Do person-based videos convert better or more promotional ones?

Hi,

I just wanted to make a video for a product but I am still pondering
if presenting myself and talking a bit is better or doing something
more promotional-like where no person is talking but just the benefits
of the product is presented?

What do you think?

Anytime you give people a chance to see and hear you, you're getting a chance to show them that you really are legitimate -- instead of some kind of slimeball who's just trying to make a quick buck Of course, you'll need to do more than just talk off the top of your head. That's a great way to wind up with a ton of "uhhhs" and "ummms" that make you look a little silly (and a little boring).

I'm confused as to how you would make a video where no one is talking?? Do you mean just having music/graphics and showing video of the product? I don't know what your product is or who your target audience is, but (to me, anyways) something like that could seem more like a commercial -- meaning people may not want to sit around and watch it. Just my $0.02 though

I would have to agree with Nicole-personalized videos are always best. That puts a face behind the product rather than just having text or a voiceover doing the talking. It makes people more willing to trust you and they might feel more comfortable purchasing the product.

I must agree that personalized videos are the best! My favorite internet marketer in front of camera is Steve Clayton!

Sure, the more personalized you get the more sincere people who watch your video will feel. This method can truly generate lots of traffic to affiliate site.

It doesnt matter if your personality/character are not interesting. People will click on the links/buy if they feel you are speaking the truth.

That, unfortunately, is not true. If you're not interesting, people aren't going to stick around long enough to see your link or decide to buy your product. They'll give you a few seconds of their time, and then they'll be out of there.

You don't necessarily need the on-camera charisma of Walter Cronkite to make good videos, but you do have to be interesting. It's no different than writing an article or a blog post; if it's boring, people will click away.

I am surprised at some of the big name marketers that use a power point slide and read the text while never showing their face. That tells me it works and most likely they have tested it.

Most of us don't look as good as Nicole so it might be a determent as well.

The point about making it personal sounds logical but doesn't seem to be important.

In the end it boils down to what your market wants--which means testing.

Personal hands down, people don't like to be sold to.
This also helps with branding which is very important as
    It increases your conversion rates.
    Your audience has to:

    1- Know you.
    2-Like you.
    3-Trust you.

    Kal.

I like videos where I can see the person's face and I do not care what they look like, though I am sure some people do. Some videos go on entirely too long and I will become so aggravated with how much time the video is consuming, I will leave the video, or if it is one of the 0.1% out there that lets me, I will fast forward. Whatever kind of video you go with, I would recommend a concise one!

People need to connect, anonymity doesn't convert as well as people think it does. If it did, why would companies spend millions on people with a certain kind of look to pitch products rather than showing faceless demos and listing the benefits of using or owning said product. In fact, on eBay alone my conversion rates almost doubled. ON EBAY. How many people on eBay even use videos? I've hardly even seen any and it takes hardly any skill or know-how to create and list a video.

My two cents, if I may. When I see a product page with a video I find it rather annoying and generally not helpful. That's not to say I feel this way about all of them, but over all most annoy me and it makes me leave the page.

I'd rather see a page with facts, details, in text format.

That being said, don't listen to me. I'm sure videos help a lot of the products sale.

Sweet cheeks here is right. I came across yet another product page last weekend and decided to watch the video. The guy talked like a robot, I thought he was until I heard him laugh at what he thought was a joke he made.

Hire a voice actor if you have to.

I one hundred percent agree with nicol that when viewer see your eyes and can hear your voice clearly then it will impact a positive review on their mind. so use always try to use yourself in your videos.
If you are not good in speaking english (because its an international language) then you can hire others to do it meanwhile try to speak it clearly with much more practice.
mixing of personalisation with some special effects can make your video on high rank too.

My strategy is to show my face on the video for 10-20 seconds and then get to a presentation style video (infomovie) for communicating information. It establishes trust and then communicates the info effectively.

If it is just the infomovie with no face then there is lack for connection.

If it is just the talking head, it is difficult to mass produce and also not effective if you haven't prepared well.

If you find it difficult to talk in front of a camera, use a teleprompter.

From a pure consumer point of view, I like Deepak's approach, especially when well-done.

Watching some Frank Kern wannabe in a t-shirt and jeans sitting in a Yugo with a Flip cam trying to sell me a treadmill is either boring or tragic comedy. Either way, he ain't selling no treadmill.

As for those power point plus music "videos", I can't tell you if they work or not. I click away as soon as I recognize that's what I'm watching. Even worse are those 'article to video conversion' abominations, where the so-called video is just the article scrolling by. That might have pleased a search bot at one time, but I can't believe any intelligent person would sit through one and then say "hey, I gotta have that and I gotta buy it through this handy bit.ly link"...

I tend to use a mixture whenever possible...have me "to camera" introducing and tailing the video and have either screen capture or powerpoint in the middle.

Not only does this 'break the video up' making it more watchable but it means I get the best of both worlds.

I'm not really fond of personal. A lot of these sales pages with videos have actors and not really the person who made the product.
