Cheapest Video Streaming:Amazon or Screencast?

Hello Everyone:

I am thinking of doing a video course and am wondering if it would be more cost effective to set the videos on Amazon s3 or Screencast in order to be streamed and watched. Or does it just make sense to make them downloadable. I am talking about 10 to 11 hours of video.

Thanks,
Charles

  • In my opinion SimpleCDN is the best deal for streaming videos...

    SimpleCDN - Pure Delivery

Far cheaper than S3, and it has been rock-solid for me so far.

    • Web Hosting: Dedicated & Shared Website Hosting Solutions - Aplus.net - Hundreds of thousands of video views streamed and never a problem in two years of testing the economy account.

Web Hosting by PowWeb - One Plan, One Price - load balanced and collocated unlimited storage and bandwidth for under $4 a month.

Screencast is for those who do not know better. You get 10x the bandwidth at Aplus for the same price.

Amazon s3 is great if you need to guarantee unlimited bandwidth... but it is actually one of the most expensive hosting options for bandwidth amounts of more than 58gb a month. But you have the advantage of it being instantly scalable.
    • Wow, thanks for that link. I'm a big fan of CDN and will
bookmark them as a resource to look at.

Right now, I use Softlayer's CDN from Internap.com without a hitch, but it
is hard to recommend them all the time because one has to be a
customer who uses Softlayer's dedicated servers to get access to the
Internap CDN, which is what many companies around the world use to
stream to hundreds of thousands effortlessly.

I put all my training videos on aplus as Josh uses, as aplus is pretty reliable and
easy to put up videos with simple ftp that many are going to be viewing.
    • Is SimpleCDN easy to setup and upload stuff for non-tech types like myself?

      Steve
  • I use Vimeo Plus, great features and excellent prices for Plus account. Supports HD too.

You can enable your domain only embedding (meaning noone else will be able to embed the video and noone can watch it anywhere but on your site).
