Another Newbie here :)

Hey all!

I've been scanning the forums here for a few months. I've seen a lot of great ideas turn into success and I guess I'm a little overwhelmed as to where to start. Currently I work in the IT field just outside of Toronto, Canada and I'm looking for something to supplement my income. I'm currently pursuing a BCOMM part time and always dreamed about becoming an entrepreneur. I do not know a heck of a lot in terms of IM but I'm willing to put into some time to learn from the bottom up. In terms of a niche, I wouldn't know where to get started. Is there a holy grail of guides for newbies? I've got some experience with blog writing/wordpress and hobby writing is something that I've always been interested in.

Thank you in advance for the feedback

Vinny.

If you can write, and build WP you're half way there. Do some keyword research and try to find something you know about and can speak with authority on. You sound like a well educated, intelligent guy so you should be able to figure this all out.

Maybe develop an info. product that will teach people what you know.

Everyone will tell you their product is the "holy grail" but in reality you can learn most everything you need to know by studying what successful IMers are doing. Subscribe to some lists of people here that have good things to say in their posts. Request their free ebooks etc.

    Learn website optimization.

Don't be afraid to jump in, the water is fine...

Why don't you start by doing article writing service? I have read a lot that article writers/ghost writers make a lot of money. Do things that you are already good at is better than starting things from scratch.

You can still learn other IM business model as you go along.

      Welcome to the Warrior Forum.

I always suggest to people when they're starting out to learn how to build Wordpress pages and learn how to optimize your sites so they rank for your specific keywords.

When I started 5 years ago I started to buy online courses from Brian G. Johnson. His courses showed me how to find niches, how to do keyword research, how to build WP sites, how to optimize these sites, and how to make money from these sites.

Feel free to PM me with any questions...

  • Since you mentioned you need additional income, why not find work from home jobs that can allow you to get paid while learning important things about starting, running and growing online businesses, product and offsite/onsite content development & marketing, mailing list building, traffic generation and SEO/SEM among other Internet marketing-related topics? For instance:

If you have suitable English research and writing expertise, especially about subject areas in the IT industry, then you can find seasoned warriors here and in other relevant Web forums who need content researchers/writers for their IM-related sites. This way, you can research, write and learn about Im-related topics, all while getting paid in the process. Though keep in mind:

You can increase your perceived value in these marketplaces when you establish your reputation in these Web forums as a friendly, expert resource of useful info, advice, content, products and writing-related services relevant to IM subject areas. And, most of these Web forums have marketplaces where you can post your service offers...

Thank you so much to everyone that replied! I feel like I'm no longer taking a stab in the dark here anymore. I've noticed such a positive vibe in this short time that I've been here and I've realized that the majority of users want to see their peers succeed just as much as themselves.

Marx - I'm curious. Do you have more info on work from home jobs? If you can provide me some additional resources that would be awesome.

Beware of the whole work from home jobs, not that they are all necessarily scams, but most are. If there was an easy way to do it, everyone would.

Keep studying. It sounds like you already have at least one blog. Does it get any traffic? Maybe you can expand on that. Promote some related affiliate products or implement some Adsense.

Go to the Warriors Willing to Hire You section of this forum. Warriors post their work from home jobs there. Just keep in mind to apply for offers which require you to research and write content about IM-related topics, so you can learn while you get paid. And:

You can also go to the Warriors For Hire section of this forum and post your service offers there. Don't forget to mention that you're only willing to write IM-related content. Though if you want to write about other topics that interest you or where you have substantial knowledge and expertise in, then feel free to do so. And:

You can also view other work from home posts of webmasters operating IM-related sites in other Web forums focused on IM-related topics, and you can also post your service offers in the marketplaces of those Web forums. Just remember to:

Initially establish your reputation in those Web forums as a friendly expert resource of IM-related info and advice relevant to Web content research and writing about those topics and sub topics among other things related to this niche, before you post service offers...

Welcome to the forum Vinny. I started out in article writing and actually did pretty good with it. I was lucky to write for a very good internet marketer who I learned much of what I know from. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. There is much information on this site for you to start with.

One of my favorite sayings from one of my favorite mentors is "You don't have to be good to start but you have to start to get good." I have 100+ websites that make money. But, I've launched (and killed) probably another 200 or 300 websites that just sucked. So, my suggestion would be to just get "something" launched and see how it goes. Don't worry about trying to know it all before taking your first step or having the perfect business plan in place. You'll probably change it anyway in two weeks.

        Welcome!

A niche is a very good question...

You need to find something that has very high demand AND something that you are passionate about so that you can dedicate your time (lots of it) to make it successful.

If you come across as someone who knows their stuff, then people will begin to follow you, which in turn leads to like and trust!

        The rest will be history!

I made a video in YouTube re starting in IM and steps to follow. Check it out if you think it will be useful... No opt in...just good stuff!

Hi Vin, welcome to the forum! I've done IT for over 25 years and started with no IM knowledge as well. I've made a lot of mistakes along the way as well learning IM but it has been worth it. My advice to you is to do some research in the forum, find out what interests you and focus on it. One of my earlier mistakes was to try and do too many things at once and find the next fastest way to make money online. I've learnt to focus on specific areas now, but diversify my business outside of IM as well so you don't have all your eggs in one basket. All the best!

    Hi Vinny,

    A warm welcome to WF.

Unfortunately there is no holy grail or magic bullet for IM. I wished there was... :-)

Try to learn as much a you can. Joining the War Room is a great investment.

Chris Farrell member is also a good start for beginners.

I find that I am plenty interested in more than one niche; however as stated above it would be in my best interested to build upon what I already know instead of starting from scratch elsewhere. Perhaps starting from scratch is not necessarily a bad thing as we all need to start somewhere. Going through the forums it's easily to get sidetracked as there's so much interesting topics that inspire me to do more research on them as opposed to sticking with one niche.

I think it will be best if I start up a fresh new blog and write about what interests me. At the same time, I'll find ways to generate traffic and closely monitor its progress. I've got a lot to learn in terms of getting my site ranked and SEO but there's definitely no shortage of resources to help guide me.

How useful would it be learn wordpress inside and out as opposed to creating a blog with a wicked template and letting SEO generate traffic? I'm sure with all the plugins available there's has to be a couple must have plugins that would supplement traffic generating. More traffic = more confidence which will then allow me to get some feedback as to what I'm doing wrong and what I should be doing differently. I apologize if any of this sounds redundant and rather cliche seeing as I'm a n00b

    Thanks again folks!
