Membership site funding

Hi,

I'm creating a membership training site soon that will have tutorials on video editing programs/photoshop etc... I am going to fund as much of it as possible out of my pocket. I was pondering over this idea however. Would it be worth it to start a Kickstarter or IndieGoGo project up to raise some starting funds?

Thanks.

    Hi Euan,

You will be amazed how much free stuff is out there...just ask for what you need!

If you do intend pursuing the fund raising route you'll a business plan (that is itself a journey) with all possibilities accounted for.

I would recommend you have a go first. That way you'll gain even more experience, get better and then be the polished article when asking for money in the future!

You might of course take off in between and not need the money...

If you need additional investment, why don't you go first to get the initial capital from your family?

Just get the capital fast, so you could create the product quickly, and make your first sales immediately.

I think the first sales is the most important thing when you are starting a business.

    Thanks for the advice.

I have around $300-$400 to invest at the moment. Some of that will be spent on ads for promoting site the site. I'll probably just go with that then and see how I get on. It should be enough to get me off the ground anyway.

You can start with an autoresponder and a place to host your videos. A simple website could be used to send people to sign up. A few dollars spent to advertise/promote to go along with some free promotion and you can get started. You can do this for under $200. Less if you only use free promotion methods and no website.

Test to see if you have product people want and then work with the income from the site to expand.

If you're looking to raise some money in order to fund your membership site, why not consider offering your services here in the Warrior Forum? Depending on your particular skill set, there's a big need for video editors. Perhaps you can speak more to what your skills/abilities are? All I know is that's how I got started...offering my service here in the Forum.

    Best,

    Hey Ewan,

I see that you 14 years old and doing this, wow good for you! I do not know if you are just starting out don't have a Theme or what not (I would Imagine that you do) '

But, in the event that you do not.... I have a Genesis Framework Developers License (FULL GPL) and if you need a Framework and a Theme for your project just go pick out one of the Genesis child theme templates and I will send you that and the Genesis Framework.

    Ok???

    Hey Ewan,

Welcome to the Warrior Forum. I noticed that your profile says you're 14 years old and if I were you, I'd use that as a marketing tactic.

"Look at me I'm only 14 years old and teaching people how to use photoshop etc"

Don't let people say that just because something is available free elsewhere doesn't mean that you still can't charge for it. There are dozens of major websites that charge for training videos and they do just fine.

My biggest suggestion is to pick one specific niche or program that is currently underserved in the market and to go after that. Photoshop for example is covered in detail a lot.

Best of luck and if you do a Kickstarter play up your youth - people eat that up. Sell them on your story - why you want to create a business at such a young age etc.

Thanks! I'm looking into doing lots of training videos, also for programs that tutorials aren't too common for like you said.

Thanks for suggesting that. I never actually thought much about that. I usually just go on freelancing sites but that section looks pretty active too

Yes, very active. It's where I got my start and I was able to turn it into a full time business.

Hope you can do the same.
