I own a lot of Facebook pages that are getting pretty big now. Actually they are growing by the hundreds every single day.

But now Facebook is telling me that I have to pay to promote my status updates.

I realize this is another way for Facebook to keep their network free and make money off of it, but it's just annoying to see that they want me to spend even more money.

I put together this little picture to show you guys a status update I posted.. I do like the new organic/viral feature they added.

Now I see the benefits of this.

It's kind of like you are using your current fan base to advertise to. Which can be a good thing, but it also means that what people see on their newsfeeds aren't exactly what they want to see.

I just felt I should share this real quick because it bugged me when I saw that they wanted me to spend more money xD

P.S. If you know of any other major benefits of the promote button go ahead and share it with me. I haven't tested it out personally yet.

    Hi Justin,

I personally think FB's new Promoted Posts is a good thing. It's a
way of allowing Page owners to reach more people "guaranteed".

If you paid the $200 with an estimated reach of 97k and you had
a status update that was promoting your product or an affiliate
product and you made actual sales to just 2% of the 97k...

Let's say you made a $25 profit to the 2% (1,940 people)... unless
my math is off, that would translate into a $48,500 profit.

Now, wouldn't the initial $200 that FB charged you to reach the
    estimated 97k be worth it?

I think so but maybe I'm wrong.

Also, when you think about it, FB is giving marketers a way to
"guarantee" that X amount of people will see your status update
(which could be a marketing message) without having to worry
that your status update will end up in a SPAM folder OR be sent
to an email address that a person rarely checks, etc.

    Just my 2c...

    Thanks,

    Robert
