You are basically going to write EXCELLENT content which will be syndicated to many news websites, so it needs to be compelling content because it will attract real human readers.
Why is this awesome?
Unlike SEO that can take months to rank for any worthwhile traffic (only to be penalized by Google!) or PPC that can costs lots of money and requires tedious and constant optimization, or even creating blogs that again take tedious work to develop... press releases gets you instant explosion of traffic the moment it gets publicized.
A few options you can do with this traffic:
-send it to the actuall offer with your cloaked affiliate link.
-send it to your blog for link juice and visitors
-send it to a squeeze page and build your e-mail list.
Typically you can only write about "newsworthy" content. But is this really a problem?
How many niches are there that there is a constant flood of new products? Even big brand name products?
Here's a nifty idea. Many of you geeks (like myself) know about Diablo 3? This was probably the biggest product release in the gaming industry for this year. You could have easily written an article about it, and gotten a crap ton of traffic from the press release. Imagine if you sent that to an squeeze page and got them all on your list? Promote free best buy gift cards to them? Etc?
Other cool benefits of press releases, the news sites that your article gets syndicated on also ranks highly on Google (hint, hint).
