How to turn my knowledge into money online?

by stlmrk
34 replies
I have a vast knowledge of bodybuilding and diet creation for bodybuilding. In fact, I have done diets for people and charge them $60 per consultation.

I've always looked for ways to get involved with internet marketing and never even linked my passion (bodybuilding and fitness) with this. What would be the best way to incorporate my knowledge of fitness into making money online?

I don't know much about IM. I know some basic concepts, but that is about it.

      Agree,

Just make sure you understand what the community wants. One problem with being good at something is that you can get blind sighted and not realize what the community wants and needs. Just visit forums and browse different places so that you can gather enough market intelligence and product ideas on what will work.

But as others have said, ebook + consultation is a good way to go.

I know that I could write an ebook, but what then? Where do I go with the ebook, who do I sell it too and how do I sell it?

Like I said, I know a little bit about IM, nothing about site creation and basically not enough to be dangerous (yet)!!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There many ways in which you could start but I'll be brief and to the point. As you already have the required expertise you're one step ahead the curve.

First let's do a basic market analyses.

    Your niche: Health
    Sub-niche: Fitness & Body building

    Feedback: It's a viable niche.

If you go to "google keyword tools" and type the word "fitness" you'll see that there are a lot of people searching for information and related niche products.

You already have some offline clients. Do you have their names, email address and phone numbers? If not I would advise you to start doing so. Create a database with your clients relevant details.

If you don't have your clients' details it's time to start gathering them (this is relevant for offline and online business).

=> Create a digital product - ebook, video instructions, MP3 instructions (or outsource it).

Then you need the following BASIC:

    * Domain name => your business address online.

    * Hosting provider => where your website will be "housed".

    * An Autoresponder => to gather names, email addresses or phone numbers and email people on your database on autopilot.

    * Tracking system => to find out how many people visit your website, which pages they visit, which links they click and so on. To give you an understand of how people behave when they vsit your website.

    * A website: which could be a blog, standard website, or squeeze page. But before you get a website try to find out which platform works better for your niche.

    * Front end product/service. Something of value that will entice your targeted demogrphic to give your their details. i.e. name, email address and so on.

    * Backend products/services. On the backend you can offer your product (s), consultancy, or other people products as an affiliate. But they need to be relevant and complement /enhance each other. I'd suggest at leat 5 backend products/services to start with.

    * Start promoting your website. You could start with people you already know. Facebook friends (but be careful how you approach it)! Write related articles (or pay someone to do it for you) and post to article banks (ezine articles is a good one). Do related videos and post them on youtube with links back to your site (or get someone to do it for you).

I hope it helps, but if you need further information feel free to pm me and I'll be more than happy to assist provided you give me a glowing testimonial / feedback

Obviously these are just the basics. You could benefit from having a mentor, reading, participating on related forums asking questions and try to put into practice what you learn...

    Have a nice day.

True build your reputation first and then people will come to you. What princecapri suggested is also important, don't just write about your thoughts, better find some body building forums and read what are most people looking forward to learn.

By the time you will have the e-book, you can create a website, add a good presentation and some details about your e-book and try to bring people who are interested on body building on it. It will not be easy when you start, but then it will start rolling.

I would (as others have said) work on creating an eBook, but beyond that you could also sell a higher ticket video course, either of you talking or doing actual exercises/explaining how to do them.

In your case I would focus on product creation then getting paid traffic through Google Adwords, with a sales page, oto, downsell, squeeze page setup. You'd only need 2 of your own products (probably the eBook as a main product, 50% off as a downsell, with a video course as an OTO), and the rest would be selling it. Then direct paid traffic to it, make sales, build a list, and you could set yourself up quite well with little to no additional work besides promoting fitness products that you already find interesting.

    1. Create an eBook about Bodybuilding
    2. Create a website for your ebook
    3. Use Clickbank to get affiliates who will promote your ebook

First, you got the most important tool - the "will" to learn. Have you tried calling for a touch-base with our product creation gurus in Warrior Forum? Visit the Warriors for Hire section and use the "Search" feature for the string "product creation." I'm sure you'll see their contact details.

Chat with them kindly. Warriors are kind and helpful, in general.
Some of these product creation gurus have been ordering their ebooks and report writing needs from me. I just don't want to reveal their strategies. Better to hear it directly from the product creation gurus.

      Mindreaderwriter,

Thanks for the insight! Strangly enough, I have a good idea of what it takes to create the product (though I will def touch base with them), it is the avenue to get it to market and all the other details that completely confuse me! Should I focus on getting an ebook nailed down and then worry about the rest?

Honestly, I may not be in the right position to give an advice as to which part of the product creation processes you should deal with first. In the entire product creation process, my role is only to write an ebook, a report, or anything that needs writing. I suggest you to contact the product creation gurus themselves.

Depending on your level of experience.. I would suggest attempting to build an authority site with your knowledge. Be aware that it's a tough niche to get into, but also very lucrative. Do careful keyword research and focus on a specific sub niche to build that authority site in... focus on nothing but content creation and solid white hat link building for a good 3 months. While building the site, do so with the intent of selling products and services further down the road. You will then have a good launching platform from which to offer your products, and furthermore an even more solid understanding of IM, your niche, and most importantly...the kind of drive it's going to take to succeed. This game isn't easy, but I was in your EXACT position just a year ago. Trained state level body builders and even competed in a few local shows myself... I knew I had valuable information to offer but that alone isn't enough. You have to have an understanding of IM too, and I hate to break it to you... but it's even more complicated than carb and sodium manipulation to shed that last pound of water weight.

          Good Luck!

P.S. If you TRULY know your stuff (I'll be able to tell) and want to make a little extra cash writing some articles.. I'm always looking for good writers. If your a trainer, I know there can be some dry spells in that industry as well.

Also, no offense to the above posters but ship the e-book crap. Fitness e-books are a dime a dozen and you don't even have the basics down yet. Build a brandable website that you will most likely fail at...but learn a ton. The upside is: as a body builder you understand that pain and discipline pay off in the end... it's just like eating tuna everyday.. it will pay off.

When I had my offline business I always preferred to hire guys from the gym... simply because I know they could commit to something they wanted bad enough even when people around them didn't quite get it. So, the absolute FIRST thing you have to do is decide HOW BAD YOU WANT IT? If the answer to that isn't "more than anything else"... forget it. Your best bet is to just go back to training and learn to use social media to out market all of the other trainers in your area... you will have a distinct advantage over them in this regard. There is no easy route in IM, regardless of how much info you have to offer. A lot of the info you read is kinda like reading the packaging of muscletech products: complete bs. It takes grind my friend. I've done both and BB is far easier.

You can convert your expertise into a course of audio, video, text, and motion sensor programs. Create a quality product, promote it on clickbank to garner affiliates, give away handsome commissions to all affiliates and special prizes for top performers.

There are already very successful bodybuilding programs on clickbank. It is a tough niche, so you have to come up with something new and fresh; something groundbreaking. Do you know something about bodybuilding which is contrary to popular opinion? Mike Geary once said that he used controversial articles which proved popular myths wrong and got a lot of success from that. You gotta listen to Geary because that is a product owner in the bodybuilding niche who makes a million dollars per month.

Donmarketer has gave you a large list of things to implement.

from what I have been reading the first thing you want to do is create a 15 page e-book with some good information in and offer it for free in exchange for name and email address and start building your list.

    then expand from there

imagine in a couple of years when you can create a new product charge $79.95 then instantly shoot an email off to 20,000 people hungry for the information that you offer because they know and trust you.

you are lucky to have something that you are so passionate about.

You nailed it, Ash. This is exactly what my clients do. They order a 15 or a 20-page ebook/report from me. That'll serve as the FREE report for list building purposes. They also order another 50 to 100-page ebook/report. The shorter one serves as a "teaser" from the 50 to 100-page ebook/report.

Some really good ideas here for you. I would get testimonials and before and after pictures from you clients. At least get some pictures of your clients with testimonials. Then create one or a series of videos and put them on Youtube. Link to your site.
Sounds like you have a lot of knowledge so put that knowledge to work: build a site with lots of good content (articles, video, etc.).
Create a kindle ebook and link to your site in it. Make sure this book is really really good because reviews make or break your ebook.
Create a coaching program and get affiliate to promote it. You can find lots of bodybuilding info product owners on clickbank. Email them and tell them you have a coaching program and tell them you have a high paying affiliate program.
Sky's the limit for you bro.

It would be pretty tough to write a broad-based guide for your entire market. So identify a segment of the market that needs and wants what you can provide. Then write an excellent plan with those people in mind. In other words, what niche within the bodybuilding market is screaming for help? Write for and then market what you've written for them. Good luck.

That is a great question! The place where people fail the most is in the kitchen. A diet will make or break you no matter what fitness goal you are trying to achieve. It is not something that comes easy or that somebody can Google and learn. You can def Google "diets" and get a bunch of ideas but hardly anybody can "dial it in" by themselves and get the results they are after.

Guess I have an answer for an ebook! Thanks for the though provoking reply!

Have you thought of freelance writing for sites such as elance or oDesk? They're ALWAYS in need of health article/body building writers! Clients post these jobs and are often forced to by people from outside of the United States with very little English, let alone body building, knowledge. If you have real skill, try it! And mention that you know about BB in your cover letter. Best of luck!

Honestly I think your best bet would be an attempt at branding yourself. I am a bit of a fitness nut myself and I owe quite a lot to my two favorite fitness bloggers. I won't post a link to their blog because I don't know if that is allowed but these two ladies have done an amazing job branding themselves and using affiliate products and email promotion.

I would create free fitness videos (short 3-8mins) where you give your expert advice and teach some moves to help build strength, lose weight etc. Post the videos to youtube and any other video sharing sites and use them to direct visitors to your website. Start a facebook page, twitter account and provide weekly workout tips, have an email opt-in list where they can receive notice of updates. Sell to your email list, use affiliate links and adsense on your site. Offer to do online video chat consults.

Just a few thoughts but the female fitness bloggers I was referring to have gained a massive following the past few years and their devoted audience buys just about everything they sell or affiliate with.

That seems like a profitable niche. But everything starts with research. First you find out demand. You can use google adwords keyword tool for that. If body building is too competitive. Try to find a subniche like "body building for asian men." Make sure there is demand. Building an ebook to get your name out and start viral marketing is a great idea.

Also I'd research by joining site build it or SBI. This is a good long term strategy. You want to win the search engines by having a website with a ton of content. While you are waiting to win with the search engines you can use ppc and promote someone else's product with an affiliate program you've tried. You'll want to use ppc to build a mailing list and hopefully make a little money.

Since you are an expert, a content rich website with lots of inbound links will give you the edge you need to gain the visitor's trust.

I'd recommend learning affiliate marketing a little before creating your own product. That way you'll know what an affiliate marketer needs in order to promote your product.

I don't know much about IM. I know some basic concepts, but that is about it.
Build a sustainable business around your fitness
knowledge. If you're good, and good at getting
other people to show results, then you can build
a following. Try to post fitness videos on youtube,
and see if they get popular. Look out for what
people want. What they secretly desire, but don't
    say, or don't know about.

I've seen a lot of people build a business like that.
Especially for fitness, you can use a lot of
"demonstration" proof. Do your content marketing
through Youtube and video sites. Build a popular
    channel. Then slowly introduce reviews,
cross-promote other Youtubers, and build a
    following.

    Brand yourself.

Or, you can even do that with a blog. However,
try to leverage high-traffic sites. In your case, it's
probably a good idea to leverage Youtube.

    Just a thought.

Always start from what people desire first, though.
Don't sell what "you want" to sell.

    Hey man,

You've got some great ideas here from some experienced warriors.

I'd build a squeeze page giving away a free report.

The report should upsell a personalised diet plan.

You could then possibly make a weightloss/ fitness training info/ video product to sell once you build a relationship with your list.

    Hope that helps!
