Advice re my videos being copied

Hi - would be very grateful for advice on this - cannot make sense of Youtube's TOS so hoping some kind soul will help me.

Checking my Youtube videos a few minutes ago I noticed that someone has copied one of mine, including the entire quite long description. They have simply replaced my links with their own. Is this against Youtube's TOS?

I am just getting strted with Youtube so not sure about how I stand but it seems a bit unfair that someone can just take my work and copy it - why can't they make their own for goodness sake?

Anyway and advice would be very much appreciated.

    This used to happen more often but not so much as yotube has been penalizing duplicate videos. If you can prove it its your video (your voice, face, music) you can flag it on the copyrite grounds. Or the best thing to do is to message the person who stole it and ask them to take it down and don't forget to remind them that if you flag them their whole channel might get closed.

    Thanks for the replies, I will contact Youtube.

    I have now looked at this person's channel and its quite bizzare. They joined yesterday and have about 60 videos uploaded. The subjects vary but every single one seems to have the title of my video tacked to the end of its own title and the description form my video even though its completely irrelevant to most of them. Cannot see what this person is trying to achieve. I suspect all of the videos are copied although I haven't checked this yet.

      That doesn't mean you can steal them and re-upload them back onto YouTube and call them your own.

      Surely people realise this?

    This is common. Sometimes my videos are stolen by a few people, uploaded to YouTube and there are 4-5 versions of the my videos scattered around.

    I know this is really annoying and unethical.

    I believe YouTube is clamping down on this.

    YouTube belongs to Google and it is smart. Don't mess with it.

    Sooner or later, I believe duplicate contents will be removed automatically.

      You should indeed report it to YouTube.

      I have had success in this. Someone copied mine and posted it as their own, I reported them and was directed by YouTube to fill out a form. After I did, I received notice from YouTube stating the problem had been resolved.

      When I went back to check, the video in question had been blacked out and had a message something of the effect that the video had been deemed in violation of copyright infringement by me.

      You know, some thieves aren't very bright. How I discovered the theft in the first place was by a notification in my email that this person subscribed to my channel and was asking if I wanted to subscribe back with a link to their channel.

      I naturely went to check it out before subscribing and lo and behold, this person only had 2 videos and one was mine. :rolleyes:

    Hi and sorry for delay in coming back to this thread - I had a family crisis.

    I decided to contact the owner of the channel first - I didn't say which video was mine, just that they had copied one of mine and would thet please remove it or I would report them. Next time I checked the whole channel was shut down.

    I think all of the videos on their channel were copied - what a waste of time, if they had made their own they would still have been there.

    Anyway thanks to everyone who replied, it is much appreciated.
