Misc Questions About Wordpress, Blogging and IM

I have a few questions.

I read that you can add as many text widgets as you want to wordpress but how do you do this? I have a free wordpress theme but only have about 3 text widgets that I can see. I'd like to have more so I can add more advertising.

I used to be able to easily add an in-text Amazon ad but not anymore. The long code appears but when I view the page it is simply not there. It used to work. Does anyone know why this might be?

With regard to EZine, do the articles submitted have to be a certain length? Or is quality what matters? Also, if I submit an article does that mean they own it? Can I still put it on my blog or is that not allowed? Will it help me drive people to my blog?

Is Flickr a good place to get free pics to use on a commercial site?

Do you believe that it is possible to make money off a site that is not offering a product of some sort, like an e-book? Is offering a product the only way to make money?

Thank you for any answers that you provide.

    • Thank you.

I am using the Twenty Eleven 1.3 theme.
  • I use wordpress default theme and there is no limit on how much txt widget you can put in.

    • what is the default wordpress theme? I believe the one I used was the default. Thank you
  • Since you're using Twenty Eleven (the default theme), you just keep dragging the text widget over to the sidebar. It will add a new one every time that you drag it over. If you're using AdSense, you can only have 3 blocks up, so be careful with that.

If you're using the javascript version of the ads, that may cause problems. Always try to use the pure HTML code.

See the above poster's link. You're not hoping to get any benefit out of using EZA though are you?

Most images aren't free no matter where they are found. Read the individual user's terms before you steal an image as you can be sued for major money. You should check out Kozzi, iStockPhoto, or Shutterstock.

There are unlimited ways to make money. My personal blog offers nothing but my scrambled ramblings and notes about things I do wrong, yet it's made over $100 this year already. It has no advertising on it at all and just a few affiliate links.

    You're welcome.

    • Thanks for taking the time to answer all of these questions. I very much appreciate it.

With regard to Ezine, I don't know much about it and I thought it might be a way to increase my page views and thus make more money. I dont want other people owning my work though.

      Thanks again.
