iMac update - I bought it.

Ok Apple just updated their iMac line-up with some new prices and memory improvements. I have been looking to buy one for several months now, and because of this update, my patience has paid off!

Anyway, I haven't had a mac in nearly 15 years and this is the software I am thinking of getting:

Screenflow
Keynote
Final Cut Express
MacSpeech

iwork09 (comes with it actually)

Am I missing something in terms of IM tools?

IShowU HD would be the equivalent of camtasia for a Mac I believe. I have also heard some amazing things about MacSpeech Dictate, I think it uses the same engine as Dragon.

Edit: IShowU is no longer a free product so stick with screenflow.

LittleSnapper (paid) is my latest favorite tool - I use it to capture and annotate my swipe file, take screen shots etc etc. It does what it does brilliantly. Demo is free to download afaik

DevonThink Pro (paid) is a superb tool for organizing your documents (txt, pdf etc). It's indispensible for me.

As you're making screen videos, mouseposé is a great little tool to highlight the mouse, visualize actions etc.

Coda (paid) is a great editor for html / css etc.

Rage Software have a few SEO tools that are quite good, but this is one area I think PCs have an advantage.

I use NetNewsWire (free) as my newsreader, Cyberduck (donationware) as my FTP client, Jing (free) is a decent free screen capture tool from the makers of Camtasia, Chronosync for syncing files and backups etc.

On the hardware front, I strongly recommend Drobo for backing up your system. It's the best, most secure backup system that I'm aware of.

BTW Camtasia is due out on the Mac in a few months. It's out with beta testers now, I believe.

Enjoy your new toy! PM me if you need more info or help.

I've got last years version of the iMac. It comes with iWork, but it's a trial version which requires payment after 30 days, and worth every penny.

      Screenflow
      Keynote
      Final Cut Express
      MacSpeech

You're off to a good start there.

You might want to consider some version of photoshop as well.

I got the MacSpeech dictate as a gift and I LOVE it. I hate writing - it is a great help.

Not sure what you're planning with the final cut express - unless you're looking to import some hefty video.

You can import keynote into screenflow for example and edit there. You'll have the camera on the imac and can record yourself as well as the screenshots with screenflow.

I'm a HUGE fan of iWork. I've designed full products, graphics, and layouts without needing to fire open Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign. Totally worth the money!

Mac people are just too cool!

I've got a MacBook and it came with iMovieHD. I picked up iShowU for something like $29 and it works like a charm for screen capture stuff. I do my screen capture stuff and dump it into iMovieHD where you can add titles and special effects. I love it.
