I would like some advice on my website and how to kickstart my mailing list. The signup page has been live for a few weeks now and nothing, nobody has signed up.

Please PM me and I will send you the website url as dont want to be seen to be advertising.

Any comments, good or bad, would be appreciated.

You need a compelling offer. You also need basic copywriting skills to convey its value.

    What works for me:

    - Ezine advertising - approach list owners with your articles so they have content to send their list
    - Solo Ads
    - Bing PPC to your opt-in landing page
    - Buy Sell Ads banner placements to your opt-in landing page
    - Facebook Fan Pages with opt-ins (dirt cheap PPC)
    - SEO for certain keywords in your niche - with a lightbox or some sort of opt-in present

Get about a thousand optins and then do some swaps (promote someone else in turn for sending them to your landing page) within your niche.

You can in my experience get into the thousands within a few weeks. What I've said isn't cheap - but it pays for itself as long as you're not a moron and provide your subscribers with compelling content.

I agree, good strategies here. It's tough to get started without spending and SEO is a huge gamble. Solos, swaps, and targeted advertising like PPC or PPV are good methods.

Build a good squeeze page with a great free product.
Drive as many traffic as you can to that squeeze page.
That's pretty much it to building a mailing list.
    Thats how I build mine.

Really depends on your marketing/advertising budget...

If you have a little money to spend, I would go with the following:
    solo ads
    press releases
pay per click (hint: more than just adwords out there)
banner ads on high-traffic sites in your market

If you are on a little tighter budget try (actually, you should do this even if you have a large budget):
    article marketing
    forum marketing
bartering with bigger marketers who have large lists

If you do paid advertising, the key is to have a front-end offer so that you can recoup a large portion of your marketing expenses. This way, you are essentially building your list for a very low dollar per lead number...which will make your business more profitable & easier to scale.

There are various ways you can go about building a list - a few of them mentioned here.
I would definitely caution against trying to buy a list (verified emails - really!) as, in my experience, this has been a complete waste of time and money.
Okay - bottom line is the hardest part is getting your list off the ground. This can be done for free without a website. Once you get it building you can employ further techniques to grow it. Putting a website together with an opt-in form and waiting for subscribers is definitely NOT the best way to go - tried it!
Give out useful information and people will naturally gravitate towards you. Be patient at the start and persevere. Make sure you know what you are going to do with your list when you get it. Make a definite plan based on experience (preferably someone else's who knows what they are doing) and stick to it.
    Don't procrastinate - start today.

People like to sign up to get something free. You have to give offer for your visitor and need to attract as well to be signed up. Or go for purchasing email list to save your time.

First of all do not buy a list. At best you will have no relationship and at worst the list is already dead and someone is just trying to make money.

I build many lists in different niches and in fact teach list building to well of course my list.
It really is not rocket science. Building the list is the easy part, learning how to look after the list is another altogether.

Im not an email marketing expert. But please dont pay for awerber for building a frebie list.

Consider buyers as 1 and freebie seekers as 0

How many zeros make a one?

Aweber is just the auto responder company they don't sell lists. Actually the frown on it and when you import mass email addresses they all have to confirm. I would bet with a bought list most confirmations will either bounce, be ignored, or reported as spam.

Think about it like this, why would anyone sell a good list that is making them money every month? They wouldn't and they have probably sold the same list many times over.

Buyers are always better but don't count freebie seekers out. I buy things and I like freebies just like most people. Freebie seekers are just buyers who haven't been convinced by you to buy yet, that's part of your job.

The best way to kick start a mailing list (and your profits) is to create a squeeze page with a free incentive to join.

If your site is about ID theft, write a short eBook or report about how to protect yourself against it and advertise it on your squeeze page.

Have some compelling copy (words that advertise) for your free offer. Put your opt-in form above the fold to increase conversions. That's how it's done - simple as that.

Build a nice squeeze page where you offer a product in exchange for there email.

buy some solo ads and get your list over 100

Start doign ad swaps with people with similar size lists/clicks. Safe-swaps is good for this.
