Sales Psychology: People Pay For Porn

Porn is free.

Porn is abundant. The Internet is full of it!

Yet... people still pay billions of dollars per year for it.

Why?

Who cares! They pay for it! Thats the point!

You are here on this forum for a reason.

Stop thinking about wether or not someone will buy your product or not.

Stop contemplating if your service is good enough.

And stop doubting yourself and your abilities.

There are 7 Billion people on the planet and some of them will actually buy your stuff if you offer it to them! They will literally give you money for your stuff! Do you understand how powerful that is?

I dont know about you but I actually buy bottled water from time to time. Yet I have it virtually free from my taps 24/7! OK maybe not 100% free, but just about free!

And if I really wanted I could make it free by leaving buckets outside when it rains and then filtering the water.

The same goes for dirt, sand, and stone. I know i've gone out and paid good money for friggin dirt before!

We live in an abundant Universe. Never forget that and never think for one second that you cant make money.

Hope this helps someone.

  • People are definitely buying all kinds of stuff. I just need to find out what to sell to get revenue daily. It's very sporadic for me right now.

  • Great point Andrei...sometimes consumer purchasing decisions don't entirely make sense, but as long as you are offering value in a market with a big enough demand (whatever that market might be) then you can certainly carve out a small slice of the pie for yourself.

A lot of people tend to think "there is already so much information out there." It's true, but there is always room for another player in any market, if you know what you are doing and have good products to back it up!

  • Hey this definitely made my day! haha..
    Thanks for sharing this.
You are right that we live in a world of abundance
and that we should just stop worrying.

    • Even worse people have to pay for air at the gas station to put in their tires in the US (btw air is free here in Jamaica)

But I do agree with you that people will buy your stuff. However, I do want to add that people still need to go the extra mile to offer an excellent product that not only meet the requirements of customers but exceeds their expectations.

So don't just put out a product because people will buy, but put out a top notch product that people will love and appreciate.

  • Well actually, there is a science behind why people buy porn.

People that become addicted to porn constantly need to view different kinds of porn to satisfy their needs. It is human nature to mate with a variety of partners to pass off your DNA, so when you are watching porn you've constantly got to have new material to satisfy your needs as you become desensitized to the typical stuff. Eventually it gets to the point where normal porn doesn't satisfy you anymore, and that's when people start taking interest to weird niche angles and they start paying for very specific porn.

    • This may be more about porn than I need to know...at least on a marketing forum.

  • The reason people pay for porn, air, dirt, water is for the convenience - it's no mystery. The desire for a convenient solution is almost always the reason something you wouldn't expect to sell sells.

  • Thank you for your post, this can give encourage to many people who are thinking either to create their own product or someones' else which is more popular.

I didn't realized that there are so many free items and we still pay to buy them...
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Wow that was well put and a great analogy
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Yes. they will. But very much depends on the serving, in other words marketing.

What I mean by that? Here is a personal story.

I had an aversion from eating octopus before. When I saw them on the fish-market living and twisting theirs arms, I thought them disgusting and turned away from them.

One day we went to dinner with a familiar couple. The restaurant was small but friendly. We felt fine fragrance in the air. The couple winked to the waiter together and ordered the dinner.

It seemed to me, we didn't have long to wait. The waiter brought us all the same. The food on the plate looked wonderfully, and were decorated with vegetables tastefully. I ate the whole dose, it was very fine.

They let the cat out of the bag in the end: we all got octopus. Haha... You know what? I'll eat it at other times if occasion will arise.

In business language, all marketing elements were available to me on customer satisfaction.

This was a reason I say, your success much depends on your marketing.

    All the best,

    Sandor

  • I think in a very clear and demonstrative way it proves the law of reciprocity. Even though porn on the Internet is abundant and in all honesty all over the place. People will continue to pay for it either out of a sense of evening the scale, or to get access to very specific niche kinds of porn.

Another aspect of the paid porn industry, is the community and niche forums that these paid membership sites offer. So I think a good example we could take from this industry is the idea that you could sell a very common product and get paid for it as long as you create a sense of community and belonging around the product which you are selling.

I think you picked a good subject matter for discussion my friend, and look forward to hearing some more your insights.

      - nice analogy though. And a money saver too!
  • Thank you for this post!

I'll have to write a follow up email to my subscribers with this example as motivation for them to just get out there and do stuff!

    Once again thanks!

  • lol

Sex sells - it's something that'll never end
any time soon. It's freaking damn profitable
actually, it's full of over-the-moon, rabid
buyers that gulp down subscriptions by the
gazillions. It dominates a huge portion of
    web traffic.

But I don't want to leverage the adult
industry because it goes against my ideals
and principles. I'm pretty much a
    principle-driven person lol

However, I've seen for myself that other
marketers are grabbing shovels of cash
    from these markets...

The market gaps remain really huge.

Back to the first post... I think the next
    question to ask is...

How much money can you make?

Because the world's unequal - not
everything under the Sun sells for the same
    price.

  • Hey Andrei,

    Great point there.

One thing to keep in mind though is whether someone will buy or not is a big issue.

If there is no demand for what you are creating/ providing then why do it?

I know what you are saying, and it's a very liberating point.

Sometimes we over analyse, and instead of taking action we continue to contemplate.

Sometimes you just need to do it and see what happens.

    There's massive learning in "failure".

    Hope this helps!
