How Do You Email Your List? Are You A Mailer, Protector Or Idiot?

Mailer? - mails offers all the time to maximize immediate profit

Protector? - builds relationships and only sends very select offers

Idiot? - builds a list but doesn't mail at all lol uh :confused::confused:

What's your email marketing style and if you don't mind sharing, what results have you gotten using your style?

It really does depend, I would consider myself to be more of a protector then a mailer but I'm not above it. I think if you tailor your voice to your audience and only offer stuff that is specifically cater to the niche in which the list is accustomed to reading about, it really doesn't matter that much how often you send off a offer e-mail.

The law of reciprocity comes out big here, as if you accustomed your list to receiving very cool things on a continual basis, then it really doesn't matter if you send an offer every few days or so. Your list will be accustomed to opening up e-mails with great free content that you have provided with no expectation of a return, so when you present your offers to them it's no real biggie.

Now that's my opinion my friend, and I'm sticking to it :p

LOL, Id have to say I know a few people in the idiot category. It always surprises me how many people think they have to build their list to 100 opt ins before they can start mailing.

For myself I fall between the Protector and mailer

I'm a mailer. When I try to be a protector, emails don't get open and click rate goes down. True story. What are you OP?

with certain lists i am a mailer.

with other lists i am a protector. Honestly, this is where most of my money comes from.

I do have a couple lists where i am an idiot. True story, i setup one little system in a rather small niche. I had an optin and a free viral report. I set things up using a different AR service than i normally use.

I checked that site religiously for a couple weeks and had nothing happening. I gave up and forgot about for several months. Then i noticed a bill from the AR company for over $100. it should have been under $20. So i login and had 12,000 subscribers from that report...lol.

i tried to get them active again, but it didn't work out to well.

I am a protector but slowly adapting some traits of a mailer.
I was too obsessed with building relationships that I became
    too scared to sell.
What works for me now is to mail offers often while at the same
time keeping my emails full of value& stories to build relationships.

    A mixture of all 3.

You just need to be yourself. Sometimes you have nothing to say, and other days you want to send about 5 messagesa s you find lots of awesome products all being released on the same day as you've posted a blog update.

I had to scroll fast down to the bottom of this page so I didn't let anyone else's response enter my head until I replied. I wanted to give you an honest response without being tempted to chime in on all the rest. This is what I do and why.

I have asked, asked, and asked many times for my list to buy from me and eventually they STOP... buying that is. The reason is I have learned that you have to give before you can get.

I started teaching, training and helping others so as to develop a following and trust. Then I ONLY send out selective information and very inexpensive stuff. Not only has my responses increased on CTR and opens but my following stays with me longer and converts even better. This gives both my subscribers and myself peace of mind that we will each be there for one another.

    Cheers,

    I'm a "Protector"
    • Typically a 7-10 email series when someone first signs up.
    • Then broadcast only 1-2 times per month.

...but I'm also a Vendor, so I don't necessarily need to make weekly sales from my list.

(Things were different when 100% of my income was from affiliate promotions)

I have to confess I am an idiot. I have several small lists and never email them. No idea why, but that is the truth.

    Gotta change those nasty habits...

    I'm a Protector...
My list looks to me as a sort of "niche newscaster", sending them high quality niche-related events, offers, and worthwhile media. I don't market as an affiliate, just my own products.
I have found this method gets much better open rates than when I tried to do daily or weekly newsletter style mailings. I think it makes my emails more enticing to the list because they are less frequent and have something "worth" sharing inside.

I do tend to be a little more frequent before a launch, however... ;-)

I think having a mix of mailer and protector is the right way to do it. From my own experience, I really dislike getting sent hard sell sales messages day after day. It makes you think the sender is out to make money off you above giving you value.

On the other hand, providing too much free value and no seeking any kind of compensation (through your affiliate commissions) seems like a bad idea. Why put in all that time creating the free offers if you are not going to see anything back in the long run?

I think that it's a great thing to provide your subscribers with an abundance of free value, but at the same time you should get something in return at some point.
