to me that getting work through a "free" thread is kind of a slap at the warriors who pay to be listed. I'm willing to hear other opinions.

I loved the graphics in your post! My favorite post of the day actually. I would definitely put up an ad on this forum - it only costs $20 and I bet you will get some work. Use your skills in your ad like I see in this ad and it will pull people in. Good luck - work will come.

I am a bit worried about your being bored.

If you stay at it, you will do fine. Your creative graphics will keep people returning. If you are having success at Fiverr, keep paying the bills. But, by all means branch out. A talent and imagination like yours could go viral.
