My email and ebay got hacked into twice within 24 hours!

What am I doing that's making it so easy for this hacker to get into my account?

How can I prevent this from happening again?

I believe you received answers to this on Bill Myers' forum when you asked the same question. Maybe someone can shed some more light for you. But, you'll need to provide more detailed info for anyone to help.

Usually when an ebay account is hacked, it is due to a phishing scam (ie. you clicked on a link in an email and logged into a page that looked like Ebay, but really wasn't).

However, since this hacker also has your email account, it could be something different.

Once someone has your email, they can often get your other passwords (ebay, etc). A lot of people store their passwords in their email account and even if they don't. the hacker can use a "lost password" feature on almost any site to have it sent to the email address.

As far as how a hacker would get into your email... there are many ways. If you use Wi-fi, a hacker could intercept it.

If your password was not too complex, they could have cracked it.

If you're on a shared hosting server, the hacker may have come in through an exploit on someone else's website and gained access to everything on the server.

So one question I would ask is where is your email hosted? (ie. gmail, or on your own domain). If it's on your own domain, you may need a security audit of the server and you'll want to change all passwords associated with your account. The problem is if the hacker has a backdoor into your account, they can come back anyway.

If your email is on gmail or other 3rd party, then you should be able to just change the password, assuming the hacker isn't intercepting everything.

          Do a complete virus/spyware scan.

Also I do ownder how you know you've been hacked.

I can't access my Ebay,Google, or Yahoo account?

Is there a way to protect from a keylogger hack?

All I have on my computer is Windows Live Care, I just got this computer?

Is that a good virus protection?

Thank you for the information eholmlund, email hacking needs to be prevented all of the time, and I'm surprised that it can happen that easily! I think I'll change my passwords right now just to be sure!

I experienced the same issue yesterday and this morning. I use a Mac. I have the IP address of the hijacker but will that be enough? I'm pretty sure I know who did it and their address. Should I just turn over the eBay transcripts and IP address with the hijacker's address in Santa Barbara to the cops?

You can use hotspot shield to protect you from hackers.
It is a free tool. Search on google for it.

Why would I download a 'free hotspot' from a place that I don't know?

Wouldn't that just be a hacker's dream? Wouldn't it just ask me for confidential information as well and I'm back to the same hacking problem?

It seems like a set up-don't take offense if you didn't intend to take me down the road of being hacked again but it seems like a bad idea to me= like you don't get something for nothing - nothing is free.
