Google docs question...

Google docs says it is transferring it all to "DRIVE."
-- with 5gb free.

Here's my question -- how do I know if I already have more than 5gb in g-docs? and, if I DO have more than 5 gb? When they transfer my files over (automatically), and I have more than 5gb, *what happens to my "extra" docs?!?!*

PS: I'm scared!

I believe that there is a way to check your data in the settings

Previously, Google docs offered upgraded storage plans that you could pay for. So if you were paying you would probably know your storage amount. If not, Docs gave you 1GB for free

So, If you weren't paying for additional storage on Docs previously, the free 5GB version of Drive should hold all your data with at least 4GB to spare. If you were paying for additional storage in Google Docs, that same storage amount transferred over to Google Drive.

The storage plans were cheaper in Google Docs, and it was an annual payment. Now with Google Drive its a monthly amount that adds up to be more per year for the same storage amount.

Old storage plans vs. new storage plans

Drive is much better though. Previously to sync with your PC you needed a 3rd party program, and it was clunky at times, and didnt sync with your mobile device. Now with Google Drive, it syncs across many platforms.

I don't remember docs ever offering me paid storage (for docs). Could that mean I did not get the notification, and some of my docs were zapped when I didn't pay? I have HUNDREDS of docs in g-docs. How do I know how much space what I have is using? How can I tell if some were zapped when they offered the paid plan(s)??? Again, I don't like these "progress" type things -- usually means a LOSS in progress, really. (notice the "new" docs is a piece of crap compared to the "old" docs -- agree? -- no html editing, no preview button, much less versatility + functionality!)

UPDATE -- I looked, and yes, I think many, many old docs were zapped (based on date created, I think) -- gone forever. That's bad news -- but I guess the good news is I must have 1gb or less, so I won't lose any MORE docs in the DRIVE transfer. (((sigh)))

All the folders should get transferred. if anything your free storage space grew

I remember when my account first started migrating I got an invite a couple weeks before it went live, the files were sloppy for a while and I organized them a bit. But I didn't notice any lost files.

They wouldn't have offered additional storage to you by a promotion or anything. It was just an available upgrade in your account settings.

try this link to check your storage space used/available
      https://drive.google.com/settings?hl=en_US

the interface does take a little getting use to, but they were going for a clean look with lots of whitespace

Another thing: Make sure you are in the root folder of My Drive on the left menu. then scroll down to see if some files got transferred but may be out of their original folders you had them stored in before the migration.

Did you notice that g-docs app got a lot worse when it was "upgraded"?
Also, do you think I never did lose any of my docs (when the offer was made to pay for more storage (before DRIVE))? I looked, and I can't tell.

At some point I set it up with backupify -- so maybe that will have all the old docs??
    I'll check tomorrow.

there is only 5gb limit if you trying to upload more than the given limit google will discard your extra bit of data

      here check this link: https://www.google.com/settings/storage/

It should show what storage plan you currently have. If its showing a free account, then when you had all your files stored in Docs, it was also the free account. If you had paid for additional storage in g-docs previously, it will transfer that same paid storage plan over to google drive

Docs only use to give you 1GB free storage
Drive gives you 5GB free storage.

Your account will not get downgraded due to the conversion from docs to drive

If there are any files lost, it will not be because of a downgrade in your storage in this situation.

Not to make anything more confusing for you. But, are you looking at google drive in your web browser? or on the program installed on your computer?

One other thing: Have you checked your trash?

while logged into Google Drive, on the left menu, click on More, then click Trash. See if your lost files are in there

No need to fear friend. Google doesn't count documents created within google docs or drive. Storage limits only applies to uploaded data on Google Docs so you will be safe

I have seen that today. What exactly is the service? It seems like a copy of the dropbox or the skydrive service that we have seen lately.
