You will pay to surf the Internet - No longer Free.

Warriors,

Like SOPA, we are still reading on the search engines that the UN - United Nations may regulate the Internet and we may have to start paying to just surf.

Has anyone heard more on this or would like to shed some light. Should we be ready for this?

Don't you pay an ISP to surf already? Unless you work solely from Internet cafes of course...

UN cannot do anything without country's goverments. In other words, no matter what they pass, each government would have to ratify it.

I wouldn't be too confident about this one. They can do what they want when the world's governments are more than willing to jump to the tune.

UN resolutions typically mean nothing, because they are non-binding, unless it is from Security Council.
Government, that wants to implement this can - and will - do it without UN. And the ones that do not want to implement it, can't care less about what UN votes on.
So, be afraid what your government is doing, and not what UN wants.

Again, if the world's governments decide to play ball, the UN will be in charge. I think you're assuming that the UN is there for decoration or something. That organization is more powerful than you're giving it credit.

If the government decides to play ball... That's exactly that. They will try to play ball with things they like, and won't play with things they don't like (and it won't matter whether the idea comes from UN, or you or me).

And UN does not have real power. They do not create laws for your country - your government does. UN relies fully on member support, both financially and politically.

I believe that our governments will play ball. They've already proven that they want to put the clamps down by trying to push SOPA and people finally stood up and were able to put a stop to it.

When you say the UN doesn't create laws for your specific country, I'd agree and say that's true. I just don't trust my country in terms of the laws they want to create. They also have UN reps or members. To me that means the UN has power albeit indirect.

Again, what's the point of the UN if they can't do or influence anything? Someone thinks they have sort of purpose for being there. I mean they're meeting at the end of this year to discuss regulating the internet... It seems like they're moving merrily along with their business.

That's the key phrase here - The UN can't force their edicts on countries, but in countries like US, politicians are leaning more and more towards binding themselves to the UN's 'advice' - ie: using decisions handed down by the UN as 'guidance' for court decisions made in US cases (this has happened more than once).

The UN has all of the power that our governments let them have - and we can't really trust our governments not to hand control over to them, if the political winds dictate...

    @JEasy,

Now that was an intelligent statement. Thanks for that. Yes, a lot of people get way too confident and set in their ways. I often wonder how much money they are bringing in as some have nothing to lose. Yes, the world is changing and I am watching it change like you are. I ONLY wanted a perspective like an insiders focus group and how to be prepared and what we should be aware of instead of mindless chatter.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I'd have to see more to say if I think Lance's prediction is likely to come true. I doubt it, for reasons that have more to do with the history of such stories, but things change.

That said, don't assume that various governments couldn't impose additional taxes on Internet access. They could, and almost certainly will at some point.

I have to find the other source I had buried in my email. I planned on revisiting this topic and more research but before I did I also wanted feedback from all of you. We are all the eyes and ears around here to what is happening online. I don't know what will happen but the discussions keep coming up. Kinda feels like countries wan to start their own Internet Tribes and be exclusive from some of the things I have heard. Less traffic for you and I.

I will look for some of those other reads but for now this was one I have received. Again, not sure how valid this 411 is. prophecynewswatch.com/2012/June05/054.html

    @JEasy,

You are right. They are way more powerful then those give credit. But if I want to be like most people I would just keep saying, "This and that will never happen" then one day we wake up to a surprise or are unprepared. One thing that I STRONGLY DISAGREE with is most people's disregard for the unknown and with NO plan or preparation. Now this statement goes out for ALL things. The military has to go out and prepare and assume ALL things could happen and this is how we should live as well.

Kinda like saying your spouse will always be with you and never go out on you. Ya... OK. We hope not, and it is likely not, but unfortunately it could happen.

My apologies to anyone that has had to go through that.

    OK, great insight here.

Funny, I was just going to request you do the same thing. You see, with a thread title like this:
You will pay to surf the Internet - No longer Free.
You imply that you don't pay for Internet at all. By not thinking thingsthrough when creating your thread title, you left yourself open to what was a completely legitimate question by me at the opening of the thread. Now you've wasted your time trying to get your rhetoric straight while I've amused myself responding.

See how you could have saved yourself there ?

You were just given free advice to step up your own posting game and to ensure that your meaning is not lost with poor wording. I'd be a bit more careful before you claim someone needs to "step it up". If you like we can compare and contrast our posts and see who is more productive. Our fearless leader (USA) is seriously considering this stupid treaty of the UN. Along with a couple of others that will submit us to UN control. One of them would have us give up about half (I think) of our oil receipts to the UN.

Anyone who lives in the USA needs to contact their two Senators and express your displeasure about these treaties and how you don't support them.

If these treaties are ratified, they are just the same as an amendment to the Constitution. With one difference, these treaties can't be canceled from what I understand.

With all due respect Warrior2008 I fail to see what Joe did exactly to warrant a Breaking WSO Rules infraction. Considering this isn't a WSO but more to the point of what Joe did in your view.

He was simply replying to your many posts which you responded to others, with questions to clarify things.

I don't see no harm in that. I could be wrong but from what I've read so far I have not seen any kind of infraction at all.

      Mike Hill

For the record Joe has 3 infractions (2 before you gave him one) 2 of them have been reversed. I too have a few infractions from a scrupulous spammer on the forum a few years ago who was playing games and giving everyone infractions. The point is we cannot make all our judgements from infractions alone, so why even mention it?

        Mike,

I can appreciate your statement but it was explained and he keep it up. Now, you may have posted this prior to his last icon face but that there my friend shows intent to keep things going and to show intent to thread hijack so it really sets the stage for you and I or any other person here. Plus I have received several PM's from him and this my friend is what you don';t know. If you have that type of behavior then you deserve 1 infraction at a bare minimum and you should know this.

Thanks for you feedback Mike but let's get back on topic. This has to stop on these threads. His final post with the face icon should show the intent.

If you would just ignore him, the "problem" (as you see it) would most likely disappear. Simple solution really...

(I also agree with Mike; the infraction was inappropriate - as was publicly stating that he had others as well...)

Your thread was not hijacked by me. As Mike pointed out, I asked a relevant question in the beginning and you continuously brought the conversation further off topic, especially when claiming that I need to "start thinking." You brought this conversation to where it is now, as you keep initiating and elevating the back and forth.

I'm merely responding in kind. I'd expect higher from an "Officer of the United States Navy."

The smiley face does not show intent of any kind, feel free to try and prove that case. Really, it shows my amusement at what you are spewing about me on this thread. If I had intent, I would have taken the things I'm now telling you through PM and posted them up right here. Instead, I have kept things in PM's. Your responses keep prompting mine, so if you want the conversation to get back on track how about quit whining about me and talk about the topic at hand ?

We are also considering giving up our second amendment rights with this nonsense; 3 Reasons Why the U.S. Should Not Even Consider the U.N. Arms Treaty | myHeritage

I know that has nothing to do with IM, but these two are just a couple we are considering. And our Se. of State and Obama are in favor of them. There will be no going back if they are successful in approving them.

No matter what country you reside in, if your country signs on to these treaties, you will give up your sovereignty also. I don't know who thought up this nonsense, but my guess is that the poor nations want the wealth redistributed. Which our current administration is all for. As if we don't help other nations enough.

You have to tell your Senators this doesn't fly. And if you don't live in the USA, then your representatives need to know the same.

Yeah you got that right Tim and from my experience with the UN back in Croatia in 1992 I say it's about time to be honest. It wasn't until NATO took over the mission in Bosnia did anything get done. We had no other choice but to sit tight and watch atrocities happen because of our ROE's.

NATO doesn't mess around and their ROE's are a lot more open.

Getting back on topic, I think the UN is failing big time especially all of the things prior they voted in that made absolutely no sense. It's starting to look like the UN is nothing more than a cover for NWO when you take a look at who has chairs on the committee and who doesn't

I think we need to understand how a free market works and then study the structure of an internet network (or computer network).

The result is that anyone can provide a workaround solution using their own technologies to solve any restrictions imposed by legislation. Building a private internet is not that difficult. Research what Google is doing with fiber optics expansion. Consider what Elon Musk's SpaceX may ship to space (re: satellites for internet). The private sector could provide internet to the public even if it means incorporating in undeveloped nations that are neglected by the U.N. and conversely are indifferent to foreign affairs.

If you think technical restrictions can be imposed by a government, study how much time and resources were invested by the PRC with their Great FireWall. As if any nation would go that extent besides China or another single-party state.

Lastly, consider how much influence telecommunication companies have over Congress via lobbyist.

The internet will not be affected even marginally by any governing body based on current trends and available evidence.

I agree with Mike regarding the infraction against Joe.

Not only do I not see anything wrong with his posts, but I see what reminds me of a schoolyard kid telling some other kid they can't play because he didn't like what the other kid said or did.

Sorry, but it seems as though you are trying to govern who posts in your thread and Paul Meyers spoke about this in a thread where someone wanted to moderate their started threads by having the power to remove posts they didn't want in it.

    Great Feedback Tim and Mike.

There is a sense of cannibalism out there in the world meaning with so much change and
technology it makes us all wonder if it may all start to back fire. There is so much happening because of the Internet and technology. Lots of great things but with the good there also come the bad.

Yeah that's certainly true... I can understand National concern when it comes to this sort of thing but they always go to far. Also, the fact that everything that is profitable the Government creates a law making it illegal for others to sell it then turns around and creates a Monopoly for themselves.

Government is always looking for more cash because they cannot manage what they have in the first place unless they stop lining their own pockets.

        Yes, true, very.

I just think that others are still unaware of some of these great changes that we see may be on the brink.

No more thread hijacking, you have been asked already. Move on. Countless people are weighing in and it is becoming a great resource and read. They know what is what. Move on please Joe. Thanks.
You have just been issued an infraction. I will be meeting with the mods. You have several in your account already I see.

I advise you to cease now! You've Been warned! Final!
      Excuse me?

Sending me a complaint via PM is hardly "meeting with the mods." And you are not empowered to issue those sorts of fiat directives. As for infractions, they mean very little. Which is good for you, given that you've got a couple of your own.

The fact that you started a thread doesn't confer any special authority on you within that thread, sir. Please keep that in mind.

        Paul,

We all know that you and I do not live next to each other. Meeting, Emailing, calling, Pm-ing is meeting with you. I did not just contact you either.

I really do not want to get into your PM's here.

You should be helping keep the topic on task and PM me. It is showing us that you are not living by what you have advised in the past. Please look above your last post. The guy above you. The buddy buddy thing is why so many do not come back here.

You should be deleting these kind of posts or Pming me. Not really sure what you are up to. I would not DARE to post some your PM's to me here.

        Please govern yourself as well.

No. I acknowledge who he is and Paul and I have had our times. He knows I am avail in PM and he also knows that I am a straight shooter. ( He should also know he is being asked, not told. ) Paul has been a viable resource here and has made it clear he will talk to me like all others and not play favorites. I have also made that VERY clear. Two way street. Everyone wants to be heard, validated, and concerns addressed. I think that has been more then achieved by now.

You know what I always thought about it the other way around.
The more advanced our technology becomes the better devices
We would have, hence the ability to connect free to the internet.

My brother just a few days ago mentioned to me about a device they sell
At wallmart that you can connect to your modem and get free internet access for life.
I forgot what its called, I believe he said it costs about $99.
I will be definitely looking into it and let others know when I have more info.

Your brother might be talking about the new wireless NetZero adapter (I think it was announced in March or something). The thing with that though is that you are limited to 4GB of data per month or something ridiculously small like that. Then you have to pay for more data. So not exactly free unless you plan to do some very limited surfing every month.

Look dude, you keep dragging this conversation back off topic. I thought for a second when you went back to the UN you got the hint; but apparently not. Instead, you go back to making an unfounded and frankly baseless claim. How is Luke's post "buddy-buddying" with anyone? It looks like it was merely poking fun at your attempt to be the moderator of your own thread. You see a connection because you want to. Luke and I (or anyone else in the thread for that matter) aren't PMing each other going "Hehehe let's bring Warrior2008 down."

And if you can point out how allowing this conversation to continue without deleting Joe's comments is in some way contradicting anything I've said in the past, I'd be interested to see it. Links to the originals, please.

I don't really think that it is a "war", or something that they are going into thinking "we need to win this and force extra charges on every single country with internet access." They can try, and maybe succeed. Who knows, they might coerce a few countries into adopting their ideas as well; but don't expect much outside of that.

Expect anything! This is why we all have to be living with some FWD thinking in our daily lives instead of some people sitting behind a monitor with a candy bar and soda pop. We all work hard and train hard around here. The dough boy syndrome seems to limit some people's abilities to think in a the REAL world in which we live.

Careful there, someone might think you are trying to goad another response with those "dough boy" comments. Just in case you are, make sure you direct that at someone who weighs over 170 pounds .

Anyways, I never said they absolutely won't succeed with whatever they tried. Reread the post and you will see that I imply that they might actually succeed. Rather, I understand that the UN doesn't really hold as much power to enforce whatever they agree on as you seem to think. Both history and current events back that up.

So maybe they will pass a resolution that makes us all pay more for our internet, and maybe it gets enforced. The safe money is on that not happening though.

Internet taxes are certainly a possibility, but the United Nations imposing these taxes on the world is far fetched. The United Nations holds no power and no authority over any nation. All of their votes must be ratified by each nation, as somebody else stated. All of their force actions are carried out by the troops of the nations of the world. Those troops do nothing, unless ordered to do so by their respective commander in chief. The same goes for sanctions and the like.

If the UN ever did get granted authority over sovereign nations, you would start to see revolutions like none before.

What basis do we have for this assumption though? I'd say the world population at large has proven more than willing to revolt when the opportunity presents itself. We are a war loving people like it or not, history proves that more often than it proves complacency.

Yes, this is how MOST people tend to think. Be challenged, lead, don't just follow the way others tend to think. Most have no idea where their lives are going to take them on a day to day basis. Always be vigilant in your fact finding too.

You can take it or leave it.

Taking your advice Suzanne... You know I RESPECT your opinions and advice.

Most of the other mods do not. Paul, man you are screwing yourself here and now. You need to quit being a sheep!

I have nothing to lose, this forum is getting really bad and the only time my pocket book gets hurt is spending the day here. I have the day off but this is not a place of income for me so sorry again, nothing to lose by here just keeping it real.

It's kinda like going to work knowing you have another job lined up and the slimy sales manager gets in your face. You hit him and walk away. You're in my face. Back up!
            Let's recap:

*You stated an outrageous premise as a thread topic and posted no proof, evidence, or any type of link to support your claim.
*You started telling people who was allowed to post, who was NOT allowed to post, and what people were allowed to post about in the thread.
*You started giving infractions to several members because you didn't like their posts, then sending them harassing PMs saying "You've been warned!"
*Even after Paul explained to you that you are not a moderator and do not get to control the tone of the conversation here, you continued to try and do so.
*You insulted the moderators here, specifically Paul.
            *You physically threatened Paul.

            Did I miss anything?

Several members here have spoken up and mentioned you aren't normally such an angry, rude, wannabe keyboard jockey, which is the only reason I can assume you still have an active account. Since you think this forum is so bad, maybe it's time you take an extended vacation.

No. I'm entitled to my opinion. As already mentioned by Paul in this thread, if you aren't a mod, you don't get to tell anyone what they can post.
Ever had a bad day or bad night? Everyone's entitled to one now and then.
Of course, we all have bad days. That doesn't mean anyone gets to start threatening people (especially physical threats as he posted above) just because he doesn't like the moderation policies of an internet forum. You don't get excused from threats of physical violence just because you woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
This isn't typical of Lance. I've known him for years.
I haven't. I would venture the vast majority of people who viewed this thread today haven't either. As such, we don't have to respond to his insults and threats like we're old buddies, although you are free to do so.

I think the point has been made by more than enough members here that his posts were insulting to forum members (not to mention Paul), but you are welcome to your perspective.

As for myself, I'm done with this joke of a thread. Have a great night Warriors!

        Paul,

I have a few Warriors that just told me that you have continued to ruin this forum. They have no respect for you anymore, nor do I. You got your ego bruised the other day when you Pmed me and you sounded DRUNK. I clearly told you to let me work and leave things alone. You could not.

Paul, you are acting like these other 20 some year kids here on this forum that barely have enough courage to sit behind their monitors.. Consider this YOUR warning!

We don't know whether you are on Drugs or are Drunk a lot. The PM I got from you was really disturbing. Yeah, we do hope others see this post and see where this forum is heading.

I hope it works for you Paul. If you want to put your T-shirt on and meet me, click the link blow and I would be happy to help clear your mind... we all would around this facility... Paul.

You obviously don't want to be a part of this community anymore. Kind of strange, because I can vaguely remember a time when you were actually likable.

I've also noticed that every word you have spoken to Paul seems to apply exactly to you. That's usually the case with anonymous users who make angry accusations to compensate for a lack of an intelligent counter-argument.

Sorry bro, but you've got no one to blame but yourself. You're the one who dragged this off-topic, and I get the feeling that was your intention to begin with, given the highly political nature of your thread topic.

Not sure what your problem is, but you obviously need some time out. As they say, you reap what you sow. Deal with it.

Warrior2008, I'm sure you have a few minions who follow you religiously, but seriously, Paul is not "ruining" this forum. You, on the other hand, have certainly done nothing to garner anyone's respect in this thread...

Let's look at the score card:

            Warrior2008: Total thanks: 87
            Paul Myers: Total thanks: 10,419

Yeah, no one likes anything Paul says. Can't imagine why Allen continues to allow him to be a moderator...

Warrior2008, as Joshua pointed out, YOU have been the one who keeps derailing your own thread with this nonsense. Your blatant Mod-bashing and condescending attitude have really gotten old. I, for one, have no control over the outcome, but I do hope you get a lengthy vacation after this incredible display of arrogance and really bad forum decorum.

He's still likable, most of the time. At the moment, he's angry about something. But he was angry before I corrected his impression that he had the authority to issue orders, so I'm not sure what's behind it.

As far as being anonymous... Nope. He's not. He's known to a lot of the members, and he's generally been a positive contributor over the years, which is why he didn't get nuked for the drugs comment. Everyone is allowed some room, based on their past behavior.

              Lance,
this is not a place of income for me so sorry again, nothing to lose by here just keeping it real.
Likewise. Not my business, and I am not an employee here. You seem to have a mistaken impression of how this forum works.

              Cali,

It's not unusual for people to disagree, and to think the difference between what they prefer and what actually happens will ruin the place. That's a common and understandable reaction.

We've been hearing that since the place had only a few hundred active members.

Paul, I totally understand that people disagree on here all the time and have absolutely no issue with that - it keeps things interesting and can be very beneficial to see other perspectives and viewpoints. But, that's not at all what I was referring to in my prior post.

IMO, he has been ridiculously disrespectful (particularly to you, but to others as well), and made some pretty serious and ugly accusations (e.g. saying you were drunk, on drugs, etc. when you allegedly sent him some pms). That, to me, is behavior that crosses a very serious line. But, that's just my opinion and I don't have any authority here.

I just hate to see this kind of behavior on this forum. Disagreeing is one thing; but he took this to a whole other level.

Yes, I will not be responding again tonight. Just for clarification, Cool Hand Luke is scared to death of the SEAL community. This is why he keeps going there. The fantasy's are still going wild in his head. That's OK, we see it ALL the time.

I was mearily asking Paul to hang out in the COLD surf with me for a cup of tea. Don't worry Luke, I deal with young boys like you all the time and it is all the same.

You may want to keep your fear factors in check. No one threatened anyone unless deep dark COLD water, or ruthless physical training does.

Luke, stick with your desk job.

honestly, this fellows continued nonsense and threats is something that does require moderation at this point.

I don't care how long a person has been around. Rule 1 is pretty darn clear. He has made threats to people other than Paul. If paul wants to put up with his sh*t that his business.

But Paul has a responsibilty to not allow guys like this to insult and threaten other members who don't have the ability to enforce the rules of this place.

I am all for giving someone some rope. But when you do and he wraps it around is own neck, thats on him.

He was warned multiple times to knock it off and kept at. Rule 1 is not left open for discussion for good reason.

    Rule #1

If you have a problem with another Warrior, a Guru, or God, take it up with them directly. Not here. No exceptions.

    @David Keith,

Nope, warning for posts, or pm's are NOT threats. Clicking the link below is not a threat. T-shirts and training... not threats. Training may seem scary to you David but it is over.

No one else has been advised only the ones in this thread per the above. PM's (excessive), and Thread posts.

Paul knows what he is reading and what he is doing. You jumped on a bit late.

It's been over for a while. Now, I am moving on to my evening.

Oh and I think "If you have a problem with another Warrior, a Guru, or God, take it up with them directly. Not here. No exceptions." has already been excersized already in other ways by many others then just me here today. My point earlier... EXACTLY!

If nothing else this thread has been interesting. Watching personalities go where we don't usually see them tread.

Unfortunately it all resulted in the topic getting relegated to the back burner.

But the whole thread was interesting.

This thread needs a change in conversation tone...

A priest was called away for an emergency. Not wanting to leave the confessional unattended, he called his rabbi friend from across the street and asked him to cover for him. The rabbi told him he wouldn't know what to say, but the priest told him to come on over and he'd stay with him for a little bit and show him what to do. The rabbi comes and he and the priest are in the confessional.

A few minutes later, a woman comes in and says, "Father forgive me for I have sinned."

The priest asks, "What did you do?"

The woman says, "I committed adultery."

    Priest, "How many times?"

    Woman, "Three times."

Priest, "Say two Hail Mary's, put $5 in the box and go and sin no more."

A few minutes later a man enters the confessional. He says, "Father forgive me for I have sinned."

    Priest, "What did you do?"

    Man, "I committed adultery."

    Priest, "How many times?"

    Man, "Three times."

Priest, "Say two Hail Mary's, put $5 in the box and go and sin no more."

The rabbi tells the priest that he thinks he's got it so the priest leaves.

A few minutes later another woman enters and says, "Father forgive me for I have sinned."

    Rabbi, "What did you do?"

    Woman, "I committed adultery."

    Rabbi, "How many times?"

    Woman, "Once."

Rabbi, "Go do it two more times. We have a special this week, three for $5."
