I'm a bit sketchy with Google Places. Could someone tell me what it is, is it similar to SEO?

Google places is essentially for businesses.

You know Google Maps? When you search for something i.e. a place, a hotel, dentist or other service based business or product company; you'll find them on Google Places.

It pinpoints where the businesses are located, provides details like website URL, address, phone number and so on.

Google places rank very well in the search engines when properly optimized. For example, I used to charge people $250-$500 to rank and optimize their Google Places listing.

If they're a dentist in Chicago - I would simply optimize their listing to rank for keywords like "chicago dentists" and so on. Then when people search for local dentists - they find my clients site and hopefully use them.

Google places is powerful and you can make a lot of money by providing Google Place optimization services. Not great for reviewing IM products or anything to do with info marketing/cpa etc.

As Jamie indicated, GP's are a free way for any business to list their details with Google. This includes their location, the area they serve, their opening hours, some images and videos etc.

Having a GP listing means that the business will show up in Google when people search and customers (who have a Google account) can independantly post reviews and feedback about that business.

This should be one of the first things any business sets up, even before they have a website. I have clients who've got thousands of dollars of business from their GP listing while we built their website.

Some people charge businesses to set this up for them but it's free to do, so if you need one don't pay, but when you've got used to how to effectively set one up, you can charge people who don't have the time or knowledge to do it for them.

    • Google Places is a digital version of the Yellow Pages. It allows businesses to set up an informative page about their products and services, staff, location, and working hours using videos, text, and images. Creating a listing is completely free and takes only a few minutes.

This is huge for local seo. When a user searches for something google places will show up 1-3 on page one with the closest companies that offer whatever your search is.

Yes it is very similar to "SEO". Instead of backlinks, Google uses citation sites to calculate the value of a listing. Of course don't forget the on page optimization of the local listing.

I created a very in depth video coaching course about it. If you would like, send me an IM and I will send you a 50% off coupon. Trust me, it's a pretty powerful coaching course all about Google Local AKA Google Maps, AKA Google Place....
