So what's the latest rules on testimonials?

Is anyone familiar with some sort of summary as to the "do's" and "don'ts" of testimonials on a sales page, in light of current regulations?

Thanks so much,

- Paul

i don't think that there are any exact regulations in place by the ftc right now which i think is sad.

While I do appreciate it, since I'm just getting started with my sales pages, a 20 page detail is hardly what I could take the time to read as a high level summary.

Anyone able to point the major "don'ts" in a quick bulleted list or something?

Thanks very much for the guide - I will peruse it as soon as it is the next thing that seems knowing in detail would be valuable.

    Thanks again,

    - Paul

Is 20 pages too much to read when it could be the difference between being successful and losing everything you worked so hard to build?

Some people just like the shortcuts to success.. Think someone else will do the work for them

You know, I can't for the life of me, tell where this and the previous thought are coming from.

Some of us are treating our ventures as actual, serious, businesses, and not just a make money with IM point of view.

So while I realize that reading a 20 page manual on rules about testimonials in sales pages might seem like a deal of huge importance, in the context and scope of creating, developing, and running a whole business from scratch, it's not exactl front-burner material.

It's also just as apparent in how the emotional distance that forum posting puts us in, would allow for things to be said that would never be if we were having a few beers.

Like I said, I do appreciate the document, but in terms of the 400 other things I have to do in order to setup and run my business right, not to mention the products i am creating and are still in development, a brief summary WAS the thing that is most needed.

I'm sure I will read every last word of this entire document, so I do appreciate the two comments if I am misunderstanding it's importance as a "to do" thing right now.

Sorry if where I am in the business and product development cycle undervalued your gift, Brian.

I do appreciate your work and posts.

Please keep offering them when you feel valuable.

I'm sure I'll catch up in the meantime.

Thank you very much for all of the contributive info.

Sorry if anyone felt their time was wasted.

          Have a good day, all,

          - Paul

            Paul,

you confused me... If knowing the legal framework (in general) you are going to operate within, is NOT a "front-burner" - then what is? I mean for an actual, serious business.

    In short:

DO: Use real testimonials (with average results, not one time miracles -- something buyers can expect to do as well).
    DON'T: Use fake testimonials.

That's about what you should know. However I'm not an attorney and this is not legal advice, just the short list you asked for. Be truthful to your customers, don't hide anything and you should be fine.

20 pages are much to read, but if it makes the real difference I am ready to read even thousands. Thanks E. Brian Rose for showing the path to "do's and don'ts".

    Istvan,

    Thanks for your feedback.

Where would you put the 20 page document on testimonials in a sales page, compared to doing a good sales page, doing a good product, business setup and tax rules, web programming, and lots of other things.

    Front burner or back?

I see the context was blown here in some of these "complaints".

I certainly learned a lot from this thread and it was a lot more than were to find testimonial info.

    Cheers, all.
