Optimizing Domain Name For SEO?

I've got a quick question for you SEO experts...

When choosing a domain name for a certain niche, I usually run a long-tail keyword phrase together like this example:

howtotrainyourdog.com

Or I'll put hypens in between the words like this:

how-to-train-your-dog.com

Here's my question: Do you think it would be just as effective to create a domain name using a combination of the above? For example, something like this:

howto-trainyour-dog.com

Hi, there are 2 schools of thought, some say that having a hyphen is not good for optimizing for SEO, others say that not having a hyphen or any form of truncation is good.

From my own testing on my blog network, having no truncation, ie howtotrainyourdog is better than how-to-train-your-dog. If the longtail does not exist, go for something like howtotrainyourdogfast.com.

Use dotcoms. Google loves them.

The hyphenated domain http://www.how-to-train-your-dog.com is seen by Google as- www how to train your dog com since Google treats . (dots) and - (hyphens) as a space. We say "google can parse those keywords out of the domain name". Note a domain with a single keyword (i.e www.keyword.tld) will have the single keyword recognized since Google sees the two dots (in the example above) as spaces (sees www keyword tld). So when choosing a domain name either go with a single keyword domain (like http://www.seo.com if available) or have multiple (or at least one) keyword(s) separated by hyphens (like seo-now.com).

so Google would see www.howto-trainyour-dog.com as www howto trainyour dog com.
