build a high quality authority site and get it ranking for several terms. That's long term passive income.

I might buy a years supply of dehydrated food. I might use it to pay a months salary for a developer. I might use it to cover a fraction of my monthly operating costs. I might invest it in an ad campaign. I might use it to retain a marketing consultant. I might use it to file a lawsuit or retain a lawyer. I might use it to buy a car. I might use it to create a new intern position. I might use it to fund development of a mobile app. I might use it to expand hosting infrastructure. I might use it to hire a nanny or house keeper...

Do you care to be more specific so we can offer advice that applies to what YOU might do?

I see your point. The thing is, I don't know, I have absoloutly no idea what I would do. I currently have almost no money to invest into IM. I think I am on the right course creating a WSO, but I'm just going with the flow.

I have no definitive plan with what I want to do, and I really need help. Hope this answers your question

In all honesty though, if I had a "spare" $10K just laying around like a Clickbank Guru or a WSO Baron, I'd probably get a new computer and go back to school! Learn to program and save a cropload on outsourcing.

Having your own products and services is an easier and faster route to the money and provides you a business with true equity.

Your startup budget for economy hosting, ecommerce, and email is $200 a month but you will have the right tools from the start which is important so you don't have to worry about tech and can focus on what really matters which is publishing, relationship building, and product development.

Stick to using the blog for basic publishing. Do NOT get into buying and installing all sorts or scripts or trying to force the blog to be the membership. Use a hosted solution for that so you don't have to manage IT, security, script updates etc. your goal is money making activities.

You can invest a lot of sweat equity but also you will need to invest some in HTML and CSS based web design if you do not have those skills. Don't obsess about graphics based design. Light on graphics focus instead on the basics HTML and CSS. Remember it's your content, products, and services that impress... Not thousands wasted in heavy pictures and logos and it's sales copy, content, trust and affiliates that sell.

The first product I created years ago netted $17k in 24 hours. That was with one email to a small list of people who were interested in what I was developing and I had built that list through social interaction on the web... This was back in the early 2000's and I made it with one email, one teleseminar, no affiliates, no prelaunch, and only 12 hours notice. The product was under $100.

The good news is that it's easier than ever to reach audiences now due to the explosion in social networks, YouTube, podcasting, and blogging. Then you have the warrior forum and affiliates :-)

So yeah you could nickle and dime it and try to compete with everyone as an affiliate only marketer struggling with SEO and advertising...

Or you could create a brand and an empire.
Wow, pretty detailed. I think you hit the nail on the head. I think the important thing is creating a sales funnel as thats where you make the real money.

Just out of interest what is Nanacast and business centralization, not too familiar with that area.

It's the ecommerce automation, sales funnel, billing and subscriber management, affiliate management, and content delivery part of the equation all centralized and hosted so you can focus on what makes you money instead of managing IT. Nanacast is the platform I developed to solve those problems for my own publishing which we offer as a service :-)

Humm $10000 I would get a few pieces of automation software to help with my sites. I would have one or two authority sites that I can hold onto for the long term. Not sure what niche but I would outsource the content creations and make it look very good - quality images, customized.

I would try my hand at some paid search for some cpa offers, buy some cyber real estate for ads.

A few other things would also be in their as well.

And after all that I would still have a lot left over.

If my choices were limited to deciding how to best invest it I would say invest half into business and half into old debts. Or, half into business, and a quarter towards old debts and a quarter to personal family charities or to good causes.

Putting more capital into your business -- well, not yours, you apparently don't have one yet -- will not necessarily make you more money.

Putting $10,000 into starting your business will not necessarily make you any money.

Well, no I'm not trying to steal the 'winning formula' just seeing what you would do.

And when you say "We" you mean you included. What's your success in the IM world that makes you worthy to brag about the fact you know this 'winning formula'?
        {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[6399477].message }}
        • Well, no I'm not trying to steal the 'winning formula' just seeing what you would do.

I'm thinking that cruise looks pretty good. 21 days, lots of ocean. Flying fish. Very cool.

And when you say "We" you mean you included. What's your success in the IM world that makes you worthy to brag about the fact you know this 'winning formula'?

          I'll keep this simple:

Money will not help you, except now and then for an incidental item.

You need a proven business model. You can't buy it, you have to live it and work it. You are the engine that makes things happen, not money.

Somebody's going to say, "Whaddaya mean you can't buy it? For $10,000 you can buy a website that already makes money." And that is true.

But websites aren't perpetual motion machines. You have to know how and why it makes money, figure out how to maintain it and come up with a solid plan to keep it growing.

I was talking to a guy the other day who sold one of his sites for $70,000 a couple of years ago. This was in the self-improvement/empowerment niche. Where is it now? Not much traffic and few sales. Because the buyer thought the hard part was writing the $70,000 check.

No, you need a proven business model. What's more, you have to be the one who develops and proves it. You can't use anyone else's. Ideally you harness your own unique skills and experience -- none of this trying to teach people how to make money in IM if you've never made money in IM. People see through that instantly.

I was joking about a winning formula, of course. Everybody thinks there is one, but the real irony is that you already have it in bits and pieces in your brain.

fLufF (I hope I got the capitals correct), that is so true! There is no need for the $10k question when you have the answers tucked away already.

All those posts, all those sales letters, all those WSO's... it's all there! Unfortunately there is no magic button to press when you wanna put it into action!

But to answer the question, $10k = a beat up car, and a very long road trip covering all the Man v Food eateries.

            With extra fries.

I would invest 30% to building a list in a given niche of choice. I would use 30% to build a site that ranks for a few targeted keywords and I would use the remainder to advertise the site. The site would be monetized with affiliate products and then I would eventually get into creating my own products in that niche.

Make sure it's a niche that you are interested or passionate about.

    The fluff is right.

No one that has a working model is going to share it with you and make more competition for themselves.

    This thread is stupid.

You need to save like $8k and spend 3 months reading and educating yourself and another 3 months testing out those things you found to be interesting. Then you need to pick a niche field and become an expert in there, and only then do you scale up with the rest of the money.

Personally, I would use the money to make a tool and advertise my new service and test out 1 or 2 methods.

Invest it! I'd probably put it into a Bank On Yourself plan, which Pamela Yellen talks about in her book by the same title. You can also visit her website for more info at bankonyourself.com. That way in the future when you need to borrow money you can borrow from yourself instead of going through a bank or institution. And instead of paying the bank back with interest just pay yourself back instead.

I would spend the money developing some custom websites for some e-books and online products I've been thinking about, as well as hiring freelancers to help with research and formatting. Then whatever is leftover I'd push for marketing, advertising, and testing to really try to promote that early brand.

I will have $10,000 by mid-August and I will do this by reaching 15 million people at once.

Quite frankly - I wouldn't change much, if anything.. I'd probably just set it at the bank and continue to do business as usual $10k is nice to have, but it's not life changing.

Ok - I'll probably take my gf out to dinner, but that's about it

If you have $10k you should be to the point where you have a funnel created that is profitable. Because I've done media buys I know $10k is nothing. Well that's precisely would I would do with $10k is perfect media buying to my funnel.

$10k with a media buy and testing your way to perfection would double your money very quickly, and with $10k you should be able to double your money if your funnel is set-up or until you tweak it until you know it converts.

Now with $20k? Double your media buying again and then look to save some. If every cent you put in doubles your money why stop?

What you have to understand is that if you have a converting offer the last thing you want to do is let it sit there, you just push it to the limits.

This is a question I often ask myself. Ive come to the conclusion that I would put it towards setting up an online book makers. It has to be the easiest income possible once you are established.

Or maybe buy a website I was passionate about and monetise it through affiliates and products

I'll buy some websites that are already producing monthly income, which should recoup my investment in about 10 months or so on average. Thereafter, I've converted that $10k into a steady monthly income.

Invest some into starting something positive and constructive that will give you a longer term income.
Doesn't necessarily have to be IM related. Might be a solid asset which you can rent out or sell on for a profit in years to come.

eg - you might buy an expensive piece of recording equipment that the average person couldn't afford as a one off. You can then rent it out time and time again to recoup your investment. Like a fancy video camera (all bells and whistles) for $1000 - you rent it out for $50 a week. 20 weeks later you have recouped your investment and everything else is additional for you.
(of course a video cam is just an example)

Have fun with it and do something you enjoy for maximum benefits!!

I'm answering this question as if I was a beginner:
I would have a nice website built and then register to a few freelancing sites (with a big focus on Elance) and start freelancing in a niche of my choice and skill level.

If you are new to the online money-making world, very few ppl succeed when diving right into things like affiliate marketing. The best, easiest and more surefire way to many money online when starting out is freelancing. And you can freelance with just about any skill...you just need to know more than the majority of the population and that's really easy.
Take that 10k and turn it into much, much more. Thennn you'll have enough play money!
$10k today is worth nothing. Take it and turn it into something much bigger!

And don't forget to use $1-$2k and do something that makes you happy!

1K goes to vacation with the lady for a week. 200 goes to various nice places to eat. 5K goes to savings. The remaining I'll put in IM stuffs (automation software, VA, PPC ads).

Although I would imagine I would just spend my time crafting my PPC so most of that remaining money would be focusing on that.

  • With $10k, if someone just gave it to me.

I'd say thanks. Spend $1,000 on myself (whether it's playing computer games, renting a nice convertible for the weekend, etc), then figure out how to intelligently invest most of the rest of it in my business.
