How to set up multiple domains for one site

:confused:Hi all,

I have just purchased a .com domain, and I know it is good to have the .org and .net of the same name, too, and usually you can snatch them up for pretty cheap at the time.
So now I have the .com .org .net and .info of a domain, and I want to use mainly .com. What do I do with the other domain names (if anything)?

Any ideas and help would be appreciated.

I personally don't do anything with them. I just get them so other people can't if I really like the domain. You could do a 301 redirect to the .com from them if you want.

  • I would either do nothing or 301 them. If the domain is one of those domains that people type in directly a lot, then I would 301 everything to the main.
  • You can keep .com as primary domain and others as parked or add on domains.

Parked domain = A domain that point to the main site.
Add on domain = A domain that point to specific directory of main site.

    • Agree, use .com as primary domain and the 2 others as add on domains that point to the main site
  • I usually buy the names and just put up a "Coming Soon" page. You could tell visitors to those other pages to go to yoursite.com for more information.

  • Yup 301 redirect or permanently forward the domain to your main one
