RESOLVED: I need advice on a matter...

I have a skill that is valuable to many here on the forum and I am sure could be put to good use. The problem is that it is a skill that is not allowed to be posted in any of the free forums and I do not have the funds to be able to pay Mr. Mount to post its availability in the proper place.

How do I advertise my skill without getting any further warnings?

Is there a Warrior out there who is willing to loan me the funds (by paying Mr. Mount themselves) and then I will repay with interest once the funds start coming in?

I have already received a warning and I do not wish to receive any more so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I even encourage Steve Mount to chime in with any suggestions he might have.

      Hi Cmdr

      I agree with Tina G!

If you have a "valuable skill" then you simply have to find a way to get the offer of that skill in front of the people who will buy that skill.

Once you work to get the $20 yourself, you'll enjoy the fruits of your labour all the more than asking for a loan here.

Tina's right, get it in your sig!

The cost of an ad is only $20, by the way. It really shouldn't be that difficult to figure out how to come up with that small of an amount.

Thanks Tina. I know this is going to sound bad but right now, everything I have coming in is going right back out to keep my head above water. If it was not for the food stamps and rent subsidy I would be homeless and hungry right now.

It is one of those things where that $20 might as well be $20 million for all I can do right now.

I understand where you're coming from with money - I have been in a similar spot myself in the past. I'll be really honest with you and say that you really should be focusing on getting a job right now so that you can take care of yourself.

You can work on building an online business in your off hours but you need an income right now and a job is the best way to get something coming in on a regular basis to ensure your survival.

Actually, what I am trying to market there, and I am lousy at doing sales copy, is an E-Book editing service. You see, I have over 7 years in the printing business so I know layout and design. I can help peoples e-books look so much better and thus, sell better too. Besides, if someone gives away an e-book and it is full of spelling errors, grammatical errors and things like this, then others are less likely to be interested in any other books you have to sell because your free one was so hard on the eyes.

That is what I was marketing and now, I just come right out and state what it is in my signature. I figure I might as well put those 2 Ohio Valley Printer Association awards to good use.

No offense Cmdr, but if you want to sell yourself here as an expert at editing and proofreading, you may want to make sure that your own posts have correct spelling, grammar and word usage. I don't think I want anyone to edit my writing who is not "aloud" to make posts.

Thanks Mark for catching that. I am battling a head cold today and so every 3 minutes I am having to stop and blow my nose. It makes me so aggravated that I can't think straight.

normaly, I don't accept arguements of "I can't afford the $20"... my first thoughts are usually: can you eat mac & cheese for a week? can you cut out the cigs? pack lunch instead of eating fast food? etc..

in your case, it seems legit.

I've never done much regarding article writing, etc, and haven't outsourced - but if you can write some articles for me, I'll pay you the $20 so you can post your service. I have no clue what the topic will be yet

I'll even toss in a domain/worpress install/hosting for you if you'd like, so you have something to link to in your sig, etc..

PM me if you are interested..

Thank you a thousand times over Jason. I have PMed you but I wanted to make it known that you are my new king. (not really but I figured it sounded good given the circumstances. LOL)

But seriously, I do appreciate this very much.

Jason, already PM'd you, it's people like you that make it possible for the hopeless to always have some iota of hope left. Well done.

Cmdr, ask and you shall receive, you did and you did, good on you for being humble enough, now I hope you go out there and turn your situation around.

        Best of luck and cheers,

        Kunle

A fellow Warrior who asked me not to give his/her name out told me of a free website that I can build my portfolio on and link it back here. I will grant you that it is not the best route to go but it is one that I can deal with for now and I can upgrade to a better site as the money starts flowing better.

I thanked them in a PM but I just want to make a public "Thank you" as well to them and to say Thanks and kudos to you all for all your help and support. This is what a community is supposed to be about and I just want to say that I do not think I could find this kind of support anywhere else but here. You have made me feel like there is still a little hope left for this world and that it is not too late.

Again, Thank you all. You are all in my heart and prayers forevermore.

The best thing to do is to post this in your signature file so that everytime you come here and post, people will be able to see it everytime.

    Does that make sense?

Yes it does Tal and when I get done building the site later today then I will put the link to it in my signature but I am not quite done with it yet.

        Nicely played...

That's a sincere compliment. You are in a tough spot, yet you didn't beg.

You found a way to explain your service, and you got at least one person to get you started.

You are taking the helping hand and expressing gratitude.

        I wish you well...

Thanks for that John. As far as showing the gratitude, I never could understand how someone could get help and then NOT say thank you. It just baffles me and I doubt that anyone will ever be able to explain that to me because it is so automatic with me.

you don't need a free service - I'm giving you your own website

I've been using an unlimited hosting account, but I'm setting up a reseller account, so you will have full control.. so go pick out a .com name

I am proud to say that I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Now all I have to do is watch out that the light I see is not a freight train barreling down on me. LOL

Looks like you're on your way. This was a very nice thread to read as a "welcome" to the forum.

A few words of advice. Your signature says "what" you do (e-book editing), but it does not talk about the specific benefits. No one cares that you edit e-books...what they care about is that you help them sell more e-books.

Until you have a stable business, you should offer to review all e-books for free and advise as to how much better you can make them and at what cost.

Something along the lines of, "Make more money with your e-books using my unique service. Free, no-hype, no-pressure review and consultation."

      Or something to that effect...

      Good luck.

Thanks for the tip there, VenetianPoker. I will keep that in mind when I get done putting my website together that will give all the benefits there.

It depends on the format you desire. I can take doc files and return pdfs or I can turn out ebk format as well, but that does not seem to be as popular. I can also rework pdfs if that is what you send me. I have the complete Adobe Creative Suites 2 package that includes Adobe Acrobat 8.0 so the choice is actually yours.
