Hi All,
I have an online directory which features listings of general home contractors. In order for me to show a full working site I entered free listings by searching on Google general contractors and created listings from the original sites.

Can I do that? Can I create listing on my directory without asking the owner permission?

Yes of course... It'll not hurt their business, instead they could get free additional leads.

So, why didn't they want to?

If they offer their service to anyone then of course. Free publicity for them plus some extra links. I don't see why that should be a problem

As long as its not a cut and paste job. Re-listing entries, if they are only names, addresses, and/or contact telephone numbers, is fine.

The majority would surely be in Yellow Pages, or your equivalent.

Is it correct to do that as far as business? Is it beneficial to my site? Will it add if I have more clients like that?

Yup that should be fine, and could def help you out.

As long as the information isnt going to become detrimental to them you should be fine.
