This is some shady crap... beware product creators!

If you've launched any digital products before, you may have experienced a small portion of ass wipes that like to steal your product and post it on the blackhat forums. This is part of the product creation game and in all honestly, isn't a problem for me at all. The thieves aren't going to buy my product anyways, so who cares. Not like they will be a success.

This past product launch something really shady happened...

I received an email and a PM from a guy who told me that my product was being leaked. He even listed a lot of the forums and links that my product was being shared from. He then went on to offer to take them all down for a price (a pretty hefty price too).

I thanked him and let him know these thieves don't affect my business.

I went on with my business and told my assistant to send mediafire and the rest of the download sites a DMCA to get the content removed real quick.

Here's the shady part that she noticed... the guy who uploaded the files is the same guy that sent me an email! What a prick! Idiot used the same username on some of the media sharing sites as his email.

Keep an eye out for jerks like this. They are in every business.

This one just isn't that smart. The email address is linked to an address in Florida through one of his domains... he's lucky I'm not vengeful. I could be at his door step in 3 hours.

I've seen business plans that base themselves off of removing illegal content for you, but never seen anyone that posts the illegal content themselves... Good thing you checked it out instead of just paying him and being done with it.

Wow, that's a new one. Or is it? I've heard of reputation management companies putting out their own bad reviews of companies, then offering that company the service to remove them all for a hefty fee.

That's like mafia gangster stuff right there.

I experienced a similar situation and sent the helpdesk information about it. The blackhat buttheads will continue to do this and it's disgusting.

But I'll take responsibility for my mistake. I put a download on my server that probably didn't take the blackhat butt two seconds to figure it out. So I replaced the download link on my server with a really nice message and went with a company that controls the links.

This is why I only deliver products within the context of a membership site.

Last year someone on this forum tried to pull the exact same scam with me, telling me where my products were being shared and offered to remove them for a price.

I reported the pm and he was banned a few hours later.

man, if these folks spent as much time on a legit business as they do on scams they would have more than enough income....and they could sleep at night without fear of police knocking at the door. Or worse yet someone who they scammed out for a little payback.

Be thankful it was a dumb crook.

A good friend of mine (not an IMer) got scammed by smart ones no to long ago.

They installed malware on his internal server, which locked down his system ,except for a "Please contact customer support @ 1-800-ur-screwed" pop-up.
They proposed themselves as internet security experts, and told him they could correct the problem for 1/2 price "today only", which was $2995.00. He paid the price and sure enough his system was back online within the hour. He did some digging after the fact and found out that this was indeed a scam by a highly organized and basically untraceable perpetrators. Would have been cheaper just to replace the server, which he ended up doing anyway, mainly due to frustration, anxiety and paranoia.
