SEO is more difficult that it used to be. My recommendation is learning how to get free traffic through content repurposing you can build a list, or just send the traffic to the sales page.

I would not list build if you are selling in a niche in which it would be difficult to have 4 different offers. For example, if you are selling how to help people's eyesight in one offer do you think they will buy 5 more info products that have affiliate products? Doubtful, and that being the case it's best to send it directly to the offer.

    YOU NEED BOTH lol

But my opinion a list is more important because a lot of times people don't buy the first time they visit your site. Capture the traffic and build trust with your email marketing efforts and they will buy whatever clickbank product it is.

It's not easy convincing someone outside the IM niche to see value in a pdf file.

Show them the value of the information, not how it's being delivered. A lot more people are understanding the value of Instant Delivery. At least everywhere I've been looking outside the IM space. It's all about how you approach it. Are you saying "hey here's this fancy cool PDF file" or are you saying "This complete course delivered INSTANTLY will really change your..."

It's all in the approach man... people are only going to believe the value as much as you do.

    AFFILIATES.... LIST BUILDING and AFFILIATES
    to be clear

But honestly, why are we putting one against the other? That's like saying which part of the car do you want, the body or the engine?

If you ask me there are far better things to be thinking about if you want to be productive...

I approached this subject, briefly, on another thread last week & I was told to focus on content & not SEO so much & the traffic will come. Google has finally figured out a way to decipher whether or not you are "speaking" naturally & their new algorithm (supposedly) punishes you for overdoing it in the optimization department. Not sure how true that is, but it's what my new to IM head read.

I was told to focus on list building so that is what I'm currently trying to learn. I also don't think there is one way to skin a cat so I have 3 sites running right now that have affiliate banners running on them for their particular niches. Those are sloppy & laid back on purpose. I am just going to focus on keeping those personal & add content to each of them about 3 times a week to keep them fresh & "SEO Friendly" I suppose.

I also have a dedicated site for one affiliate product that I am going to test out all of my new skills that I learn on, then I am going to rinse and repeat for other products on other sites. I may launch my own product as well...in fact, I may buy the domain for that tonight. Want to learn how to incorporate some YouTube reviews as well...have you thought about that yourself?

Its all a matter of what you got.

If your starting off there is great Warriors for hire that will blast profiles to help take over a ClickBank product launch brand for quick search results.

If you've got more game, then your building your own brand to work towards building a list so that you can just send an email blast from time to time to profit.

The point is that Mike said is that you should not put all your eggs into one basket.

What if you loose your search rankings.

Or you can't get your email list through for its getting blocked.

What if's are all around. But just do something and do it well.

I'd focus on building a list.

With that said, you should be focusing on content syndication in order to get free traffic from the search engines (if you are not going the paid traffic route).

In my opinion, content syndication via youtube, slideshare, etc. are great ways to drive targeted traffic to a squeeze page, and at that point you have a change to start building a list, where you can market to your leads as opposed to just random website visitors.

A much more powerful, scalable, safe, and sustainable business model in my opinion.

    hey artse,

I have 2 clickbank products outside the IM niche, one didn't make any sales at all. The other is doing ok, because now I have a system in place and I'm collecting emails and marketing to them in the emails.

If you ask me whatever way you're generating traffic to your website, (SEO,PPC,facebook etc) you need to be capturing those emails.

My niche has no membership sites or anything like that, (and I don't think i can possibly think of a backend product for this) so I wouldn't possibly be able to market to them long term with a list. The purpose of me collecting emails is simply build trust and slowly pitch the original offer in those emails.

But just as an advice, I would promote niches which have many products I could cross sell and a membership subscription would be great.

Kinda weird question I think, SEO and list building go together. If your bringing traffic in via your SEO methods then well hell you better be getting some of those people to opt into your list or your really loosing out.

List building is better because you get to sell to that buyer over and over again once you have built trust.

    Listbuilding is the better option.

    1. It's more reliable long term. You own the list forever.
    2. You can build a relationship with subscribers, building loyalty and with it your revenue.
    3. You are in total control of your list and what happens to it. With SEO, one Google update can damage everything.

Personally, I always focus on my email list. SEO is a third option for me.

    You should have both ideally

But if you had to choose between one or the other you should choose list building, once you've built your list it becomes forever, and you can mail and mail and mail.

But if you choose seo and you get slapped or sandboxed by google your top traffic getter is now in the gutter for weeks/months/ maybe forever.
