For all you guys making money... how long did it take?

With services, I made money day one (although not a lot).

With product marketing, my first sale came a few weeks in.

Results vary greatly from person to person though. Make sure not to use someone else's experience as a measuring stick or to set expectations for yourself.

The good thing for you coming into this game now is the massive drive down in prices that leading marketers charge for their products. Quite literally products released this time last years that sold for $1000 are now given away with purchases for as little as $67 (sometimes even less). The warrior forum will be an absolute godsend for you in terms of getting answers to your questions.

As you are having some difficulty with website set up and so on, I strongly suggest you head over to chris farrell membership website (just google it) and sign up for his newsletter (free of charge) and in one of the first few emails you get through you get access to 26 video tutorials in the simplest possible format that even a monkey could do it - no offence to any monkeys currently here in the forum

A couple of the early videos cover website set up, squeeze page set up, mailing list configuration and integration.

Those things should already be in your business plan, before you start implementing the steps required to achieve your business goals. With this, I assume you're doing stat research at this point?

Once I got serious, it took me about 3 weeks to make my first sale (I chose affiliate marketing as my model).

I would say it took me around 8, maybe 10 months to start making consistent money online (enough to squeeze by on anyways).

That was about 4 years ago...and man have I learned a lot since then (tip: if you are focusing on affiliate marketing, or selling anything for that matter, focus on products/services where you can make a sale once and get paid month after month...such as a membership site, etc.)

I started selling items on ebay, which was pretty quick to start making money. Then I started with affiliate marketing that took a while to get the hang of, maybe 6 months.
I still do these two things, as well as network marketing, which is my goldmine, I started my travel business in December and had made $1000 in less than a week

To be blunt I wouldn't worry about making money until you really get some experience. That said it's pretty cheap to get experience. You have to start messing around. Getting familiar with what works, what doesn't.

Keep up what you're doing right now... getting involved in online conversations, reading etc.

Put making yourself a professional ahead of getting rich quick.

For me it was fairly quick. But I didn't start out as a complete "newbie". I had been doing MLM for a few years with mediocre success. Then I got an invite in the mail for one of those "internet marketing" seminars that were quite popular back in the late 90s. They'd teach you how to market online in exchange for you signing up to their hosting and merchant services.

Anyway, I took the course - then put my online projects on the back-burner for almost 2 whole years LOL! Then, when I realized that my hosting and merchant services "vouchers" were about to expire - I hurried to create my first website.

I bought a used book on HTML4; read it in a few days, and was off to the races. It took me a whole 30 days to hand code 3 web pages!

I did some quick keyword-stuffing SEO, uploaded my 3-page web site, and configured my corny 1-page shopping cart which was just an HTML table and waited. After about 2 weeks or so my first sales started trickling in... then they started pouring in and I was like holy #@! this stuff works!

Took me about 2 years. At the start, I literally kept jumping around and just this year, I finally stuck with one method that's earning me money.

Stop asking how long it takes to make money and start making it happen! Still trying to get it to where I am conducting internet marketing on a full time basis but it takes time. Devise an attack plan. Create a product that readers will find useful and make it no nonsense. People have to find value in what you offer.

You are doing good starting out on Wordpress. It took me 8 months to realize Wordpress was not the enemy but my savior.

It took me over a year before I started to make any decent money online, my main issues were that I was very green and I had some very low quality coaches (guys who didn't know what they were doing) wasting my time and money.

I also jumped from new thing to new thing (as newbie's do) with out sticking to one method long enough for it to be properly developed. This is a classic and crucial mistake. Often newbie's will try say affiliate marketing for example they might have some bad results then give up and say "it doesn't work" when in truth it does work, it just doesn't work for them because they have not yet committed themselves enough to perfect the skill. Instead they're already off on the next latest and greatest offer usually to repeat the whole cycle yet again.

Only when you slow down, break this pattern, stick at what your doing long enough to become good at it will you start to see results.

Took me a YEAR! Prior to that I didn't know how to make or host a wordpress website. I didn't even know what wordpress was.

It took me over a year, I was joking around for a while though. But once I got serious Iwas making money after about 1.5 months.

I made money the first month I started, but that's because I started offering a service. I started advertising web design services online and I got clients with my ads within the first month. In my opinion it's a lot quicker to make money by offering a service than a product. Of course I'm generalizing but it just makes sense if you want to make money quickly. Offering your services to do something others can't or don't have time to is easier than making a product and selling it. Note that I had been designing my own websites for a year prior to that so I knew how to make websites. Because I already had my product (so to speak) I was ready to go. All I needed to do then was advertise my services to people who needed it, because again, they didn't know how to or didn't have the time to learn how to.

If offering services, here's a tip to get clients quickly: offer it for free (or at the very least for cheap) then, to make money, offer them a couple add-ons. they're luckily to buy because of the good will you created when offering your services for free.

You just have to get over that initial learning curve. It almost makes your head spin on how many different ways there are to make money on the net. The key is to pick something that actually interests you. Its easier to write about and you'll most likely have knowledge on the products and why people buy them.

For me my initial money making came from selling electronic cigarette free trials lol. Got a review page to rank and float 1 - 5 for its key term and it made some good money around xmas.

It took me about 4 months before I actually started earning consistently. But once I did I was able to quit my job and go working full-time online.

I just made my first 2 sales on clickbank for the pass 2 months. And it feels really good. I am now taking it more serious than ever before

It took me well over 6months to start earning atleast 50/day but once I hit that the only way to go was up.!

I personally had success my first couple months and have been struggling to duplicate it. First two months I made about $600 with Clickbank, since then I'm making less than $100 per month. Been trying to focus on more consistent business models but still having difficulty.

I did my first adsense money in matter of minutes! That was a few dollars. But the big money rolled in after I Joined Vic and the GSC!

I think as soon as people really start taking action, they can make at least a little bit of money in a maximum of a few weeks.

I was once like the many others that just hang around WF and build on knowledge without ever putting it to good use. Then one day I decided to finally put my head down and give it a real go.

Once I did, after months of nothing, I made my first few dollars online

Luck definitely plays a good part in success. I'm very lucky to learn how to make money in the internet through my job.

It depends on the niche you are targetting. Some come quickly others come late. But i would rather prefer you run your online blog as a business that can survive for a very long time.

It wasn't that easy at first maybe because I started at the wrong side "paid to surf". The earnings were nothing to write home about.

I bit around the bush jumping from one business model to another for 4 goods years and not focusing. Today, things is pretty much better and each time I remember the past I just laugh, what a wonderful experience.
It showed me my strength as well as weak point and I have learnt that perseverance is the key to SUCCESS and not HARDWORK.
WF has also been helpful, glad I made it here on time too.

The quickest way I have found to make money is to find a big product launch using JV Notify Pro. Buy an exact match domain and build back links to it. If you can rank for a big launch then there is a lot of money to be made very quickly.

Try to assess yourself on to which skills or talents could you utilize to earn your first buck.

I am in the process of making my first earnings, I have not made any money yet. I am waiting for it to happen, fingers cross that it would happen soon.
At the moment, all I am doing is learning one traffic method tecnique to get me started. I have read that the best way to progress in this business is to stick to one method, master it, once you have mastered it, move on to the next traffic technique and so on.

I started in IM 15 years ago or so. I think I started with eBay so it was fairly quick. I've been with Amazon as an associate for quite some time now. It typically takes a new review site of mine a week or so to start ranking and earning. Once it starts ranking, new product reviews are typically indexed and ranked within 48 hours.

I guess I was pretty lucky. I made $3,000 in my first month of launching my product, even though it took me 3 months to get that thing released LOL

Aaahhhh, the ole good times when it was all so fresh... I gotta admin that I got more fun out of my business than I do today.

Took me 8 days to make my first $22 sale via article marketing.

The game has changed now though and article marketing rarely works now.

I think it depends on what type of site you have. I think the best means to make money online is a mixture of using affiliate programs, CPM and selling your own products, or what ever works best with your site subject. However, the key to making money is SEO. In order to make good money from all of the above you would probably need to aim for 3,000 page views per month which is not a lot in internet terms. But as I said before its down to SEO and site subject. If you make a generic site like computer help site or website design site SEO is pretty easy with the endless places to build up the SEO. However, if you do a more of a unique site, its far harder to find suitable places to gain backlinks and to build the SEO. Currently I have spent 3 months in designing and 1 month in SEO and still the site is a ghost town. I am sure the site numbers will pick up soon, the only problem is I can not add more content as I am spending all the time on SEO and money, time and energy is slowly dwindling. Anyway to cut a long story short, SEO = Site Visitors + Site Visitors = money, poor SEO = no visitors + no visitors = no money.

Took me over 2 months before i got my First check from clickbank. Once i saw that first check i worked really hard and focused on one skill at a time until i mastered them...

Life is much better now....

I made my first IM success ~ $500 ~ in one month's time.

If you manage to stay away from information overload, poor advice and the consequent haze, you are in the right direction.

When I started I had the technical knowledge, but absolutely zero internet marketing knowledge. I made my first sale (affiliate marketing) within the first couple of months, then was making regular sales after about 4-5 months.

It took me 3 years in total until I was earning enough to quit my day job and I've been working full time online for 5 years now.

There have been lots of ups and downs along the way. Persistence is one of the biggest assets you can have when you are trying to earn money online as a newbie. I have to laugh at some of the really dumb things that I did when I started, but sticking at it and learning from my mistakes really helped.

The other really important thing is diversity - don't rely one income from any one source, or traffic from any one place. I like to do a mixture of affiliate marketing, my own products and my own services.

it took me more than 2 years befor i started to make a dime online its because I kept reading and never took real action since about a few months back when I finally set my goals and took action.

I spent several hyper-focused hours and a few dollars initially to start selling one product/service online. I understood the market and just reverse engineered everything.

I'm averaging $20/month. This is pocket change, but it's just positive reinforcement that I can sell things online in which people want.

I also spent 20+ hours researching and getting information and more hours setting up another model, but I pretty much got slapped by my provider.

So yeah. It should be different as I get more involved with CPA's and other affiliate ventures.

Thank You to everyone whose responded to my question. After reading through every single response it seems that three things are certain..

1. There is NO way of estimating how much you'll actually make or when you'll make it, just based off of the varied responses from all of you.

2. It's good to keep educating yourself but ACTION is the only thing that will ever bring a nickel into your pocket.

3. Stay focused on ONE way of making cashola rather than jumping around...

I know # 3 is going to be the hardest for me because much like many of you.. i have the entrepreneurs curse. Haha every new possibility of making money online is THE way that I'm going to do it... until I find out about the next possibility.

BUT, I think i'm going to focus on building niche websites for the time being simply because I don't have a product to sell and from what i've read I can make some decent coin simply using adsense (along with possible e-books and other products)..

S0 my next question is how do you guys feel about niche sites these days? I've read so many mixed reviews saying penguin for the most has killed them.. and others saying you can still make a killing (with hard work obviously). What's the general Warrior opinion out there on these type of sites?

Yea I am just getting started also and learning seo I understand everything I have read but still having a hard time increasing my websites PR but hopefully I get better at this.

I started making sales the first week or 2, however I didn't really get "serous" for a few years after that. Hang in there. Start building your list... baby steps

It really isn't about how long it takes. It's how long it can last.

Try to make a quick buck and that's exactly what it will be; it will go as quickly as it came.

However, build a solid business over time and, while you won't be running to the bank next week you will still be visiting the bank when your quick-buck buddies are back at square one.

JimMichael is dead on. I would say if you are serious about making money online master a service as fast as possible or learn how you can be an assistant for someone already making $$$ and do that as an apprenticeship.

Also, paying for a mentorship is well worth it if the mentor is any good. Most people can make it almost instantly while others can struggle even with a bad mentor.

Any mentor I would trust has done paid advertising, knows or understand how to write copy, knows how to get affiliates, legit testimonials from people you can see are still in business, and guide you from your strengths, not in a cookie cutter approach.

If you have money my suggestion is to find a good mentor, or learn a service that is beneficial to many people and learn to work with them and earn as you learn.

Lastly, as Jim says, make a business that will last 5 years, not 5 months or worse 5 weeks.

I would suggest you focus on one thing to start and learn that until you make some $. Be patient and learn all you can, but don't get paralysis of analysis. In other words, find out what you need to do then take action. You can always redirect your efforts if you see things not working out. Don't expect it to be easy. It isn't, but it is possible.

It takes time and patience along with preservance. It took me 2 years to earn a solid income and not peanuts.
It was tough and dry but it was worth it in the end.

To jump start your learning curve, you could consider to buy an already established website (and profitable). You'll have to put some money but you will considerably reduce the time it takes to understand this business and also avoid all those "trial and errors" (aka spending money without results).

How much start up cap is needed to really get involved? Does it depend on the services used?

I am very techno-stupid.

I made money right off the bat from offering writing services, but it took longer to make the shift from trading hours for dollars and having a genuine business.

As far as the techy stuff goes - I have learned some of it, but most of it I either outsource or partner with someone who has techy skills.

WordPress can easily be mastered within 1 week, maybe 2 if you are not as tech-savvy. My first money site was done using FrontPage back in the day. That site took less than 1 week to start generating revenue.

I studied some wso's, took action, focused and made some money within 3 weeks of implementing those strategies. I will be honest with you that since then I just can't make a dime.

So many wso's have the missing piece missing that it's hard to make consistent income. I guess I have to follow the genuine gurus in here.

Learning and keeping up to date with any Google updates is very important.

All about creativity to keep it consistent. I rather have several online ventures bringing me in "some" kind of money stream rather than just 1 IMO.

So listen, remember that the internet is just another form of advertising. Internet marketing is just another avenue for you to sell things to MORE people.

Don't forget that. Internet marketing is not some push button cash generator. Anyone teaching you that is a bum.

The basis of all this internet marketing stuff is:

Traffic >> Converting Offer = $$$

It's just like any other business.

1) You have an offer (something to sell whether that be a service, an affiliate product, your own product)

2) You have a sales funnel created to sell the product

3) You drive traffic to that product a.k.a. you present your offer to more people.

SO...my best advice is this.

1) BEWARE of SEO (search engine optimization). I would treat SEO as a secondary way to generate traffic. I would NOT spend most of your time learning SEO and/or learning a business model that's based primarily on SEO.

An example of this would be Adsense. In my opinion, SEO is like "gaming" the system. Think about it, you're basically trying to "trick" Google into ranking your site higher.

But you're trying to game a billion dollar company who doesn't give a damn about you really. They'll release another update and not bat an eyelid as many people lose their rankings overnight.

2) Pick a market that's passionate and has tons of buyers and focus in that market.

3) Create a free gift that people in your chosen market would want

4) Create a squeeze page offering that free gift to people in exchange for their name and email

5) Followup via an email autoresponder series like Aweber. Give a good balance of relevant value and product promotions.

6) Drive traffic to your squeeze page. Use banner ads, Facebook ads, newsletter ads, Youtube videos (check my signature), guest blogging, etc.

That's the game plan

As for how long it took me to make money. It took me a few months or weeks I think? I was still in high school then so this stuff isn't rocket science.

One of the biggest thing is NOT getting stuck in the "always buying products and always chasing the next shiny thing syndrome".

The internet is really distracting so be aware of that and stick to the basics. I just gave you the gameplan =) Now go make it happen!

It doesn't matter how long it takes. When you think the statistics are that 95%+ of the over 313million in this country will retire DEAD BROKE you'll be hard pressed to find an entrepreneur - a true entrepreneur - getting attached to the outcome.

Once you detach from your outcome and put other people on your Team first, you get what you want. Zig said it the best.

What if it takes you a year? What if it takes you 3.5+ years? Do you give up?

I started being profitable in the first month but I had a good mentor to help me along. But it took me about 7 months before I was making enough to quit my day job and do IM full time. Granted, that was 7 years ago when things were a lot easier.

I made a lot of money on eBay a while back but now I am moving into the Internet Marketing I have taken coaching etc and now I am just starting out I understand that it could take a while to make money but I am fine with this as long as it does happen, in the long run I want to be able to quit my day job.

Usually it take not much time to setup a website. For a newbie of IM. It usually earn 1st dollar within 3 months time and start making profit within half year if success.
I also the one start with empty knowledge and i taking 5 months to learn everything and start look more into it .

If it were easy everyone and his brother would be doing this.

The first thing I ever sold was a website was like right away (I sold over 1000 in the years). With my first info product which was under 50 bucks it took less then a week and sold thousands of them to.

But the big lie is that there is no work even if you outsource YOU HAVE TO WORK AND BE FOCUSED and that's the problem!

Hi, it depends on how much money you want to earn.

If you want to earn quick and small amount of money, you can find some great niches, create articles with good contents, create a website and do SEO. You can sell it for hundred to thousand in Flippa if your website has reached certain value.

For example, I created my golf website with the abovementioned methods and I sold it for $1000 after 3 months (I could sell it at higher price since my website is on Google, yahoo, Bing first page for competitive keywords).

Do start small first. Once you get there, you can start to do bigger job.

Additional information for you, your website does not need to be very nice and beautifu. What you need is to optimize your website in a way that the search engines like it (this is what I mean for SEO). You wI'll get a huge amount of free traffic once your website is on top pages of search engines.

I quit my job because I hated it, and jumped into this full time. Do what's best for you..I like the pressure of being forced to perform and hit goals (my old job gave me room to focus on only this for a few months) Rule #1, write down your goals, financial..personal..whatever. Go after them..life is too short..

It's funny, because it depends too greatly on what product/program you are using. You should do some research on reviews before you dive in, and remember no matter what you choose hard work must be instituted.

It took me about 3 months once I found out about IM. But I had been studying business and entrepreneurship a ton beforehand so I had a leg up with that and marketing experience.

Yeah, we have all been in your position at some point. I believe we all start out thinking, "how fast can I make money?" That is probably the number one question most people have, until they spend some time actually working and realize how long it can actually take to achieve an income level that is sustainable.

It really depends on what your goals are. It is fairly easy to create a high-risk online income stream that can bring you anywhere from 1k to 5k per month. That might sound amazing to you, but high-risk income streams can dry up overnight. There are many more risk factors that come along with a high-risk income stream. So, technically, if you wanted to create a high-risk income stream you could be making money in a matter of weeks. You obviously wont see that money for a couple months because of the average time it takes for you to receive your payouts.

Using PPC, which I would't recommend for beginners, you could start making money in days. I will actually be releasing a video course in the near future that shows people step-by-step how to create a high-risk income stream to give you some cash to fund your much more sustainable projects.

To provide you with the most help possible, I want to recommend that you try not to think about Internet marketing as in "how fast can I make money", but "how can I start solving people's problems as soon as possible." I say that because with the right business model, you can help as many people as possible by providing quality, useful content, and get paid back in spades for your efforts.
