Stop Learning the Wrong Things

I've been around IM now for some time and I've seen and experienced some crazy sh*t...

Just when you think you've figured out everything the hard realization of inadequacy looks you dead in the eyes… This realization typically comes in the form of a Clickbank account with no bars, Adsense account with .03 cents in it (and what the hell is that all about?!? I mean, nothing is better than 3 damn cents!), or an EZA account with very little views and no clicks...

Then, with you already feeling like you were kicked in the area that shouldn't be kicked, you log into your favorite forum only to find some hotshot SOB telling you how much money they've made doing this or that, or the gazillion views they already have on the article they just submitted to EZA last month...

Alright, just what the hell is going on??

I'll answer this from my experience… realizing that everyone is different this may or may not apply to you...

A good long time ago I was in the mail order field, which is much like internet marketing - just no computers and too damn much postage costs...

I flip-flopped around one mail order program to another (much like the new IM'ers do today) with no results. Sure, I studied the great mail order marketers and paid very close attention to what they were offering, because hell, if they were offering it, it must be making money, so why not just copy them? This is a well known technique in the IM world as well...

So, I'd offer the same programs that others were offering and found myself going broke, while they were making a killing promoting the same stuff month after month. Sound familiar?

After a good long time I realized what I should have realized from the very beginning - my copywriting skills were complete sh*t.

And this lacking ability played against me every time I communicated with a potential customer - my ads (text or display, doesn't matter), my follow-up letters, my order form, etc. They were all junk...

I spent so much time nailing down the "system" of finding customers and getting setup with great products to offer them that I overlooked the most important part - how to communicate with them...

This is the same problem I see in IM as well. I don't care if you're writing a small Adwords ad, a 20 page sales page or even an article to submit to EZA - you need to know HOW to communicate with your prospect. I'm not talking just grammar or punctuation. You need to create excitement and enticement. Most don't...

Stop jumping around learning one marketing system to the next... if your copywriting skills are lacking, you're just spinning your wheels anyway...

Copywriting is the most important part of your campaign, yet most treat it like an afterthought. I know, some will say that the product is the most important part - I disagree wholeheartedly. I've seen great products never make a sale and complete junk sell out in record time. The difference - the copywriting!

How much effort do you spend on copywriting in your campaigns?
