Everybody has their own ethical framework, in their personal as well as business life. It will vary, of course, from person to person and things that I think are highly immoral will be completely acceptable to someone else, and vice versa.

I'm interested in how warriors feel their ethics affect their online working. I've turned down a writing assignment because it went against everything I believe in. There are products and services I would never promote (debt collection, guns) and techniques I would never use (blog comment spamming).

Do you think that, like the 'corporate psychopath' stereotype, the most succesful businesses have very few ethics? There are companies whose ethical or green credentials are pretty much their usp, but could most or all other businesses commit to the same standards and still succeed? Do you sometimes compromise on your personal ethical standpoint to make your business work?

I've been mulling this over for a few days - would love to hear warriors' views.

I don't think that the most successful businesses are necessarily less ethical, although I may feel that way because I try not to equate "different ethics than mine" as "unethical" when I can help it. I do think everyone does it a bit, though.

For my personal business, there are things I won't touch because I don't think they offer value-payday loans, for instance.

I also wouldn't accept work as an outsourcer for those niches, although part of the reason would be quality. I don't think I could write a decent article, for example, about something that I personally felt was a bad product or service.

    Interesting topic.

The problem is that ethics don't pay the bills or put food on the table. Ethics are compromised all the time in business (and life in general), whether it be a small one-man band or huge plc.

I'm sure that most would agree that corners sometimes have to be cut, and online in particular makes it that much easier as there is no direct physical confrontation on discovery.

We all have a choice on our moral stance and ethical position in life. On a personal level I strive to maintain mine, but being honest there have been many instances where they have slipped . . . whether by accident or purposefully (possible duress). Can any of us say any different, with honesty?

I firmly believe that sticking to your ethics is beneficial not only to others, but also to yourself. It helps you eliminate distractions and focus on what you REALLY want to do, or should be doing. I've also not been able to do certain things because it violated my "code".

Unfortunately, most of those huge clickbank launches don't live behind the same ethics I do, or they would actually help people. I've bought my fair share of em', and 99.9% of the time, it's a bunch of garbage.

If more people had rules, IM would not have such a bad name

        My two cents.

The longer I live the more I see that everyone lie. And sometime they believe there lie is the truth.
But there seem to be more lie, fake in the internet biz than the offline. As a example I bought a WSO and the guy selling it was offering as a OTO all his sale letter and is page with all the revenue he made (the picture with all the sells he made, look nice). All I ad to do is ad my name & sell it as mine. Now I wonder if he did get it from someone else himself.
