Awesome post on many levels, Mike. I hope those trying to get a start in this business are smart enough to read it over and over until they "get" every single point. Now that would be a great headstart for them.

I just want to comment about a few points you made to re-emphasize them. Sometimes when a post is so good, as this one is, it is easy to miss some of the good stuff.

This can't be overlooked. So many poeple are burning bridges rather than building them, I wonder if they'll ever succeed. The networking is one of the most important benefits of being a member here. Treat others well, you never know who might be a valuable ally later.

Jackpot! I've seen people try to score big and do it fast, and years later they are still trying for the quick score. In the time they have wasted trying to score the big one, they could have built a solid business. Often, the slowest way to succeed is to try to succeed all at once.

Another bulls-eye!

As you know, this has been my primary business model for 15 years. It not only pays off in the ways you cited, but it let's you build a good mailing list without even trying. I'm sure most people reading this understand how valuable that is.

Another homerun! I'd just like to add this this applies to email marketing too. Too many list owners provide a loser experience instead of a good user experience. Subscriber list fatigue, list burnout, whatever you want to call it, is caused mostly by the list owner's email strategies, or lack of having one. The fix is simple -- examine the user experience your email marketing creates.

You made a lot of other great points too, Mike. Excellent post, congrats on 10,000, and thank you for all words of wisdom over the years.

OPA!

I like how you pointed out that both business and the Internet are dynamic and change constantly - and those changes are affecting us new Internet marketers more than ever.

This alone I think is enough to throw off many newcomers but is something that definitely needs to be said. At the end of the day though, the Internet is moving towards better user experiences on the whole - and this makes people who are just getting started focus on creating quality content rather than on quantity.

I think this evolution if the net will be good for people in the long run - even if it means we have to work a little harder and persevere a little more when it comes to building our online businesses.

...we haven't always seen eye to eye over the years, probably both too strongly opinionated for our own good at times but I've always enjoyed reading your threads on the quiet and I've gained a lot from them.

So always know you're appreciated as a person. You've contributed a hell of a lot to this forum, you've put us (myself especially) straight more than a few times and truth be told, if it's advice coming from you... I look forward to similar exchanges in the future.

I'd rather have one or two of guys (and ladies) like you any day of the week over a hundred newbies that quite frankly don't know what they're talking about half the time.

It's guys like you that make the rest of us sit up up straight and think, "Hmmm he might just have a point here, what can I learn from these words?"

Thanks for being you. I for one wouldn't want to have you any other way.

Straight talking personified telling the rest of us exactly how it is. And even though I've been in business for over 31 years since I was 14 years old, pushing my cleaning equipment around the streets on an old 1970's perambulator (literally) - it's people like you that can still teach an old dog new tricks. New ways of looking at things.

Thanks for molding me and helping me at times to adjust my own attitude which admittedly has been a little colorful at the best of times. Undoubtedly at times, I needed it.

Mike, first off, congratulations on your 10K posts and on your success online. I
didn't know about your recent health issues. I'm glad you're still with us. You're
right, we've lost many good people here.

I know we've had our differences, but I couldn't be happier for what you've
accomplished, especially coming from the background that you did. I'm truly
impressed.

I hope everybody struggling really takes the time to write what you did because
it is dead on the money. In fact, if I had it to do all over again, I would be
taking your advice and just build one authority site instead of doing the things
I did the past 9 years.

But that's all water under the bridge. And as I now prepare for retirement, I
hope that others have learned from my mistakes and won't make the same
ones. I did okay, but I could have done a lot better and I know it. I spread
myself too thin and didn't take advantage of the assistance I could have
gotten from others. Oh well, you live and learn.

I wish you only the best for the future. I know this may sound really crazy,
but if you ever want to talk, I'm here. I have a lot of time on my hands these
days not working much anymore so a chat is always welcome.

I swear this forum reads my mind some days. Just when I needed a little encouragement a post like this comes along. Someone with your outlook will always have success, thanks for posting.

Hopefully you take this the right way. How much of a "Freebie" do you want? You have more nuggets in his original post that may well put more money in your pocket than you could even dream about.

I suggest you go back read the original post and take what it has to say to heart. IMO follow that advice and you will succeed.
