Making an example of myself?

Hi everyone. Happy daddy's day. Recently I set up my own website to teach others internet marketing. I have been sending out an e-mail series on affiliate marketing to my list (like niche sites 101). I was thinking to use one of my own niche sites as an example for how to do it. Is there any reason why I shouldn't use one of my own sites as an example to my list subscribers? There are none that I can think of..I just thought I'd ask anyway though. Thanks!

    Probably the biggest reason is that folks don't do this more often is that they worry that others will "steal" their niche and copy. That's not an unreasonable concern.

    If you are going to do this... I would consider using an underperforming example. Be upfront with your members/subscribers so that they understand what you are doing and why.

      Of course, a workaround for this would be to just start a new site and build it using the techniques that she intends to teach. She doesn't risk her own niche sites and can prove that what she is teaching actually works by going from scratch.

        Yes that's also a good idea. It doesn't take much to start a website from scratch. Thanks!

        Another good reason to do things this way is to show that you are not "salting the mine." Just like the music business, it's quite possible for just about anybody to be a 'one-hit wonder' and never match the success again.

        In the IM world, one-hit wonders teaching their method after it stops working, and relying on the one hit for proof, is pretty common.

        Showing the process and results from scratch avoids that. You can gain 'honesty points' by pointing out that even if you do everything right, there's a slight possibility () that things may not work out exactly as it's a 'live fire' exercise.

          Exactly. I'm sure you could gain even more brownie points too if you show how to bounce back/fix things should they not work out.

    Hi Cybria,

    I suppose the minus point is do you want to show the niche (or one of them) you are working in?

    However in this day of "social marketing" then opening up and showing what you are doing and proof will in my view provide so many positives. I think it will create a number of referrals and therefore go viral in nature.

    I think it's a good idea. You will gain more respect than lose some. Also when your students see a live example they will learn faster.
