What is definition of unique content ?

I see duplicated content posted on daily basis on big sites like hufftington post , news sites and so on and they dont get penalized by Google?. What is the definition of unique content?

Can I republish an article , rewrite first and last paragraph of the article and get away with the duplicate content penalty?

What is the best tools to create unique content ...prefferably automated tool

    PS: There is no "automated" way to create unique content. Not quality stuff anyway. No shortcut. It requires work.

    Duplicate content applies to having the same content duplicated on the same website. Not the same content on different websites.

      Agree...OR you can outsource the work for freelancer to create an unique content for you.

      Unique content are either low quality or high quality. If you have an unique content it doesn't mean your content is in high quality. Actually it has nothing to do with quality.

      As long as your content are not copy from others, not a spin article, PLR, you can consider that is unique content.

    As Seb and Oliver explain above, you're confusing "duplicate content" and "syndicated content".

    You're also inventing a duplicate content penalty and referring to it as "the duplicate content penalty". Not only isn't there one, but Google states openly (in their WebMaster Central Blog and in a number of other places): "Duplicate content doesn't cause your site to be penalized" and "Duplicate content doesn't cause your site to be placed in the supplemental index".

      Hence the whole issue we have nowadays in IM and with the level of quality as a whole. Everyone thinks you can "spin" articles and literally "push a button" and that'll be enough to be considered... not only unique... but QUALITY sad really

    If you begin duplicating web content from other sites duplicate content filters will find by the search engines.

    That is a very interesting point.

    For me unique content means I wrote it myself (not spun) and out of my head!

    Huffingpost are doing what is called content curation. You use content written elsewhere put your own thoughs about it and give the original story credit by linking to it.
    This seems to be OK and google likes it! Strange isn't it.

    Many people say the best spinner is the best tool and they have just release 2.0 version which will spin at the press of a button. I did check it out but for me I found I still needed to rewrite it and therefore not better than what I already use for free (content professor). I think over time though that the best spinner 2.0 will get better as it continues to educate itself as people use it (content professor also does this though).

    Forget about duplicate content and go in for contents that you have personally written and it is of high quality. Use can also republish contents from other sites known as content curation but make sure you give credit to the original author.
