Has anyone got a 'kick-ass' idea for making money out of the Olympics?

2 weeks of the Olympics followed shortly afterwards by the Paralympics. Hosted in one of, if not the busiest city in the world.

13 London venues and 11 non-London venues.

20,000 broadcasters, journalists, photographers, etc, in the IBC/MPC village alone.

2,000+ competing athletes.

314 events.

All Stadiums and London hotels sold out.

Countless millions in Britain for the games, probably a billion watching worldwide, many of which eager to snap up a souvenir or something associated.

SO ANY IDEAS TO MILK THIS MONEY COW???

I have one. Quite a good one if I say so myself. Anyone else?

How about setting up a Fish n Chip stall nearby? We'll be millionaires like Lord Alan Sugar then get fired after the 2 weeks.

But seriously anyone with any food stalls will make a killing as all the guests around the world will want to taste the different foods available in the UK or even becoming a tourist guide. You just need a car, cards and time. Show our guests the real London.

Probably more like 10 billion plus watching world wide.

The established food stall traders will do just that. Bear in mind that if you want to get into that game then you will need the facilities, equipment, training, a site to pitch your business and all of the appropriate licenses and permits.

Sorry guys, you should have thought about this potential opportunity two or more years ago. Now is far too late!

BUT of course there is (are) the next Olympics and the Winter Olympics!

Assuming every single person in the world was watching, there still wouldn't be 10 billion people watching...

Still, there will definitely be a fair few. I think 1 billion is pretty close.

Good luck being arrested running an illegal taxi service. I presume you have never tried driving around London? It would take half a day to go about 2 miles during the Olympics

I see you live in the UK! as was mentioned above its a little late to start thinking about it now, however if you live near london then the opportunities are endless!

1000's of different events, 1000's of different niches! for example there are thousands of people going to watch the Equestrian events, I bet 80% of these spectators are horse lovers, and we all know (horsey) people are quite passionate!!! find a good horse related company offering an affiliate programe, or ebooks on the rules, do's and don'ts of all things related to equestrian! print up flyers and distribute outside the venue! the same with cycling, swimming, rowing, shooting, archery etc etc all those targeted people in one small area!!!! gold!

Ok, this ones a little outside the box, but again using Equestrian as an example, think about how many visitors would love a little momento from their day! again create a simple squeeze page for people to visit to submit their emails and name! advertise your site again on leaflets as a way to remember your day! after the event itself there will be tons of images and photos all over the net, tons you can get for free! grab all these images together and using some free cam software such as camtasia or something, put together a slide show to music of all the related photos! sell these for a couple of dollars each as a memento for their day! again your advertising would be leaflets handed out around the equestrian centre!

I'm sure there is something similar to be done using CPA too!

Start looking at who might be a possible upset winner in one of the event and interview them. They will be less popular and perhaps easier to get.

Use them to drive traffic to your site, where you will have Olympics related offers. Google and Amazon. If you can get accepted, Ebay works too.

Write articles about the athletes' work-out equipment, diet, etc, and publish these in the many thousands of topical health-related ezines, blogs/websites and off-line magazines available. This can drive torrents of traffic to Amazon product offerings such as books, exercise equipment, vitamins, food supplements, and even some of the personal products used by Olympic athletes.

If someone put a gun to my head and told me to make $25,000 off the olympics, I would talk about online betting. If I had the site hosted in the UK, I would push a couple of UK betting sites and talk about the events that I know most.

Someone mentioned equestrian earlier. I had no idea that was related to the olympics. People love to bet on horses. Forget the e-books. Tell people how to make money betting. People love betting and they love the idea of easy money.

lol ... this is really a fun thread.

There are 7 billion people living in the world. Probably 50% don't have access to TV. That's 3.5 billion left. Half of them would rather be doing something else rather than watching Olympics, including me. That would leave a balance of say 2 billion. Say 50% are toddlers who won't even understand whats going on. That would make 1 billion people who would really watch Olympics if they wanted to.

Because of Time Zones, probably 30% could see Live Broadcast on certain events of their National favourites. The rest would see edited broadcasted versions.

You'll find a great surge of people coming from everywhere in the world, hanging around not far from the Olympics venues.

If it is too late to cash in during the Olympics, it is NOT too late to market things during the Olympics to cash in after.

Eye catching Flyers and Name Cards are best.

Those who can afford to visit UK during the Olympics are probably people who can spend money. My assumption is that most of them would be young to middle-aged people who are net-savvy.

I am not much into sports but when we had the 2010 soccer here in SA a week before the end I registered whoisgoingtowin.co.za and had people subscribing to win a price of they could guess the winner of the semi finals and final. I build a small list this way and also monetized it with adsense. The click were prime so made a few good $ in that short time.

Was going to continue doing it but lost interest and dropped the domain. I see whoisgoingtowin.co.uk is available and as there are more sport option select a few and you will make money with adsense especially if you have a list to start it off with

Everybody like to win something so you list can be for any niche and they will enter.

I also at the same time registered worldfootballbetting.com and it is about to exspire in a few days if anybody want it for free. It is with godaddy and I will push it to your account.

You can't put adsense on there but I am dropping it. The front page of the site is hacked but easy to fix as I lost interest in the domain and that niche

If you in London it is easier as you can take pics and generate traffic with pininterest etc.

Not a smart move... here in the UK gambling is extremely regulated (and yes, even if your visitors don't pay any money it could still be construed as gambling), so I wouldn't use this strategy just to make "a few good $" considering the risks

Plaster a whole bunch of posters with your URL on telephone poles at intersections. Kidding.

Anything web related, ie streaming, could have serious implications.

As an aside, I was listening to sports radio one day, they were talking about all time best slam dunks in Basketball. The best was when Vince Carter jumped over a guy in Australia I believe. Due to the Olympic content rules or whatever, the Olympics own that material, and networks, cannot even show that in a highlight reel. Go figure.

That is called ticket scalping and the practice has been cracked down on by the sports and entertainment industries, not to mention doing so automatically voids the ticket.

High fine for scalping Olympics tickets - UPI.com

If caught, it is a $32K fine.

Paypal and other business such as ebay won't process funds or allow such sales.

And as far as setting up your own website to do it, wouldn't take long before the cease and desist letters start rolling in.

Depending where you live, engaging in this practice could be potentially illegal.

I know many people who have made money selling t-shirts after some city's professional sports team wins a championship. People like to buy t-shirts. If you have or can get a hold of the equipment to make a lot of t-shirts quickly, you could set up a website to sell them on-line. Or if you are in London, you could set up a booth and sell them there.

A couple years ago when I was first learning IM, I read about a guy who, when one of the world cup soccer games was about to start (a week-long tournament), he found a software package that streamed TV to a PC over the web. He promoted it (can't remember how) and in the opening hours of the first game, he was making $90 per minute. It dropped off soon, and spiked and dropped throughout the week, but he made some good bank

Not going to use this one, but I would if I had more time: Set up a twitter account especially for the Olympics. Hire people to write jokes about Olympic news and tweet every hour or two. You'd get followers and retweets really fast because you're posting humor related to current trends. Then promote Olympic-related products to the followers.

Exactly how I made money in 2004 while on a 2 year "working" holiday in London.

At one stage, I did security work at a large distribution warehouse which was right opposite a Football stadium. My friend and I worked on Sundays when the warehouse was closed for business and most Sundays there was a match at the stadium and the people BEGGED us to park in our 400 car lot because there was a lack of parking (like almost everywhere in London).

We did a deal with the manager of the warehouse and then rented the parking spaces for 10 quid per car and we made an absolute bundle every Sunday.

I bought a 4x4 Toyota Hilux D4D Double Cab upon my return, CASH, from my "Parking Money".

Great times those.... back when 1 GBP (British Pound) was worth 18 ZAR (South African Rand).

Parking is BIG, if you can rent space and sell it per hour, you will do great, I've spent some time in Russia recently where a parking space for a single car can go for $100,000 (nothing fancy, just a big parking lot with a tin roof and a fence around it)
