I am currently looking at purchasing some website software and came across Serif Webplus 10. Has anybody had any experience of this software and if so is it worth purchasing. I am new to building websites and the reviews of this software state that it is ideal for somebody like me.
I look forward to anybody's comments

Regards

I use a free piece of software to build sites called Nvu. When you're new, I don't think you need to plunk down money on a fancy one, because the majority of bells and whistles in them are gonna be useless to you. Nvu will do all the basics and has a very easy intuitive interface. I love it, and I've owned FrontPage and Dream Weaver in the past (hundreds of dollars for each). I'd take Nvu over both of them for 99% of what I need in building sites.

    Download it here.

I agree. NVU is the way to go. Don't purchase software that has a steep learning curve because you will become frustrated. NVY has everything you need to get online fast and efficiently.

I must say that I have used most of the web building software out there including dreamweaver, frontpage, Xsite pro. But as a new website builder, NVU will perform for you.

Recently, however, I got one of those AHA moments and decided if I wanted to expand my virtual empire,I'd puchase ready made websites to eliminate the hassel of building them one at a time. But that part of my business came much later after building my own useing NVU.

I've used the Serif range of products. Simple to use but limited functionality compared to many. I recommend NVu/Kompozer. Almost as good as Dreamweaver, but free!

Excellent point Marty but I would suggest Wordpress as I feel it's a lot easier to learn than Joomla especially since kimkitch is new to site building and there are some excellent free themes out there.

True enough, I use both but for different reasons. The sites that have my personal attention I use Joomla. For sites that I just want auto-feeds I use WP.

I used the NVU and did ok, buy my sites looked really plain as I had no idea what I was doing. Then about a month ago I came across this site called 90 Second Website builder. I loved it so much, I became an affiliate. Check out the free demo vid, and there are tons of bonuses. I still have alot to learn how to make them look like the top pros, but I now have the software to do it.

Check it out below it's cool as hell

I would also recommend Joomla or WordPress. You can create any kind of site using these platforms. I have more than 20 Joomla sites and 10 Wordpress sites. No problems till now.

Try Weebly. It's free and you can export your site to your own server if you want or host it there for free. They just added a new feature that lets you customize or import your own theme which is pretty nice. It's very easy to use for the beginner. I also like wordpress and if you have hostgator you can install it in a few seconds.

      Hi Bill,

I suspect also that you mother hen them in terms of upgrading fixes for the platform and all extensions! I essentially quit developing client deployments two years ago due to the ease that they can be hacked and "owned" by hostiles. SMF integration was a key in the infiltration process.

It's a great platform though--and major media players are using modified versions. I have a new test domain that I am bringing up--and plan to use the v1.6 beta along with CB Marketplace and see how it performs. I will be mothering it...

I'll cast a vote for Wordpress, although I like Joomla too. Wordpress has a lot of free themes available that you can customize, and the 3.0 version of Wordpress has the 2010 theme that looks pretty good too.

It's really not worth shelling out money when there are so many good, free options around. I've used quite a few Serif products including their website builder. Used to think it was quite good, till I learned WP.

Actually, I used to think a lot of things were pretty good till I learned WP. Maybe I've been brainwashed.

I didn't find here anybody talking about Artister: Artisteer - Joomla template generator and Wordpress theme generator.

If free WordPress or Joomla is not enough for you and you definitely want to spend your money then I recommend Artister ($130).
It is good quality and easy to use product you can create HTML, WordPress, Blogger, Joomla, Drupal type of websites.

Here is the quote from the site:

Artisteer is the first and only Web design automation product that instantly creates fantastic looking, unique website templates and blog themes.

    - Design awesome blogs and cool web templates in minutes
    - Export to Blogger, Joomla, Wordpress and other CMS products
    - No need to learn Photoshop, CSS, HTML or other technologies
    - Fun and easy to use!

With Artisteer YOU immediately become a Web design expert, editing and slicing graphics, coding XHTML and CSS, and creating Web Design Templates, Joomla templates, Drupal themes, Wordpress themes, DotNetNuke skins, and Blogger templates all in minutes, without Photoshop or Dreamweaver, and no technical skills.

      Dreamweaver isn't for noobies.

Wordpress and Joomla are free and offer good content management, but can be a little difficult to learn. If FREE is your ultimate motivation, then go with WordPress.

I recommend XSitePro. Is has a very easy to use WYSIWYG interface that kicks butt.

Artisteer is a template generater and not a web building platform itself. So if you went with Artisteer you'd have to also use WordPress or Joomla or Drupal. Artisteer is good if you really want to design your own template and then use Wordpress or one of the other programs mentioned.

XSitePro also came out with their beta version 2.5. I don't recommend beta software, but I'm letting you know about the FREE upgrade for all XSPv.2 users when it's available. The Beta has some great blogging features.

While not the perfect web building software, I recommend XSP for beginners.

This thread was started a long time ago.....but apparently...it is still worth commenting on.

If you have never built a website, there is a learning curve involved. But you will want to learn some things on your own if you really want to learn to build websites.

WordPress is the way to start. Use a self hosted WP. Then use KompoZer to create any special html or php pages to your WP. Then learn how to do ftp and upload with FileZilla.

Save your money and learn something today.

KompoZer (the new NVU) and FileZilla are free.

      To your success.

      Hi,

Yes KompoZer is fine, I use that when I want a quick page, but XSitePro can automate a boatload of things that KompoZer will never do! Secondly, WordPress is a bear to manage, and update. WebPlus X4 is quite good at CSS code.

From my experience the leader at this time is WebPlus (by 1/2 point) over XSitePro with WordPress in last place (though I still love WordPress too).
