You better to get the traffic using Adwords Display Network (the banner ads).

The benefit of Paid Traffic: you could get targeted traffic in just a few days and make sales in short time.

Just ask the Adwords Rep to make the ads campaign for you, so you could have ads that really convert into sales.

I would suggest to do good keyword research and rank your site for those keywords, that will give help you to get more free traffic from Google. But, SEO really takes time, but at the end results will be massive. For youtube as well as, you have to create as many as many videos and upload - You have to properly setup on-site youtube SEO too, to get ranks and more traffic.

Paid traffic is best for ecommerce sites imo. You can get cheap CPCs for individual products.

Have you tried googling for solo ads in your niche and capturing email addresses with an opt in box on your site?

This way you can build up a list of repeat visitors by emailing special offers, new products etc.

Do this and your traffic problems will eventually disappear.

  • Hi, when I was helping my mother with her gift shop, I remember I was using Adwords, and I did this until the prices were gone up. Then I focalized my attention on SEO, and now on social. It's difficult, especially for the competitors, but there is a good possibility to increase buyers thanks to these methods.

So try to optimize the website first, then send a press release with submission, and then 5 articles to ezine articles. Make a video, and if the shop is a live shop, make also a video of the shop. In a few time, if you continue with 1 article a week and some paid traffic by the other side, your orders will start to come.

See you soon and good luck

Large amounts of traffic are useless if they don't convert. You should focus more on getting traffic that converts. Doesn't matter if it's small. It's better to get 10 sales from 100 visitors than 1 sale from 10,000 visitors.

First step is to get your landing page right. Do your proper keyword research. Invest a little on Adwords and find out your top converting keywords. SEO your site proper. Quality content.

We ecommerce types don't want Rome. We want the gift shop in the Sistine Chapel.

The vast majority of traffic comes from the search engine especially Google. Seem to me you already know some of the top ways to get traffic to your site except if you want to look at the offline world or you are very fortunate to own a successful branded business/domain.

Below are some of the ways to get traffic to your e-commerce site:

    - Offline advertising since your site is an e-commerce site.
    - Organic search from SEO
    - Videos not necessarily YouTube, you can distribute your video to top sharing video sites like Metacafe, Netflix, Dailymotion, Hulu, Break and the likes.
    - PPC - adword and microsoft advertising
    - Press release like Prweb
    - Social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and so on..

Do some keyword research or hire a good keyword research guy and then set up some ads. PPC, banner ads or solo ads. See what your conversions are before you put all of the time or money into organic results. Know what your per click value is. Know what each lead costs. Know how much it costs to obtain a customer. Know what your conversion percentages are like to different traffic sources. The easiest and fastest way to find this info out is to send paid traffic to your site.
