How do you explain to people?

I have been wondering why so many people think that this business will be done for them? Most seem to believe when they come here that they are entitled to some sort of magic button or some do it all for you super mentor.

They want a business that generates massive amounts of cash yet think all they need to spend is $39. I read that one guy said a free product was falsely advertised as being free because it called for hosting and an autoresponder..... What the hell? That could very well have been his meal ticket opp and he said it wasn't free because it had tool costs.

Why does everyone believe this? I am a parent and I tell my boys that the only way to succeed is to try and to fail. You learn by your failure. People seem to believe that their million dollar meal ticket is inside the next product they buy yet when they get it they realize they will have to work for it and put down some more money they run away screaming scammer. All they had to get was a domain to make this magic pill work.

Business takes money and time. Success and failure. If I told you that I would give you a million dollars for a small $10,000 investment and you must also complete 25 simple tasks would you do it?

Sadly I think most people would ask for their 10k back at task 22.

It is like traffic. People all want free traffic but when they find out they need to work way harder for it they say it won't work and then they keep whining about how hard it is to get free traffic. Article marketing is the king of this example.

For this, I commend you. I was taught just the opposite...my father taught me that every mistake was to be punished and chastised and failure was not to even be considered. It's take me 15 years as an adult to overcome this.

Your boys are very lucky to have a father like you.

Well, the only way to convince people is to be in the position of an authority. If you have been there, done that, then you can easily convince people what works what don't works.

We are all lazy people. We want things fast, we want convenience so you can't blame them for searching high and low for that magic button. Having said that, those in this field long enough will know that it doesn't happen and we have to work HARD as well as SMART.

Unfortunately, so much people doing this. Give up in just inches away from success...
“Life's real failure is when you do not realize how close you were to success when you gave up.”

    They give up to soon...
They see failure as the end of the road. They said "I've failed...". and stop walking, stop trying.

Failure is actually a steps to success, not the end of the road. If we keep trying, we will never fail

I almost gave up. I had to sit there in bankruptcy court, feeling absolutely humiliated, before I finally decided to do something about it. Taking action is the only way to make any progress.

I am glad I did not give up.

    Fight On,

I used to believe that buying a $39 ebook could change my life.
    But it didn't.. Haha..
I had to take tons of massive action to achieve my goals.
Not forgetting the mistakes I made along the way.
It's been an awesome journey & I hope to make more mistakes
In the future so as to progress faster.

      Great post OP.

Being sucessful is about not giving up and not listening to people who say you will fail. (Most of them being scared to even try).

My dear departed Dad was a WW2 pilot. He reckoned every landing you walked away from was a good one! He never discouraged me from trying anything.....ever. But he was there to catch me if I fell..........

Dave - Glad to hear you didn't give up. I've been in a similar situation and had a "wake up call" myself.

Mushin - Good for you. So many people think there is a Magic Bullet system (and hell our community even promote products as such, so who can blame them). It does take real effort. Knowledge is the tool (the shovel)... but is useless if not used (can't dig a hole unless you actually USE the shovel).

Its simple really...I dont. ALthough I told one of my friends that I deal with Global tranfer and arbitrage, yeah it is tough to explain them. A simple designer or artist will suffice.

I'ts really the times we live in. The world moves fast, and people are trained to want things now. Nobody likes to wait. I'm guilty of this too. Whenever I enter into something that requires a lot of work, I want to see the results immediately. And most of the time it ends up taking much longer than I expected or wanted.

The difference is, that I have the inability to quit at something that I've set my mind too... even if I try. So I continue until its successful or until I'm confident that it will never be successful.

I think that's what separates the people who are here for 5min, and the people that are in it for the long run. Because at the end of the day, when your short on cash, theirs not one person among us that wouldn't gladly accept a push button solution that worked.

Couldn't agree more with this, people whine and moan about how they spent $7 on a WSO, or $37 on another product but never got anything out of it in maybe a day, or a week after 'taking action'. I mean, you can't really expect to lift your business off the ground like that in such a little time-frame.

Like you said, business' take time, money and failure to grow.

Another thing that gets to me is, when people talk like:

"I've spent $1K on info products, why am I not making money?"

It's not hard to realise that with IM - just like in the real world - education will only take you so far. You need to take action.

What use is all the learning if you can't apply it to anything? That's like graduating college with a degree, but when you can finally get a job with the degree, you don't take it, you start looking for another job.

Like spending a month learning list-building, but instead of building a list, you try your hand at web-design and SEO.

It took me a long time to realise that, but as soon as I did things only went upward.

  • Hi Bilkat19. In my experience, this works most of the time:

Showing them real life stories of disadvantaged people who don't just sit around and wait for some miraculous magic button product, but rather know nothing else than to work hard and invest their time or money or a combination of both, for formulating innovative ideas and implementing thoughtful plans, all to:

    (1) Blaze new trails and find new routes to their dreams;
    (2) Improve the overall quality of their lives and the future of their families; and
    (3) Fortify the sustainability of their successes...

    • One such real life story is that of Jon Morrow...
    • A lot of profit and non-profit organizations here and in other Asian countries that support the welfare of people with disabilities also frequently use my real life story below to inspire and motivate people with disabilities:

The two stories above have so far produced excellent results in the lives of people I know and their social and professional networks, as well as in the lives of people with disabilities supported by the profit and non-profit organizations I've worked with since 2006...

I was (un)lucky enough to have my failures real early on in this business but had enough determination (or stupidity according to some) to keep pushing forward and trying different things until I found the thing that fits with me and makes me enough money to be happy without wanting the world

I also agree that we should learn from our failures. It is difficult to overcome a big mistake but you will learn from it and you will get more knowledge to avoid such mistakes. I am sure that after some failures I becoming stronger.

JaRyCu, it's bad to afraid of doing something wrong, people are not perfect if they was they would be Gods. 15 years are many, I am happy that you now can accept that you can make mistakes.

[...]Sadly I think most people would ask for their 10k back at task 22.
I have gave up a diploma just a few months before the exam. I still believe that I could do it even if that wasn't the best timing for me. Never give up, you can more that you believe you are able to.

There is no success till you work really hard. I was doing some kind of business which slacked for 1.5 years and since I never gave up and kept working on it, I finally had a success and it is still a success even after several years passed by. One cannot achieve success without REALLY working towards it.

This is my favorite quote from Batman Begins.

Thomas Wayne: And why do we fall, Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.
It sums up an essential lesson everybody needs to learn about life as well as marketing. It is not our successes that makes us who we are; it is our failures!
