What Software for Banner Design

I am at the point of needin to design some professional looking online banner ads. My question is:

What software do you use to make your banners?

Any hints or tips?

Many thanks in advance!

P.S. I don't have access to photoshop and even if I did I wouldn't have time to learn it! I have used a software called aviary (in google apps) but don't know if this is suitable or if there is something better to use?

Personally I sometimes use Banner Design Studio to make banners, but nowadays I just use the GIMP to make them. It's really not hard and doesn't take long to learn, and this is coming from someone who used to suck at graphic design.

I have been wanting to test out Gimp for a long time but always been scared off the thought of having to learn something that I thought would be above average in difficulty!

But I might have a look at it now.

Xara is awesome!! It's way cheaper than photoshop and it is more powerful in my opinion, not to mention it's easier to learn. I have been using Xara for around 5-6 years and I absolutely love it.

I would recommend whipping out Microsoft Paint and coming up with something yourself!

Nice, professional looking banners will blend in with other banners on the site.

But an ugly looking banner that you did in paint will stand out so much more!

I like to include a big bold black border for the banner, bold red text as the headline, and underlined blue text (looking like a hyperlink) as the call to action.

You may try Banner Designer Pro 5.1 for making your banner. It is a cool tool for creating banner. I think you will need little work for establishing control over it.

I outsource it, but when I started a few years back I used photoshop because I was a designer before getting into marketing so I know all the basics. If you have photoshop (don't buy it if you don't) then you can play around and learn it in just 30 minutes. To create banners is the easiest thing to do, but if you feel it's a waste of time I'd say just outsource it. I usually get 3 banners for $6. And they're all professional.

I use Photoshop, but if your budget doesn't stretch that far GIMP makes a usable substitute.

If you're worried about learning curve and the time it takes, I'd recommend you get someone else to do your banners. You can guarantee quality design then.

You gotta go with Photoshop if you plan on doing a lot of it.

Personally I'd recommend Photoshop too. It has a steeper learning curve than some of the alternatives mentioned, but there are a wealth of freely available tutorials to help you get the most out of it.

I also use and would recommend Adobe Photoshop. But sometimes I also use online Banner Maker sites. There are quite a few. I just browse through them and stop to the point where I've found what I'm looking for.

Photoshop is my choice. But I also use adkreator for quick projects. Its cheap and an online option so you don't have to load software on your computer. You can download the banners you create and load them on your own server or site.

Gimp is free and while it make take a few hours to learn to do headers there are plenty of videos on YouTube showing you how its done.

I have used xheader -http://www.xheader.com/ - as well which is free with a $17 upsell option. If you are not arty (which I am not) then this may work well for you.

It really depends on how much time you want to spend on making them and how complicated you want them to be.

      Good luck

Xheader.com is ok for a freebie. Good for simple headers. Not so much for complicated ones though.

If I understand you correctly, you need a program that can print poster or banner on A4 printer. To solve similar problems, I use this software to print banners.
