Motivation in Internet Marketing

Although Internet Marketing can be very rewarding it can also be very tedious and demanding at times. What strategies/techniques do you use to stay motivated to maintain your success?

I think back on my old jobs to keep myself motivated. The memory of my old boss, complaining customers, and loser coworkers keeps me going pretty easily.

I couldn't agree more with you on this one. My old job drove me to find different opportunities online. I am almost grateful I had such a bad job to begin with because that is a big reason why I am where I am at today!

I believe the single greatest obstacle to success in Internet marketing today is directly related to producing innovative and viable products, there are so many junk products out there that a lot of people tend to feel defensive about any offer they receive.

You have Hype sales letters that infer, that a particular thing is true when the truth is something very different, you have so called, Gurus that sell products they know will not work without a substantial investment in the business, yet they sell it anyway and never reveal that in order to make the kinds of money they advertise that you also have to spend a lot of money to get that kind of return.

Its a sad thing that has created a situation where most people no longer believe that you can make it in marketing, they want to believe and so they keep buying but deep down inside they have been hyped, sold, and taken advantage of so many times that they find it very hard to keep up the effort.

The only real way to overcome this issue is to develop a product that does more than what your competitors product can do, and then take yet another step.

A lot of these problems are a result of junk products that tell everyone to go out and create junk products which tell people to go out and create yet more junk products.

See the pattern there, I hate junk products and so does just about everyone else.

    Stop selling junk, LOL

It's because I know what Tim Franklin has just described is so real all around my IM ears that it gives me hope that anyone could potentially make a success on emarketing purely by not doing any of those things I detest about IM.

Unfortunately though Tim has made another good point in that all this hyped up styled marketing (that has zero originality in any of it) will just breed an amassed cynical opinion of IM full-stop.

What keeps me locked in is all the research & energy I have put into this. I am not going to fail & I will defeat any obstacle (even those defeatist niggling devils in my head lol)...

I am however, really boiling over about this new EU law but it is only that that is temporarily more effective than the niggling devils.

What would work out well I think (for anyone) & I think that would be to team up with someone else or others (plural) to tackle IM in numbers as opposed to going it alone. Just waiting for some seed to grow first.

Well said! This bears repeating again, and again, and again.

Making your first $1 online is pretty motivating. If you can make $1 you can make $100. If you can make $100 you can make $1000 and so on. It's about the journey though and it IS work. Once you face the fact that, short of winning the lotto, there is no such thing as success without effort, you can start dealing with the day to day tasks with realistic expectations. Though I do find dreaming of the future to be motivating... or fear of what could happen if you don't work your butt off online. Whichever you prefer : )

I just wrote some tips below

"You have everything you need." ~ by Emerson

It is important to know that you can start with literally nothing and still amass massive success. In the past, many successful business owners have found great success not because they have a lot to work with at first, but it is because they know they already have everything they need in order to succeed, and they proceed to work out their dreams one step at a time. Perhaps your greatest power is your will to succeed, and your biggest enemy would be your own fear.

"A real decision is measured by the fact that you've taken a new action. If there's no action, you haven't truly decided." ~ by Tony Robbins

This quote could not speak truth any louder. Nothing speaks louder than your actions, and you can sit there all day long thinking to yourself that you have decided to make things happen, but at the end of the day nothing gets accomplished unless you take lots of focused actions.

Being an internet marketer, it is easy to get yourself distracted from your plans and to-do list because of emails and promotions and other junk that clouds or confuses us every single day. Know that you will not make a single cent while learning what others are doing until you implement what you already know and turn it into a profitable business where you are making real money.

If you find yourself lacking the motivation to take actions, then you probably have not really decided on what you really want or you are in a state of confusion. Thus, look deeper within yourself and ask yourself if you really want it and if you are willing to take actions on what you dream of. That's when the magic really happens. Otherwise get or regain clarity on your intentions.

"In this business you can't have a destination, an arrival point. Otherwise your competitors will overtake you, or you become complacent." ~ by Giorgio Armani

Yeah I totally agree, internet marketing can be very demanding at times. We need to constantly remind ourselves on the rewards that lies ahead <-- I think that's something that can keeps us motivated all the time in whatever we do (even when times are tough).

I should have quitted Internet Marketing 2 years ago for NOT making any money but I hang on because I kept visualizing the possibilities - I kept reminding myself of all the "beautiful" stuffs like: I no longer have to work in a 9 - 5, I gonna have flexible working hours, I'm able to work from home, I'm gonna have a lot more freedom etc.

So, what keeps me motivated? I should say they are my dreams and goals.

Very coincidentally, I have written a post on dreams and goals 2 days back which I think will blend in perfectly. The Importance of Setting Goals & Dreams - How They Can Transform Your Life | Life Motivation Success (Don't worry, I have nothing to sell you, it's just pure information)

Well, I'm not successful yet, but I got some improvement everyday.

The things which motivate me to move on:
    1) I'm in self-improvement niche, free self-motivation XD
    2) I'm into a niche I passionate about
    3) I have a partner, together we share experience, skills and knowledge, and sometimes we challenge each other ( this makes it fun)
    4) Able to see a little improvement every single day knowing that one day I'll reach my goal.

I have this file (excel file) where i wrote down why am I doing internet marketing, the goal that I wanted to achieve. Then there s also another tab that I had an analysis of my own internet marketing work. I will always analyze what had I not done properly. After doing so, I will improve from it. And I will write down my improvement and the result. Whenever I get demotivated, I will open the file and look at my result, then look at the goal. With this, it shows how far am I from my goal and every improvements that I had recorded down keep me motivated and continue to work for it to achieve my goal.

Whenever I need a little motivation, I hop over and look at my student loan accounts. I owe a lot of money, and I hate being in debt! I also look at real estate in my area, because my dream is to own a home and that will only be possible in the near future if I continue to work hard at what I am doing.

Really good point here. Certain aspects in life make you work that much harder to succeed (student loan debt, pay off a mortgage, pay off a car, supporting your family). It is great when you finally see all of your hard work pay off and the little steps you take every day are eventually worth every bit of energy you put into it when you start seeing results. With so many horror stories about peoples jobs and how miserable they are IM seems to have always been the right fit for me and am grateful to make money from home!

I have found that sales always come when I least expect it and they come from the last thing I would have expected. The only way to do this game is to have a system where you do a little at a time consistently. In my day job I do certain tasks. At the end of each task I go over to my IM business and get two links our there and then go back to my day job and keep repeating this. it's the little things consistently that count. This is the very best quote about anything in life that you truly want to make happen:

"Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race. If you have a hard time coming up with your own motivation you can find an "accountability partner". Or you can join a group where you talk about your goals and the group will help to push (nag) you to finish your projects.

As far as the persistence quote, I don't believe that persistence by itself works. You have to be persisting at the right things in order to accomplish something.

You will never get to the moon if you don't have a ship and the ship won't fly if it doesn't have fuel...

It takes knowledge, ability, and then persistence.

I totally agree. Motivation is the key to success. There are several factors involved in success, and one of the keys are motivation. It's actually a coincidence that I'm writing an ebook at the moment about how to succeed in Internet Marketing as I've been through loads of books already, and haven't found any ones that really tell me what I have found to be true. So I figured that I'll do it myself!

If you want that generic kind of motivation, try reddit, there is a subreddit at reddit com / r / motivation . It can be cheesy, but it can also be just what you need at times...

I try not to do too much at one time. If I take each task and complete it fully, I'm much more motivated to move on to something else. When I take on more than one tasks, I often get overwhelmed and quit.

I also take breaks from it from time to time. It does a body good to let go, and then come back with a renewed drive to succeed.

I make a promise each evening. It is a commitment to myself.

When I started that, I began to accomplish so much more. I make my promise in the evening....when I am most motivated....and the next day seems far away. I have to work to keep my promises realistic.

I do 3 things to stay motivated.

    1. Stop watching to much TV. My time for watching TV in now from 30min - 1hr
    2. Listening to Audios as a downtime exercise. (when working out, before sleeping, and so on)
    3. Write my goal down on a piece of paper each day.

I realize I get closer to my goals when I implemented this.

"If you can dream it you can do it"
"Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower."

Try recording your progress and setting milestones and award yourself . for example, you can take a day off and have fun for every $3K you make . or you can celebrate every $50K you make with your friends/family

A few motivational thoughts from me
    1) create a list of your planned activities for each day
    2) do as many as possible
    3) surround yourself with other motivated people
    4) enjoy yourself and dont get swamped or bogged down
    5) step away from computer every hour or so

I understand that we can earn $$$ from IM. Like jobs and many other business opportunities, the money is just a TOOL to greater things.. for mi.. to be able to give a better lifestyle to my family and myself..

eventually is still how bad do you want to succeed.

It's true. You need rules to succeed. Nobody got anywhere without some kind of discipline, but if you make it into a fun kind of game, it becomes second nature. Someone once said that you do what you like, not you like what you do. Get it into a habit, and you'll enjoy it.

Yea....I find I make the most money doing projects online that I am passionate about....The work doesn't feel like "work" it is relaxing and the bets part is I get paid...So lately that has been my motivation....And I always keep the word "Persevere" in the back of my head...When I first started I got VERY discouraged now it is a different story...

Well thankfully because my free royalty free music site revolves around my passion, motivation just wells up and I have to get it out.

So to keep motivated, I'd say work on the projects that genuinely excite you - not those that you do just because you think they will make money.

Then no matter how much money you make, you will be truly engaged and happy about what you are doing every day and that is something money can not buy.

From the outside in people might think I am "disciplined" because I have composed and released over 100 tracks to the public in the past 4 years.

But the reality is that when there is nothing else you would rather be doing than "work" then its not discipline, it's excitement and a joy : )

I agree here...It's great when you find something that your passionate about that makes you money because it does not feel like work...In fact sometimes I have to force myself to gt off the computer when I start a project I am obsessed with...This is truly the best way to stay motivated and make money on the internet period.
