Just a quick idea to make some cash (Amazon affiliates)

Find a popular selling item on craigslist (iPhone, droid, samsung galaxy) something everybody wants/has.

Find it on Amazon! (all prices/items will be hypothetical)

1. Product A is for sale on amazon for $280

2. Post on craigslist in a big city saying you're selling for $320, leave a DEDICATED email address and say you only have ONE and the first person to email you gets it (urgency, it works, trust me, especially when it's just lead generation)

3. You will get flooded with people wanting to buy it (if its a big hit item), respond to these people saying you already sold it, and if theres anything you can do to help just ask.

4. 3-4 hours later (THIS IS IMPORTANT) say "HEY! Good news, I found some on amazon for even less than I was asking right here, talk about luck right?" and send your amazon affiliate link to the item.

NOW Listen Up

Don't put 3 and 4 in the same email, do you wanna look like you're trying to sell to them on this? No

People that respond are ALREADY WILLING to pay $320 for this, so you'll get an amazing conversion rate especially because they'd get it for less

Talk like a human being, not a commercial

    And it works with many other affiliate products (CJ, Ebay etc.), not necessarily with amazon.

    The idea is fine but craigslist is making it hard to pull something like this off. Craigslist marketers will back me up on this. Talk about phone verifications, ad ghosting, insane competition etc.

      As much as I can see how this could work, there is also the ethical stand point to take into consideration (No I'm not standing in judgement here). What I mean is, if you are thinking of doing this, just check out how you feel about it first.

      If you have no qualms, great go for it. However if you feel a little un easy about not telling the whole truth, step away - it's amazing how those uneasy feelings can subconciously trip you up.

      Ultimately do what feels right to you, don't let others tell you what is right and wrong (yes - that does include me ). That way you will make money and not feel guilty about it.

        Well said. As a writer with too much selling skills training, I know how much pressure you can be under to s-t-r-e-t-c-h the truth to get the sale.

        But lying to make a sale will always sear your conscience...and that tends to wreck other parts of your life.

        Better an honest sale with a health conscience......better night's sleep.

        So, yes, there are more ethical ways of approaching this....and still plenty of money to be made......

    Say you get 15 people. if you buy 15 of them and only 10 of the people buy, you're stuck with 5 units, also it would be weeks before you saw profit rather than in just a day or so.

    This way, the handling and delivery of the item is not your responsibility.

    Don't people check around for prices before buying an item off of CL? Of course, if the item is actually scarce on-line then the urgency would justify the price. But if a buyer is already looking on-line, how hard is it to run across the Amazon price?

    For a little twist on this that will work for virtually any product follow the below instructions. (I've never made money doing this myself but apparently it works)

    1) Find a good product on Amazon that is expensive enough to be worth promoting but still a good deal.

    2) Go on Craig's List and post an ad saying you're selling that product. Give a brief description of its condition (which you'll make up since you don't actually have it).

    3) Under the description put something like "Rather than listing all the features of this product I'm just linking to the same product on Amazon. It has everything listed to review".

    Make sure you're price is fairly close to the one on Amazon. When you get an email from someone just tell them it is already sold. They may end up buying it off Amazon using your link.

    Honestly, I'm not sure how well this would work. If I'm looking for something on craigslist it's because I want it severely discounted or local that I can just drive to and pick up and pay with cash.

    If I wanted to wait days to buy something on my credit card and pay for shipping and wait a week or so, I would be looking at amazon or any other site first.

    BarcsHasBite brings up a valid point. When I think of craigslist I think of local sales. However there are still plenty of people who would be interested in purchasing via Amazon and wait for it to be shipped.

    Man, this strategy is about 5 years old. It's very outdated. It may still work to a degree but you have two problems with it. Your ads will get ghosted or shutdown and sending Amazon links via email violates TOS.

    The violation of Amazon's terms of service is the first thing I thought of also.

    You have to figure out a way to get them to go to your website first and click a link there.
