Optin video too overboard?

Hey guys,

Breaking into the newbie sex advice market geared toward ages 13-17, and filmed a ridiculous video for our optin page. Comedic and over the top, we wanted to do something that really leaves a mark, and is entertaining and enjoyable.

Untitled Document

Please check it out (2:30min long), and let me know your thoughts on the video and page. Want to know if it is too stupid and over the top for the market and age bracket. Just in test mode, and once TOC and privacy policy are up, am going to test with some ppc. Thought we would get the voice of the forum in on this one.

Mucho appreciated,

JD.

    JD,

I wouldn't watch that video again if you paid me, so please forgive me if I miss some details.

What the hell are you thinking? Sure it was over the top (but not funny) even for an adult... but you want to show this to kids as young as 13? Huh?

All I gathered from this video is a guy shaving another's guy's pubic hair, and then the guy shaving a woman's pubic hair... then the guys didn't know what a vagina looks like, until they shave the woman... What? I'm still shaking my head.... what the hell did I just watch??? Have a guy friend shave your pubic hair so your dong looks bigger? then shave a womans pubic hair so you can see what a vagina looks like? What? Is that the sex tip's you plan to sell to underage kids?

This is just wrong. Videos like this and topics that you are trying to sell usually have an "You must be 18 or older to view this content" disclaimer.

And you want to show this and give sex tips to 13 year olds?

What would parents think if they saw this type of thing targeted to their children? What would the parents that have laywers (or are lawyers themselves) think?

Yes, in my opinion, you are way over the top, but it's not funny to me.

Even in an adult context, I still did not find the humor in the video... it just seemed that you were trying too hard to be controversial.

lmao - I thought it was funny.

Maybe I just have a weird sense of humor?

I guess it really depends on the market you are trying to hit. If you are going for the younger market, it could be alright.

I thought it was really bad, but especially so if you are targeting kids. I think any sort of sexual advice or information that is for young people needs to have a more sensitive spirit, even if there is humor. And the overall underlying theme should be about health and self-respect. There was none of that in your video. I would definitely reconsider that one!

          Thanks guys!

Yeah, we have a more deranged sense of humor, and are playing around with incorporating it in our marketing. We don't try to cross the line, it is who we are, and this video was natural to us. Not even scripted for the most part, just kind of happened.

Some very valid points all around, and I especially LOVED Jared's response.
"What the hell did I just watch?". That.... was funny.

Thank you for the feedback and will take it all into consideration,

I couldn't sit through the whole thing. I had to fast forward. Way over the top and I didn't find it very funny. But hey I'm not your target audience I'm 40.

I do agree with Jared that sex advice tips and that video for 13-17 year old kids leaves me shaking my head. There is a paying market of 13-17 year olds in that niche? They won't be able to borrow mom/dads credit card for that stuff.

One technical thing...you say fill out the form and you point to the to the right but the form is right below the video.

I know Alan, thank you. The page will change drastically, but the video is what I am looking for opinions of. Thanks Alan.

    JD,

If I didn't read first that it was geared towards the 13-17 age group, I may have had a different view/initial reaction. If something like this was targeted to adults, I can certainly see the deranged humor in it.

I am still thinking "What the hell did I just watch?"... which could very well turn out to be a viral video... LOL

haha -- I didn't see that it was geared towards 13 year olds...

In that case, that was one of the raunchiest videos I have ever seen

      Hahaha...

We may have to change markets..

Maybe target the 40 year old virgins... Or maybe just mess around, and not sell anything. Just make these videos for fun, viral them, and build a branded show with characters and such.

I know it is retarded, but for some reason we love it. It juices us.

Just some brainstorming ideas... If I were you JD, I would submit your videos to:

CollegeHumor - Funny Pictures, Funny Videos, Funny Links!
    &
Break.com - Free videos, pictures, and comedy for guys

(and other vid sites similar to these... YT of course as well) which are more of the target age/audience that I think would work well for you.

Like you said... Mess around a bit, create a bunch of funny vids, create a brand for yourself, create some well known characters, and then you would be in perfect position to sell some related sex advice/tips/guides/products that follow the similar themes as your humorous videos.

Dude the vid was well done and the Sandler/Swardson vid is one of my favorites so I love the soundtrack. I'm far from the moral police but marketing sexual stuff to underagers is DUMB on so many levels. Yes they are doing "it" but you don't need to nor should WANT to profit off of them because they have access to cash and credit cards more now than ever.

Yes you want to be a pioneer but seriously Larry Flynt was a pioneer by pushing the bar of obscenity. He may have a ton of cash and some valid points but is being paralyzed most of your life really worth it?

At the end of the day it's all morals but you personally have to have your own lines and boundaries. A lot of moral issues have very gray areas but you are definitely pushing over that line by marketing to high schoolers. Market it to the college age crowd+ and it will do well and have others blessings like the others who have commented here.
