Anybody Ever Get Bored With Internet Marketing?

So a long story short-I started trying to make money online about 6-7 years ago. I started out full of enthusiasm.

I joined a network marketing company, got my company made website, and started driving leads through Adwords. I was ready to make my millions.

Even though I ultimately concluded network marketing wasn't for me (too high of a cost per lead and didn't like talking on the phone) I really enjoyed the camaraderie with everyone in the company. I also felt like I learned a lot (i.e. lead generation, over the phone selling techniques, etc).

I've since tried countless ways to make money online, with very limited success. That is completely my fault-I just haven't been dedicated.

Right now I'm starting an affiliate marketing blog (going to start at least 1 more shortly). I think my biggest strength is content writing. Since I know a lot about the topics I'm writing about, I figure it is my best chance of making good money online.

Here's the problem-it's BORING. After all, there is only so much you can write on the same topic.

I know it's important to rank for many different keywords. But after the first 5 blog posts, I'm finding myself largely rephrasing the same initial posts over and over in order to write new pages and rank for new terms.

Since there is only so much I can say on the same topic, I just keep regurgitating the same information in different ways. Needless to say, this gets very boring after awhile.

Do any of you ever find yourself getting bored with internet marketing? If so, how do you overcome it?

Even if I could eventually make 6 figures with blogging, I really want to feel like I'm growing as a person at the same time-not just doing the same thing over and over.

I'm thinking about branching out and maybe selling physical products on eBay, or learning copywriting. I just want to learn some new skills-not just do the same thing over and over. But even those things seem like they could get monotonous after awhile.

I think one of my main problems is that I hate sitting around. My current job involves a lot of physical activity, and I LOVE it.

Even though it's pretty much the same thing everyday, I really never get bored like I do with blogging. However, internet marketing involves just sitting at a desk all day. That is definitely part of the problem.

Any other ideas? How do others deal with boredom with marketing? Do you just "push through it"? Am I the only one who experiences this?

You could always try doing a joint venture with a friend or another Internet Marketer you have worked with and create something together so you can share tips and teach some of the stuff you have learned along the way - that way you will learn something new but also feel like you have helped somebody along the way also.

I think when you start to become more successful and your network grows you naturally make a transition from Internet Marketer into Business Owner as you become a boss and start to outsource some of the more monotonous parts of the job, slowly bringing in the right people to put together your "product". That's the part that keeps it interesting for me because it's much better to work for yourself than for somebody else - and you get to choose the people you work with. After all "The Art of good business is being a good middleman" - there's always room to improve and gaps/products in the market to find.
I'm promoting products I'm interested in-the problem is that I'm not using those products. I like your idea of learning within the niche and sharing what I'm learning-that could make things more interesting.

I understand what you are saying about outsourcing. However, as an affiliate marketing blogger, the only thing I could really outsource would be the content writing. That would leave me with pretty much nothing to do.

Josh, no offense intended and nothing personal, but if you think writing that kind of keyword focused article is boring, you should try reading them.

Seriously. Writing for search bots is tough because they have absolutely zero personality. People, on the other hand, do. Which makes it easier because people are the ones actually clicking the links and buying things.

So write for people. Entertain them. Challenge them. Ask them questions. Teach them things.

Turn yourself into the cool teacher whose class everyone wants to get into. Otherwise, you turn into a Ben Stein-like figure standing at the board chanting in a monotone "Bueller... Bueller... Bueller..."

I hear you. However, I do try to use personality in my writing, and the articles definitely aren't monotone.

It's just that eventually, I feel like I'm saying the same things over and over. Personality or no personality, there is only so much you can say about the same topic.

Maybe I could try reviewing different affiliate products? At least that would be different.

I think the boredom is more because you've yet to see a return for your efforts. If you were to wake up tomorrow to find that as a result of your affiliate articles you'd made $100 overnight I'm sure you'd quickly lose that boredom

Yeah, that would probably help too.

I totally get where you're coming from with staying active. I hate desk jobs. Try doing something local. Maybe offline marketing and helping local businesses grow their business online? Even if youre not interested in that maybe volunteer or do something to switch things up.

Great suggestions-I'm all for anything to get myself away from the desk. I could handle some desk work, but I need to find a way to break things up too.

You know what? If you will just forget about the keywords nonsense that is now on the way out and get with it on REALLY expressing YOUR voice, YOUR interests on the subject, and work on building a true AUTHORITY website instead of a garbage "seo friendly" website, you WILL get your mojo back and I bet you make more money and enjoy yourself much more as well.

A little tired from heart and bored. But anyway, I will not give up, at least, for the time being.

Keep in mind that blogging does not equal internet marketing...it is just one small part of the equation.

If you know the subject matter good enough, I think you will be able to write on more topics than you think you will be able to.

Themore you study a niche & write about it, the more you will be able to pick up on topics that someone who doesn't really know the niche will miss.

    Hi

One problem is you are thinking of Internet Marketing as "something you do" rather than "an extension of your business".

If you like to write find something you want to say (as opposed to something to write about) and write with the passion you need to say it.

If you prefer physical activty, start a business that allows you to do that and use your IM knowledge to drive customers and money.

As for writing, you could outsource it and then just tweak the articles instead of writing all of them.

Also, have you looked at "content curation"? It's a bit of a buzz word these days but an old technique. Find other content that interests you and add it to your blog with your comment/opinion.

I find that, like you, I hate creating my own content. I have tried outsourcing and am never satisfied with the results and to get good content would go over budget for the ROI on the blog.

I have started using curation and it is great- especially with some of the publishing tools out now.

But to combat my boredom and look at what I like to do- interact and help people- I am looking at more offline opportunities and am excited so far.

I too, sometimes.. that's why I watched a lot of Korean dramas to kill my boring moments... . But if you are thinking of making a living without a Boss, you should find a way to overcome this boredom..

Its helps to be in a niche and writing about something that you are passionate about.

It also helps to wake up and see money in your account that wasn't there the day before, things start to become much more exciting when you are being rewarded for your efforts.
